The China Model Unravels in Shanghai At the end of the Cold War, the end-of-history theory was that every country in the world that desired prosperity and progress would necessarily have to embrace both economic liberty and political democracy. You cannot have one without the other, the theory went. It was inevitable. The world waited for China to go the direction of Eastern Europe and so many other countries. It did not happen. Despite liberalizing economic reforms, the CCP maintained hard-core political control for the decades following. Yet its economy grew and grew. This gave rise to a new theory:...

A University of Buffalo student said she was 'hunted down' by a woke mob screaming 'no justice, no peace,' after she invited prominent black Republican Lt. Col. Allen West to speak on how he overcame racism. But protests erupted after the filled-to-capacity event, leading to an angry mob that chased Purcell, leaving her afraid of what would have happened if she wasn't able to hide from them. Purcell said she heard the angry crown screaming, 'go get her, go get her, go capture her, the girl in the red dress.'

An IS fanatic has been found guilty of murdering Sir David Amess MP. The Southend West MP was stabbed more than 20 times during a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex on 15 October 2021. A jury at the Old Bailey took just 18 minutes to convict Ali Harbi Ali of murder and preparing acts of terrorism. The 26-year-old from Kentish Town, north London, had denied the charges and claimed he targeted the MP over his vote for airstrikes on Syria. Sir David's family sat in court just a short distance from Ali as the verdicts were delivered. The judge, Mr...

John O. Brennan, the former CIA director whose security clearance was revoked by President Donald Trump, has joined the WestExec Advisors, a “secretive consulting firm” whose alumni hold posts throughout President Joe Biden’s administration. Politico noted: “WestExec is loaded with other former top Democratic national security and foreign policy officials who raised money for the Biden campaign, have joined his transition team, or...

One day, we will learn the extent of the malicious war that was waged by politicians and Big Pharma against COVID treatments. But if the newest study on proxalutamide in COVID patients reflects reality, you can add one more drug to the list of treatments that could have saved countless lives but which were purposefully stifled to please the gods of lockdowns, panic, and experimental injections. Last week, Kintor Pharmaceuticals announced the results of a randomized controlled trial of the use of anti-androgen proxalutamide, a prostate cancer drug, in mild to moderate COVID patients. It found that among the 721...

On April 8, more than 34 tons of humanitarian aid — primarily medicines, first aid kits, and food — arrived in western Ukraine’s Zakarpatska region, also referred to as Transcarpathia, from Uzbekistan. The aid from Uzbekistan joins a flow of assistance funneled into Ukraine from a number of humanitarian aid hubs established by the European Union in countries on Ukraine’s western frontier. The head of the Zakarpatska region, Viktor Mikita, thanked the Uzbek government and the Ukrainian ambassador in Tashkent, Mykola Doroshenko, for making the aid possible. Doroshenko became ambassador in Uzbekistan in 2020, after serving as ambassador to Kyrgyzstan....

The war in Ukraine has caused many Mongolians to fear the consequences of the existing historic and economic ties between Russia and their country ...Mongolia is still in Russian-language contexts referred to as the ‘sixteenth Republic’ (of the former USSR) causing many in the country to identify with the Ukrainian commitment to independence from Russia. As evidenced by the ‘sixteenth Republic’ label this independence is still all too often not recognised by Russian counterparts, with whom Mongolian and Ukrainians’ history, social networks, and critical physical infrastructures are deeply entangled. Since the first democratic elections following a student-led Democratic Revolution in...

Election integrity was the clear winner of the Colorado Republican Party’s Assembly and Convention this weekend, while Kristi Burton Brown’s establishment had their delusions of “normal” shattered in spectacular fashion. The State event was held Friday at the Hilton Doubletree and Saturday at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs and, based on this year’s local caucuses and assemblies I expected to see drama. I wasn’t disappointed. Friday began early with delegates arriving prior to 7am to obtain credentials and vote for their preferred candidates in the Congressional District assemblies. Lauren Boebert swept CD3, which was not surprising given that...

A parking lot of vessels are waiting outside China’s largest ports as the country experiences the biggest COVID-19 outbreak in two years continues to spread amid extended lockdowns in Shanghai. Vessels carrying raw materials have increased over the last month as Shanghai’s 25 million people have been placed on lockdown, as new daily infections jumped to 26,000 on Sunday. The lockdown has shuttered factories, disrupted logistical networks, and reduced operational capacity at ports. Shipping data via Bloomberg shows 222 bulk carriers waiting off Shanghai, China’s biggest port, 15% higher than a month ago. At the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, there were...

My organization recently sent out an email announcing its annual “Men’s Forum” and I immediately felt icky about it. To me, it feels different than a women’s forum or an ERG for minorities because it focuses on a group that, historically, is not marginalized. For context, I work in finance which has a history of “the good old boys club.” The email even mentions “men and their allies” which also feels wrong to me. Ick, yes. What is the event’s mission? Unless it’s to be an ally to women and other marginalized groups in your field or office, what exactly...

Are COVID-19-linked arrhythmias caused by viral damage to the heart’s pacemaker cells? The SARS-CoV-2 virus can infect specialized pacemaker cells that maintain the heart’s rhythmic beat, setting off a self-destruction process within the cells, according to a preclinical study co-led by researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian and NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The findings offer a possible explanation for the heart arrhythmias that are commonly observed in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection. In the study, reported on March 8, 2022, in Circulation Research, the researchers used an animal model as well as human stem cell-derived pacemaker cells to show that...

(CNN)Philadelphia will reinstate its indoor mask mandate as of Monday, April 18, as cases in the city quickly rise, the city's Public Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole announced Monday. Their decision comes after a slew of states and major cities dropped their masking requirements as cases began trending downward in January. On March 25, Hawaii became the last state to drop its mandate. The city will move to its second level of Covid-19 restrictions, which requires Philadelphians to wear masks in indoor public places. President Joe Biden's newly-appointed COVID-19 czar Dr. Ashish Jha acknowledged extending the federal mask mandate on public transportation is 'on the table' on Monday. The nationwide pandemic-era health rule is set to expire on April 18. The newly-minted Biden official's caution comes despite the White House pivoting to a more adaptive approach on the pandemic, encouraging Americans to assess their 'individual risks' and readying to drop the Trump-era Title 42 expulsion policy. Bipartisan lawmakers have stood up to oppose the Biden administration lifting the policy on May 23, which allows border agents to turn asylum-seekers away regardless of their status...
