A former FBI agent has admitted to entering false evidence in an investigation into a Republican leader, but despite this admission in court, his punishment was quickly waived. Only a day before jury selection was to begin in a case to prosecute him for lying in his investigation into a sexual misconduct charge against then-Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, former FBI agent William Tisaby pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of evidence tampering on Wednesday, The Associated Press reported. Unlike what would happen for anyone else, the court quickly sentenced Tisaby to probation — and then immediately turned around and suspended...

COVID-19 spreads primarily through aerosols, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) said in a blog post Wednesday that puts it at odds with the CDC, according to a research center run by President Biden's former COVID advisor Michael Osterholm. The University of Minnesota's Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) said the White House was "years" behind some experts worldwide in recognizing the primacy of aerosol transmission. "It's worth noting there is no mention of droplets in the blog post," George Washington University public health epidemiologist David Michaels told CIDRAP. The CDC maintains that "respiratory...

We do not know where the Russia/ Ukraine conflict is heading in Eastern Europe. In a worst-case scenario, Russia will try to seize much of its old territory. The Baltics are in the bear’s sites, as well as Poland, Romania, and Hungary. And while Ukraine has fought the good fight and, she cannot overpower Putin’s military. The conflict could also abruptly end before this periodical hits your mailbox. Russia is paying an economic price that is staggering. But most analysts feel Russia will do to Ukraine what they did to Aleppo, Syria: Virtually wipe her off the map. The Bear...

The worldwide toll of deaths from Covid-19 has just hit 6 million, nearly 1 million of which are in the United States. Few science stories are more important than understanding where the Covid virus came from. Yet the science writers’ section of the press corps has proved strangely incapable of telling the story straight. Two hypotheses have long been on the table. One is that the virus jumped naturally from some animal host, as many epidemics have done in the past. The other is that it escaped from a lab in Wuhan, where researchers are known to have been genetically...

A Statement on the Sanctity of Life Orthodox Pro-Life Statement The Orthodox Church has consistently and unequivocally recognized the full humanity of every person beginning at the moment of conception. The Orthodox Church is, and always has been, unabashedly pro-life, regarding abortion as the killing of another human being. In recent weeks, this position has been called into question, and, consequently, we, Orthodox Presiding Hierarchs representing several canonical jurisdictions in the United...

President Biden has good intentions on climate change. His plan to halve carbon emissions by 2030 is on the scale energy and climate experts say is necessary to prevent the worst damage a warming planet could cause. He favors aggression action without the massive overshoot far-left schemes such as the “Green New Deal” would entail. That fits with his desire to make big changes that have at least some bipartisan support and can survive political turnover in Washington.Yet Biden now finds himself snared in an energy trap he constructed himself. He has lobbied for the phase-out of fossil fuels that...

Though it’s recently become trendy, cocktails like the old fashioned, martini and daiquiri have been classics for a long time. These cocktails come with specific flavor expectations. An old fashioned, for example, is expected to have smoky flavor notes with a sweet finish from the sugar at the bottom, and sours are, well, you get it from the name. A few bars in Charleston use the flavor profiles of these tried and true cocktails as inspiration for creating their menus, but use local ingredients or flavored spirits to put their own twists on the classics. What follows are a few...

A study found half of all women will experience at least one false positive mammogram over a decade of annual breast cancer screening with digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography). The risk of false positive results after 10 years of screening is lower in women screened every other year. A false positive is when a mammogram is flagged as abnormal, but there is no cancer in the breast. It also showed that repeated screening with 3D mammography only modestly decreases the chance of having a false positive result compared with the standard digital 2D mammography. Other factors more strongly linked to...
