Senate Minority Whip John Thune said this week that Republicans "welcome" former President Donald Trump's help in taking back the Senate majority, but repeating his false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen "takes our eyes off the ultimate prize." "President Trump still has a tremendous following among our supporters across the country and, you know, exercises that influence, or at least attempts to, on a daily basis," Thune, R-S.D., told Fox News. "But I think ultimately for us as Republican senators our job right now is to try to get the majority back in 2022 and provide that...

On a Thursday Zoom call with progressive activists, Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said the upcoming hearings by the Jan. 6 select committee probing the riot at the U.S. Capitol staged by supporters of former President Donald Trump will “blow the roof off the House.” “We are going to do everything we can to subpoena all the information we need and to enforce our subpoenas. But even if we don’t get every last person in there, we are going to have hearings that I believe will be compared to the Watergate hearings, because they are going to blow the roof off...

How bad are things for Joe Biden? On top of the latest poll showing him with a minuscule 33% approval rating, here comes a certified member of the liberal media noting the similarities between Biden's presidency and that of Jimmy Carter. On Friday's Morning Joe, Ed Luce was invited to discuss his current Financial Times column, "America's Nagging Echoes of the 1970s." Luce saw parallels in terms of inflation, crime on the rise, and threats from Moscow. But the most dread similarity he drew was: "The sense of drift, the general sense of drift. The sense we have a president that...

Inflation is burning out of control. While home price growth has been off the cherts (as Jean-Ralphio would say), commercial real estate has jumped incredibly at 22% YoY. The Bloomberg charting function hasn’t updated for the Q4 NCREIF report yet so I had to manually write-in 22% on the following chart. To quote Dean Martin, “Ain’t that a kick in the head.” Commercial real estate returns are now higher than house price growth. So, what will happen IF The Fed follows through with its monetary stimulus reduction? JPMC’s Jaime Dimon warns that The Fed could hike 7 times in 2022...

Can we chat?Jimmy Carter invented the Misery Index – the combined unemployment rate plus inflation rate – in order to flog his 1976 opponent, Jerry Ford, about the head. As most often happens with Democrats, his own policies led to even more misery and he ended up beating Ford’s misery score by a full 2 percentage points, topping the misery index at 22%.Now cometh Joe Biden with his bag of magic beans. So far his official score is 10.9%. At the time he took the reins, so to speak, the misery index was under 7% and unemployment was on the...

Since the Capitol insurrection, Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson has repeatedly interviewed Thomas Caldwell, who was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday on charges of seditious conspiracy for his role in coordinating the Oath Keepers' attack, Media Matters reported. Caldwell first joined "Tucker Carlson Tonight" in October 2021. During his appearance, he said he never entered the Capitol and was not part of the Oath Keepers, a far-right, anti-government paramilitary organization, according to Media Matters.

While most can understand why a homeowner would return fire after a group of masked young men shot at him, relatives of the boys were quick to come forward to say “these little teens” didn’t deserve it.

Further to the state of our world as discussed with David Starkey and Douglas Murray on the Friday Mark Steyn Show, here is a rather too obvious bit of symbolism. A decade ago - January 13th 2012 - the cruise ship Costa Concordia sank off the coast of Tuscany. As you can read below, Abe Greenwald more or less taunted me that I would be unable to resist the awesome metaphorical power, and so I rose to the occasion. I think the column holds up pretty well, especially the latter half on manhood and manly virtues, both of which are...

For several years now, advocates of “decarbonizing” our energy system, along with promoters of wind and solar energy, have claimed that the cost of electricity from the wind and sun was dropping rapidly and either already was, or soon would be, less than the cost of generating the same electricity from fossil fuels. These claims are generally based on a metric called the “Levelized Cost of Energy,” which is designed to seem sophisticated to the uninitiated, but in the real world is completely misleading because it omits the largest costs of a system where most generation comes from intermittent sources....

The remarkable aspect to this announcement is the openness of DirecTV’s admission. Following on the heels of the demand from the White House to start blocking content against the interests of the Biden administration, DirecTV the satellite television communication company now part of the AT&T network, has announced their decision to drop the One America News Network (OANN) channel because OAN is perceived to be supportive of Donald Trump. (Bloomberg) – DirecTV, one of the largest U.S. pay-TV providers, plans to drop One America News Network, dealing a major blow to the conservative channel that’s been criticized for spreading misinformation...
