“Christ, Our Great High Priest” (Hebrews 7:23-28) For a number of weeks now, our Epistle readings have come from the Book of Hebrews. And throughout these readings, Hebrews has been making this major point: All the worship practices of Old Testament Israel, all its religious institutions, were pointing ahead to, and have been fulfilled by, Jesus Christ. The Sabbath rest, the tabernacle, the sacrifices, the priesthood--all these have been fulfilled in an even greater way by Christ. Take the priesthood, for example, and the office of the high priest, in particular. Our recent readings from Hebrews have made the point...

Concerned citizens are raising questions about some experiments conducted by Dr. Fauci's NIH, including one where puppies were tortured to death, their vocal cords severed to mute their screams. In an interview, Fauci said that anyone who attacks puppy torture is attacking science itself. "Puppy torture is science," said Fauci angrily. "So is grafting baby scalps onto lab mice and engineering viruses that kill millions! I AM SCIENCE! I AM GOD!!!" Fauci then threw back his head and laughed maniacally at the sky. Fauci insisted that his experiments are "super important", and "real science." He also defended some of his...

Ed Blackwell, Dewey Redman, Ornette Coleman, Charlie Haden, at Prince Street May 1971 © Val Wilmer Once upon a time, before Manhattan priced out its young talent, you had to be an artist to live in SoHo. And in the late 1960s and 70s, a cultural phenomenon known as “Loft Jazz” came into existence in downtown Manhattan’s abandoned industrial spaces. Eclectic, edgy and often Black musicians turned Soho’s neglected lofts into places where they both lived, rehearsed, recorded and performed. Before gentrification hit, musicians fled small town America to squat these urban spaces vacated by the manufacturing industry, storing their...

Three former seminarians say Cleveland diocesan and seminary officials failed to respond appropriately, after a priest allegedly pressured them to take naked swims with him at a lake house and other locations, couching the invitations in both spiritual language and excessive alcohol consumption. One seminarian also said the priest took nude photos and videos of him without consent. While the Cleveland diocese told The Pillar Thursday that the matter “does not involve any conduct that could be reasonably considered to be coercive [or] harassing,” one former seminarian called that response stunning. The former seminarians say they were harassed and manipulated...

Democrat regulations are holding the entire economy hostage.. After a long cross-country flight, I made it out of LAX and into an Uber. I wasn’t in the mood to talk, but the driver was. And hearing that I was a journalist, he wanted to tell me a story. I’ve heard a lot of stories over the years, but this may have been the most important one I let go. He hadn’t always been driving an Uber at 11:30 at night. Not all that long ago he used to have his own business with 7 trucks before he was bankrupted by...

Barack Obama tells Virginians we don’t have time for ‘trumped up culture wars’ and ‘fake outrage’ Posted at 7:45 pm on October 23, 2021 by Brett T. Everyone has noticed by now that Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe is bringing in a lot of big names who don’t live in Virginia to campaign for him: Kamala Harris, Stacey Abrams, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden, to name a few. Obama campaigned for McAuliffe over the weekend and told the “crowd” that we don’t have time for “trumped-up culture...

The trial of pro-family activist Bill Whatcott continues in Toronto. As we reported in our first installment, Bill is charged with “willful promotion of hatred” for passing out controversial flyers during the 2016 Toronto Gay Pride Parade. It’s stunning (and frightening) that the Canadian government is going to these extreme lengths over a flyer that in the U.S. (and most places) would simply have been considered an annoyance at most, not a high-profile felony that carries prison time. The trial began on Oct 4. During the following three sessions (Oct. 11, Oct. 15, and Oct. 18) the Crown (i.e. prosecution)...

My newborn daughter passed away in her sleep yesterday. She was 2 weeks old and had just been to the doctor the day before. She had gained weight since birth and was doing amazing! The only issue of note was that her temperature read low at the doctor. They had us do skin to skin and it went up on the 3rd reading so we were allowed to leave. The next morning we found her. My heart is breaking and we have no answers as to why this would happen. I hope some of you may be able to please...

For several years I have advocated a Shallow Exponent Flat Tax. Instead of 4 or 5 tiers, there would be only ONE tier that we all face. But the more money you make, your burden goes up slightly higher than as a flat percentage. The tax would look something like: Tax = 10% X {[Income]^1.05} The exponent could be set by congress every 10 years or during wartime. The flat exponent perhaps should be on a longer timeframe for revisiting, because 10% is very easy to do in your head. As you go up higher in income, your tax burden...

GOD'S PERFECTION In Brooklyn, New York, Chush is a school that caters to learning disabled children. Some children remain in Chush for their entire school career, while others can be main-streamed into conventional schools. At a Chush fund-raising dinner, the father of a Chush child delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he cried out, "Where is the perfection in my son Shaya? Everything God does is done with perfection. But my child cannot understand things as other children do. My child cannot remember facts and...

The Art Institute of Chicago fired more than 150 volunteers and suspended its decades-old docent program after the famed museum hired a woke consulting firm that advised the cultural institution to ditch the 'wealthy white' guides and prioritize 'equity and diversity.' Even worse, the mostly elderly docents, who are well-versed on the the exhibits at nearly 150-year-old museum on Lake Michigan, were terminated by email on Sept 3 because it wanted to 'rebuild our program from the ground up.' The museum - featured prominently in the 1986 hit film Ferris Beuller's Day Off - hired The Equity Project, a Colorado-based...

The annual United Nations climate conference is where world leaders go to make a reputation for themselves. For Gov. Gavin Newsom, this year’s climate summit couldn’t come at a better time. On the heels of the recall election, Newsom is primed to boldly reassert California’s leadership on climate. He ran on a pro-science message — contrasting his stance on COVID and the climate crisis with that of his conservative challengers — and it worked. The governor defeated the recall attempt by the same 24-point margin that he was elected with in 2018.
