Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the No. 2 Senate Republican and a close ally of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), on Saturday announced he will run for reelection in 2022.
In a statement posted to Twitter, Thune said he is “uniquely positioned” to serve South Dakota and be “a strong and effective senator who can deliver the results they expect."

Thune is far from perfect but S.D. is weird for a conservative state and could have elected a Dem. Thune will hold it.
Typical politician speak. What are the results Senator? Oh I see....whatever they expect will work. I can't believe voters don't question this meaningless speech.
Yuk! Hopefully he’ll end up being a back bencher and, for good measure, his wife will be unfaithful to him.
No surprise. China Mitch has groomed Thune to be his successor as GOP minority leader.
Thune is a weak soul.
Vote him out!
Primary this SOB!
Excuse me Bruce, but your take is a little shaky. You’ve pretty much established yourself as someone who will vote for anyone with an R on their shirt.
The fact that Thune backs McConnell or vice versa, should be the clincher to vote against Thune.
He may be a squish, but he's no Mitt Romney.
Thune is a RINO. Mitch’s hatchet man.
Oh yeah........that’s one RINO that needs to go and his relationship with Turtle is suspect. I don’t trust him!!!
South Dakota can do much better than Thune but let’s not forget, he beat that scumbag rat Tom Dashole.
Not thrilled but I’d rather have him on board 80% of the time than a Dem 0% of the time.
The main thing right now is to take a Repub majority in the senate to block obama/biden judges from taking the bench.
The RINO swampers are lining to take McConnell’s position when he retires. If it’s Thune this could be as epic as that day of days when we finally replaced Boehner with Ryan.
Over anyone with a "D" in their shirt? Absolutely.
My position on Thune is based on what someone who knew the state posted on FR in another thread recently. They said there was a good chance that Thune would be replaced by a Democrat if he didn't run - which sounds odd because it is South Dakota. Yet, "conservative" South Dakota did send Democrat Tom Johnson to the Senate for three straight terms, so it's clearly possible.
If there was someone more conservative in S.D. who we know would keep that seat from going to a Democrat. I'd gladly support them.
Right, the problem is those 20% votes, they are the ones that allow ObamaCare to still be the Law of the Land, other votes that increase the National Debt.
You sure you need someone who tells you it is raining when they are pissing on you?
