A man from Yonkers was arrested and charged with two felony hate crimes after a brutal attack on a 67-year-old Asian woman, police said Monday. Tammel Esco, 42, was arrested and charged with attempted murder as a hate crime, a Class B Violent Felony in the New York State Penal Law, and assault as a hate crime, a Class D Violent Felony on Friday. Wholesale inflation in the United States shot up 10% last month from a year earlier — another sign that inflationary pressures remain intense at all levels of the economy. The Labor Department said Tuesday that its producer price index — which tracks inflation before it hits consumers — rose 0.8% from January. The increases were in line with economists’ forecasts.
