They have decried COVID-19 as a hoax, promoted unproven treatments and pushed bogus claims about the vaccine, including that the shots magnetize the human body. The purveyors of this misinformation are not shadowy figures operating in the dark corners of the internet. They are a small but vocal group of doctors practicing medicine in communities around the country. Now medical boards are under increasing pressure to act. Organizations that advocate for public health have called on them to take a harder line by disciplining the doctors, including potentially revoking their licenses. The push comes as the pandemic enters a second...

No matter how much we’d like to eradicate SARS-CoV-2, it may be better to settle for other forms of control. ___________________________________________________________________________________ As the end of the year approaches, we are nearing the two-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic. Globally, over 5 million have died, and that’s almost certainly an undercount, especially in countries that still lack the resources to properly test and vaccinate their populations. The U.S. has reported more than 750,000 COVID-19 deaths, and we’ve seen four surges of cases since early 2020, hoping that each would be our last. Just last week, scientists detected a heavily mutated new...

The comments from American Airlines CEO Doug Parker and Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly came on Wednesday during a Senate committee hearing on the financial support the industry received during the pandemic. CNN reported: Both Kelly and Parker, who each have announced plans to retire as CEOs in the...

There are some historical mysteries that may never be solved, from the date that Jesus was born to the identity of Jack the Ripper to the location of Cleopatra's tomb. Sometimes, that's because the relevant excavated material has been lost or an archaeological site has been destroyed. Other times, it's because new evidence is unlikely to come forward or the surviving evidence is too vague to lead scholars to a consensus. The lack of answers only makes these enigmas more intriguing. Here, Live Science takes a look at 14 of these historical questions that may never have definitive explanations. WAS...

Owning a home had never been something Kristopher Esqueda even thought about. He was a successful restaurateur in San Francisco, helping to open many popular restaurants such as Saison and Sons and Daughters, and every month he turned in a $3,500 rent check for a two-bedroom apartment in the Tenderloin. One day after visiting a friend in Nashville who had moved there from the Bay Area, Esqueda left his apartment, stepping over hypodermic needles and feces on his way to work and started to wonder whether his time in the city was up.

'At stake here is the integrity of women's sports,' they wrote in the letter obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com. 'The precedent being set – one in which women do not have a protected and equitable space to compete – is a direct threat to female athletes in every sport. What are the boundaries? How is this in line with the NCAA's commitment to providing a fair environment for student-athletes? The parents of about 10 swimmers banded together in October as Thomas' advantage became clear. Just when the world thought it might have COVID-19 under control, the new variant Omicron began spreading through the population faster than any variant seen before. The variant has been reported in 77 countries, though is likely in more, many European countries have re-entered lockdown, and early data suggests that Omicron is magnitudes more infectious than both the original COVID-19 strain and Delta. Now, new preliminary research, currently under peer-review, is illuminating just how much more transmissible Omicron is, and the mechanisms that allow it to outcompete delta. The study, led by researchers from the LKS Faculty of Medicine at...
