Maybe it took this long to decrypt the messages he was sending and receiving? Or maybe they never have decrypted them, and they want to hurry up with the kangaroo court. It’s not like they need real evidence to prosecute.
Once they have their iunsurrectionist they can do the usual tactics of declaring a target to be associated with the insurrection and therefore not eligible to serve in Congress. That may shave off a few Republicans in the next Congress.

Unknown to me, prior to the interview, the Oathkeepers arose out of discussions here on Free Republic that concerned former military, law enforcement and others who had sworn an oath to the constitution would not live up to their obligations if need be. It was not mentioned specifically that Mr Shirley was a Freeper but that was the impression I got. He also related that he had been involved with Oathkeepers since it’s founding but had never heard of Ray Epps before January 6th.
During the interview, Alex mentioned the possibility that, rather than being a Fed, Ray Epps might have been in DC on Jan 6th working for the SPLC. Plausible deniability, anyone?

They need to get them into the system ASAP, before Republicans take control of the house and senate and start doing REAL investigation into what happened on January 6th.
Once they are defendants, they will not be available for congressional testimony.
