97.1% of over 70s not in care homes survive. Top epidemiologist Professor John Ioannidis has published a new study which concludes that the survival rate of people under the age of 20 who catch COVID is 99.9987%. The data used from the study was taken before the advent of mass vaccination programs, meaning the numbers apply to unvaccinated people. Ioannidis previously published an analysis of seroprevalence (antibody) studies from 2020, which resulted in him being able to reveal that the infection fatality rate for COVID globally was around 0.15%. In Europe, the number stood at 0.3%-0.4% , while in Africa...

There are those who see behind the closure a sinister Russian plot, Mrs. Merkel—they say—having long been a Russian agent (she grew up in the German Democratic Republic, was a prominent member of the communist youth movement, and learned fluent Russian). The less power Germany generates for itself, the more dependent it becomes on Russia. But this hypothesis is redundant: All that was required for such a decision to have been made was a homegrown militantly self-righteous movement of spoiled brats who have never known hardship, irrespective of the recent history of their country. The decision to close the power...

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Monday that he had caught Covid-19 for a second time and was experiencing mild symptoms. Hours earlier the 68-year-old, who rarely wears a face mask, had appeared at his daily news conference speaking with a hoarse voice. He said he planned to get tested for Covid-19 but believed he had the flu. Lopez Obrador overcame a first bout of Covid-19 in early 2021. He has received the AstraZeneca vaccine including a booster on December 7.

Starbucks customers arriving to claim their mobile drink orders have found cafes shut, and delivery drivers are waiting longer to pick up some McDonald's Big Macs. Service at U.S. restaurants has slowed as Omicron, the latest COVID-19 variant, sickens workers and scares off others, leaving many businesses without enough staff. Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O) customers complained on Twitter last week about temporary closures and reduced hours at locations around the country, including in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, California, New Jersey, Florida and New York. Lawyer William Clarke told Reuters he placed a mobile order for coffee at a Starbucks in Hoboken, New...

New major COVID-19 variants will emerge if people don’t get vaccinated against the coronavirus, experts recently told CNBC. “Until the whole world is vaccinated, not just rich Western countries, I think we are going to remain in danger of new variants coming along and some of those could be more virulent than omicron,” Dr. Andrew Freedman, an academic in infectious diseases at Cardiff University Medical School, told CNBC. Freedman said viruses “tend to become milder” with time, but that “isn’t always the case.” “It may well be with future variants that they are even more contagious, they may be milder,...

Crows are even more surprisingly smart than we thought. But do they have true consciousness? Research shows that crows and other corvids “know what they know and can ponder the content of their own minds,” according to STAT. This is considered a cornerstone of self-awareness and shared by just a handful of animal species besides humans. In new research published in Science, German scientists put crows through a series of puzzling tasks. During those tasks, the scientists measured neural activity in different kinds of neurons with the goal of tracking how crows were sensing and reasoning through their work. They...

New York (Reuters)-The U.S. government is prepared to dismiss two perjury charges against Ghislaine Maxwell if her conviction for aiding Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuses is allowed to stand, according to a joint letter from prosecutors and Maxwell's defense team. In a Monday night letter to U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan, prosecutors said dismissing the perjury counts would reflect the victims "significant interests in bringing closure to this matter and avoiding the trauma of testifying again." Prosecutors also asked the Manhattan judge to sentence Maxwell in about three to four months. Lawyers for Maxwell oppose setting any timetable, believing that one...

Deaths from COVID-19 are overwhelmingly concentrated among the elderly, and thus it would seem obvious that vaccinating older Americans should be a top priority. Yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released guidance suggesting that millions of essential workers should receive the vaccine before many people 65 and older. Part of the reason for this, according to a CDC report, is to mitigate and racial and ethnic "health inequities." Older Americans are disproportionately white, whereas the essential worker category includes a larger percentage of racial minorities and low-income people

Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell, beat cops with a combined 28 years on the job, were found through a 2017 investigation to have ignored a commanding officer’s request for assistance in handling an in-progress robbery at a nearby Macy’s. Rather than respond, the two left the area in the hopes of capturing Snorlaxes and Togetics in Pokémon Go. This decision, caught by the digital in-car video system (DICVS) dash cam, as well as attempts to lie about their actions, ultimately led to the officers’ firing from the LAPD. Reps for Lozano and Mitchell subsequently filed a petition seeking to appeal...

THE West must "prepare for the worst" as conflict with Russia looms, the Defence Secretary gravely warned tonight. Russia has told the US to back off over mounting tensions with Ukraine or "endanger not only its own security but that of Europe" as World War Three fears mount. And in his darkest intervention yet as tensions rise in Eastern Europe, Ben Wallace vowed that Britain would "stand up to bullies" amid fears of a Russian invasion into Ukraine. Mr Wallace said distance should "not deter Britain" from seeking to "defend those who cannot defend themselves" as the West confronts Russia...

Looks like the Chit Chat option is gone. Recently had a sump pump installed after the pit filled with water after a heavy downpour. While I think the pump usage will be low, I'm concerned with being without power during a rainstorm (took several hours to fill pit). With a finished basement, I'd rather invest in some preventative measures. Looked into whole house generators but you're looking at around $10-20k for the luxury of it kicking in when the power goes out. Looked into maybe having a transfer switch installed and getting a portable generator but if I'm not home...

The hashtag #BareShelvesBiden has been making the rounds on Twitter as shoppers use the slogan when posting pictures of empty and sparse grocery store shelves to the social media site. Images of barren shelves were shared by Americans far and wide, including media members, politicians, and other shoppers as they feel the effects of supply chain issues and labor shortages under the Biden administration. Curtis Houck, the managing editor at NewsBusters, shared images of shelves that appear to be picked clean in Oakton, Virginia: Conservative comedians and hosts of the “Hodgetwins” podcast Keith and Kevin Hodge retweeted images of desolate...

Dr. Robert Malone joined Steve Bannon on The War Room to discuss the latest viral outbreak in China. The communist regime is hiding the nature and spread of this latest disease. Dr. Malone today told the War Room audience that he is hearing the current disease that is spreading across China is reportedly an “Ebola-like hemorrhagic fever virus.” The regime is hiding the true nature of this disease from the public and from the global community — Just like last time! The Australian Border Force are investigating whether Novak Djokovic lied on his entry form. It appears he made a false declaration claiming he had not travelled in the 14 days leading up to his arrival in Melbourne, the Herald Sun reports. All travellers arriving in Australia are asked if they have 'travelled or will travel in the 14 days prior to your flight to Australia'. They are also warned: 'Giving false or misleading information is a serious offence. You may also be liable to a civil penalty for giving false or misleading information.' Djokovic ticked 'No' in response to the...

A man is doing well after the first successful transplant of a pig heart into a human body, possibly opening a new path for those facing an overburdened donor system, according to the University of Maryland. The Food and Drug Administration on New Year’s Eve gave emergency authorization for David Bennett, 57, to receive a genetically modified pig heart, the University of Maryland Medical Center said. Bennett, who had been deemed ineligible for a conventional heart transplant, had been hospitalized for six weeks with a life-threatening arrhythmia and was connected to a heart-lung bypass machine. Dr. Bartley Griffith, the operating...

As she watched rioters break into the U.S. Capitol last January 6, MSNBC host Joy Reid has revealed her greatest worry was that the mob would vandalize the Black History Museum, because the protests were “deeply rooted in anti-blackness.” “I can remember every moment of that day, really, and thinking to myself, ‘My God I hope that these marauding masses of MAGA supporters don’t find the Black History Museum and ransack it.’ That was the first thing that struck me as I saw them, you know, heading toward the Capitol and starting to bash their way in,” said Reid on...
