...In his memo, Mr. Schumer said that the two primary Democratic bills—“The Freedom to Vote Act” and a separate measure named for the late civil-rights leader Rep. John Lewis —would be combined into a single measure and routed through the House in a procedural maneuver. He didn’t set dates for the votes, but an aide said they would happen in coming days. Under congressional procedures, a bill that has been amended in the House and sent back to the Senate is known as a “message.” It enjoys a privileged status in that the Senate can’t debate whether to proceed to...

Joe Biden is a chameleon who, even when he was in possession of his faculties, probably didn’t believe in much of anything. Now, going with the flow, he has become a “woke” warrior who tries to portray himself as a civil rights activist, which he never was. Biden has repeatedly claimed in speeches to have been arrested in the cause of civil rights, once supposedly when he was trying to visit Nelson Mandela–a complete fantasy. But that’s not all: in his speech yesterday in Atlanta, he not only launched absurd smears against Republicans, he portrayed himself as an activist who...

CNN anchor Jake Tapper said Wednesday on his show “The Lead” that members of Congress forwarding a “fringe conspiracy theory” about a man named Ray Epps, were not members of the high IQ society, Mensa International. Tapper said, “This is a fringe conspiracy theory, but I have to ask you because it’s showing up at congressional hearings raised by House and Senate Republicans. An Arizona man, Ray Epps, has become a target of what appears to be a completely baseless right-wing conspiracy theory that he was an undercover FBI agent or informant or operative at the Capitol on January 6...

In December, while the world’s attention was on the emergence of the omicron coronavirus variant, the German Institute for Economic Research revived a centuries-old idea to help tackle wealth inequality. Universal Basic Inheritance, or Grunderbe in German, would assign €20,000 ($22,720) to each resident upon reaching 18 years of age. The sum would be earmarked to pay for education or training, a property downpayment or for starting a business — not to be squandered. The idea is in a similar vein to the Universal Basic Income, a welfare replacement scheme being trialed by governments around the world, which awards people...

U.S.—Supermarkets nationwide are no longer selling chicken noodle soup in an attempt to combat COVID-19 self-medication with unauthorized treatments. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed a mandate to limit chicken noodle soup was recommended by the CDC. “As in the case of Ivermectin, a known horse de-wormer, many people were attempting to self-medicate with a hot bowl of soup. This is giving people a false sense of security and leading to violent overdoses in which belching and nausea...
