Not Having to Earn Love. When my mother married my step father, she promised us how great our life was going to become; the first Christmas I saw presents under the tree. When it came time to open them, none of the presents had my name on them. I was not the child who belonged to the money giver. Often, children in split families perceive that they are competing for the love of their parents and may seem to have to please two people who want the child to love them more than the other. The child can grow up...

First, let’s clear up a misunderstanding. Some people think that a COVID booster is different from a COVID vaccine, but that’s not true. There is no difference between a manufacturer’s booster and its primary vaccine series. Both come from the same vial. There’s been no change in the formulas that were first authorized last year. Pfizer and Janssen boosters are even the dosed the same as a single shot from the primary series. Moderna boosters are half doses of a single shot from its primary series. Either way, the booster shot is just more of the same. If you want...

Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. John 10:7, 9-10 (King James Version) The entire world has turned into Communist China. While the world was supposedly hoping the Chinese Communist Party would become civilized and give more freedom to their people the World Communist Parties have taken more and more freedom from their people. With the advent of the Corona virus, it has given the leaders the ability to strip people of their Rights under the excuse of protecting them from a virus which is not nearly as...

The eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma, located off the northwestern coast of Africa, has been erupting for nearly eleven weeks with no signs of abating. Soon the eruption could be La Palma’s longest in over 500 years. The Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted on Sept. 19 and led to the evacuation of thousands of residents. For the last 75 days, the volcano has spewed lava out of fissures, unleashed plumes of ash and toxic gasses, and acid rain. After two and a half months of non-stop volcanic eruptions, some parts of the island...

Electrodes implanted in the brain help alleviate symptoms like the intrusive tremors associated with Parkinson's disease. But current probes face limitations due to their size and inflexibility. "The brain is squishy and these implants are rigid," said Shaun Patel. About four years ago, when he discovered Charles M. Lieber's ultra-flexible alternatives, he saw the future of brain-machine interfaces. In a recent perspective titled "Precision Electronic Medicine," published in Nature Biotechnology, Patel, a faculty member at the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, and Lieber, the Joshua and Beth Friedman University Professor, argue that neurotechnology is on the cusp of...

The Pope has denounced "narrow self-interest and nationalism" over the way Europe treats migrants. Speaking on the Greek island of Lesbos, where he met dozens of migrants, Pope Francis said they were being used for political propaganda. He urged focus on the causes of migration, such as "forgotten wars", instead of punishing those who feel their effects. And he criticised the building of walls to keep people out. "In Europe there are those who persist in treating the problem as a matter that does not concern them - this is tragic," he said. "History teaches us that narrow self-interest and...

I screwed up. I usually run “Best Christmas Ads” on the Sunday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday but simply forgot this year. Possibly because nobody makes really good Christmas ads anymore. “Woke” and Christmas just doesn’t seem a natural pairing, but still the agencies try; producing such fare as this John Lewis and Partners commercial that morphs the now mandatory inter-racial hook-up into an inter-species encounter where an albino alien meets up with a little earthbound gingerbread man. Screenshot from John Lewis and Partners Christmas 2021 adNow John Lewis is a British company, but even the Brits seem to...

Second Sunday of Advent Luke 3:1-6 Friends, in today’s Gospel, Luke quotes from the prophet Isaiah: "Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths." (Isa. 40:3) Advent is a great liturgical season of waiting—but not a passive waiting. We yearn, we search, and we reach out for the God who will come to us in human flesh. In short, we prepare the way of the Lord Jesus Christ. This preparation has a penitential dimension, because it is the season in which we prepare for the coming of a Savior, and we don’t need a Savior unless we’re deeply...

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s hearing of the oral arguments in the Dobbs case, there is great optimism that, at last, Roe v. Wade could be overturned. But a lot can happen between now and the time the court makes its final ruling, most likely in June. And that means now is the time to increase prayer for a righteous decision. By no means can we take our foot off the gas. After the hearings on Wednesday, liberal CNN analyst Jeffrey Toobin tweeted, “If you believe that women should have the right choose abortion, today's Supreme Court argument...

Consumers’ Research, the nation’s oldest consumer advocacy organization, sent a Dec. 2 letter (pdf) to ten U.S. governors warning them about the reliance of their states’ pension funds on BlackRock’s strong ties to China. BlackRock, under its CEO Larry Fink, is the first foreign-owned company to receive a license to operate in China’s $3.5 trillion mutual fund industry, Forbes reported. Consumers’ Research executive director William Hild sent the warning to the governors of Washington, Florida, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Montana, Nebraska, and West Virginia—the ten states with the most investments in BlackRock. Washington has invested the most...

On December 1 the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the case debating the constitutionality of Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act, which many believe may lead to the Supreme Court weakening or overturning Roe v. Wade. Justice Sonia Sotomayor asked Mississippi Solicitor General Scott Stewart, “How is your interest anything but a religious view? The issue of when life begins has been hotly debated by philosophers since the beginning of time. It's still debated in religions. So, when you say this is the only right that takes away from the state the ability to protect...
