Tesla owners speak to CNBC about how they’ve used the internal computer and battery power of the car to mine cryptocurrencies. San Francisco-based Siraj Raval mines ethereum and polygon by using JavaScript to hack into his Tesla’s native CPU. Others have tried hooking up graphic processing units directly to the Tesla car battery. But Raval’s favorite way to mint crypto coins like ethereum is to use JavaScript to hack into his Tesla’s native CPU. The CPU is the car’s internal computer that helps with system navigation and provides entertainment to riders. “It’s much faster, and it’s much more energy efficient,”...

From Kyrie Irving’s refusal to be vaccinated to the Nets relenting and allowing their point guard to return on a part-time basis, Charles Barkley has all sorts of problems with Brooklyn. After Irving’s season debut in the Nets’ win in Indiana on Wednesday, the TNT analyst ripped both the star and team on Thursday for enabling this unconventional marriage. “I have an issue with the entire thing,” Barkley said on “Inside the NBA.” “Kyrie is a heck of a player. But to only play in road games, I don’t think it is fair to the game, No. 1. But I...

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor professed not to be able to understand the distinction between federal authority and state police powers during oral arguments in a consolidated case before the court on Friday morning. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) rule states that employers of 100 or more workers must either require employees to be vaccinated, or force unvaccinated employees to submit to weekly testing and masking in the workplace. Both the National Federation of Independent Business and the state of Ohio are suing to end the OSHA vaccine or test mandate. Critics, including the plaintiffs, submit that the...

Destiny James, left, and Adreonna Adair, right, are in trouble. The two woman are accused of beating up a Spirit Airlines employee in the baggage claim area of Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas and then resisting arrest. The incident occurred at Las Vegas Airport on Thursday at 4:30pm. According to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police report, Adair and James attacked a Spirit Airlines worker in the baggage claim area. It is not clear what prompted the incident, how long it went on, or how whether the Spirit employee was hurt. Police were called to the scene and...

Rep. Tom McClintock, the outspoken conservative who could play a major role in immigration policy next year if Republicans control the House, will seek reelection in a newly drawn congressional district that largely covers territory south of his current seat. The new 5th Congressional District captures parts of Modesto and Fresno along with the western Sierra Nevada, combining parts of districts currently held by McClintock and former Rep. Devin Nunes. It is staunchly Republican: Voters there would have backed former President Donald Trump in 2020 with a 12% margin of victory, according to several election-tracking organizations, a strong signal they’re...

As a native New Yorker, I have strong opinions about pizza, just like I’m supposed to. So when Papa Johns’ newly launched “New York style” pizzas hit the market late last month, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to participate in a time-honored NYC tradition: telling other people exactly how the city’s iconic foods should be made. The variability of New York–style pizzas, even within the five boroughs, is vast. There are the old-school Brooklyn spots (L&B, Di Fara’s), the media darlings (Lucali, L’Industrie), the unassuming neighborhood joints, and the ubiquitous dollar slice shops. You will be treated to a very...

Christmas Weekday John 3:22-30 Friends, today’s Gospel focuses on John the Baptist. I think it’s fair to say that you cannot really understand Jesus without understanding John, which is precisely why all four Evangelists tell the story of the Baptist as a kind of overture to the story of Jesus. John did not draw attention to himself. Rather, he presented himself as a preparation, a forerunner, a prophet preparing the way of the Lord. He was summing up much of Israelite history but stressing that this history was open-ended, unfinished. And therefore, how powerful it was when, upon spying Jesus...

Skyrocketing gas prices are sparking major concerns in the UK, with households bracing for higher bills and food prices. The energy crisis has already hit millions of Brits, but is set to hit more still. The UK is highly dependent on consumer spending to generate output, indicating the economy could still be in the mire heading into the spring. A wave of concern over the swelling cost of living is sweeping across Britain. While households are bracing for higher tax bills and are already being stung by food prices leaping, it is swelling energy costs that will hit hardest in...

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 6 1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be...

An Asian man who was brutally assaulted in an April hate crime attack has died from his injuries, the NYPD announced Saturday. Yao Pan Ma, 61, was repeatedly kicked in the head April 23 while collecting cans in East Harlem, cops said. Ex-con Jarrod Powell was caught on video assaulting Ma, and busted four days after the savage attack, which left the victim in a coma. Ma died Dec. 31, the NYPD said.

A man in black bloc behaving suspiciously near a right-wing rally outside the Pinellas County Courthouse in Florida on Jan. 6 was apprehended by deputies after he tried fleeing on foot. Garrett James Smith, 22, was arrested and found carrying an active pipe bomb, Antifa propaganda and a written document on what to bring for his direct action. He had recently returned from Portland, Ore. "He was running fast, he was running away from something," Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said at a press conference on Friday. Smith was purportedly targeting dozens of the attendees of a rally protesting the...

Mali’s army spokesperson has said Russian soldiers have deployed to the northern city of Timbuktu to train Malian forces at a base vacated by French troops last month amid persistent insecurity in a country where large swaths of territory are out of the government’s control. The Malian government said late last year that “Russian trainers” had arrived in the country, but Bamako and Moscow have so far provided few details on the deployment, including on how many soldiers are involved or the Russian troops’ precise mission. On December 23, a group of Western countries led by former colonial power France,...

Mostly Peaceful The rioting that happened on the Capitol grounds was conducted by a relative minority of the throngs of peaceful protesters present that day, and the violent attackers included not just right-wing Trump supporters, but also some left wing activists who joined the crowd, and an undetermined number of undercover federal officers. The media has generally treated the entire "date," and everyone who attended the Trump event in Washington D.C., as if it were some sort of criminal conspiracy from beginning to end. If we had a generally neutral media, the media would be careful not to lump the...

People are becoming more and more delusional by the day! Just when you think you have seen it all, someone comes along and proves you wrong. For example, there is a transgender TikTok user who recently posted a video accusing a baby of being transphobic, and bragged about making the baby cry after scolding him for his transphobia. The person was angry that the baby seemed to prefer that she/he wear a wig to look more feminine. The TikToker said, “I have talked about the transphobic baby at work before. I went in a room with him today and I...

Retail liquor and cannabis shops in Canada's Quebec province will require shoppers to show proof of vaccination amid a rising surge of new Covid cases. The new measure goes into effect on Tuesday, 18 January. Health officials say they hope the order will encourage more people to get vaccinated. New cases are spiking in Quebec despite the region having one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. On Thursday, health officials warned of a "tsunami" of new hospital admissions. Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé told reporters that customers will have to display proof of vaccination to enter the government-run...

MOSCOW—The sixth day of violent unrest devolved into a massacre on the streets of Kazakhstan’s capital city of Almaty, with dozens of protesters and at least 13 law enforcement officials killed, as well as hundreds more wounded. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev—who just a week ago was considered a weak shadow of Kazakhstan’s now-ousted Security Council Chairman Narsultan Nazarbayev—admitted he was the one who had given local security forces the order “to shoot to kill” protestors without warning on Thursday. Never before has any post-Soviet leader confessed to such a terrifying order. A day prior to Thursday’s bloodshed, Tokayev had claimed he...
