On the surface, Kyrgyzstan is one of the world’s poorest nations, but just beneath the ground it holds almost unimaginable wealth. Carved high into the side of the Tien Shan mountain range, the Kumtor gold mine was built to extract that wealth, making the Central Asian nation, and the Canadian firm behind the project, rich in the process. Instead, the vast mine, one of the world’s largest, has become the center of a long-running political row. In May, just weeks after being inaugurated as the country’s president following violent riots last October, Sadyr Japyrov ordered officials to roll in and...

I think we can say, at least for the moment, it looks like the Biden agenda is dead.Whether it will come back at a later point, scaled back is another question. But, right now, it’s looking like the progressives’ greed just killed the whole works. They tried to hold up the infrastructure bill by demanding the reconciliation spending spree first and got called on it. So now what they have is nothing. As we reported earlier, Biden sent strong signals that the meeting was a failure by indicating a timeline for “getting this done” no longer matters. “We’re gonna get this...

It's been bugging me since I saw the first videos of people lined up for their Covid-19 vaccination --- the personnel giving the vaccinations are not aspirating before injecting. Why does this matter? Let me explain. Many if not most of the medications, and most if not all vaccines, are meant to be put into the body --- but not into the bloodstream. This can actually be a life-or-death issue, depending on what is being injected. I was taught way back when to always aspirate before injecting just to be 100% sure. This means pulling back on the syringe plunger...

In a rather strange and unexpected twist, it is NBA players who are reshaping the discussion around coronavirus vaccinations and personal choice, with numerous players voicing their opinions this week as the league debates punishments for the approximately 5% of players who reportedly aren’t vaccinated. We previously wrote about how Orlando Magic basketball player Jonathan Isaac, 23, and Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal, 28, were among several players who spoke out Monday after being questioned by reporters on “Media Day” as to their personal opinions on the coronavirus vaccine and why they felt like it should be a personal choice instead...

"I'm retiring. This is the first, and only, official announcement. … You've got the news. Share it with the world." He added: "I'm not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe. These are my last five shows." Roth also reflected on the passing of his longtime bandmate, legendary VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who died of cancer a year ago. "I...

While Pennsylvania nursing homes and long-term care facilities already face major staffing challenges, the federal vaccine mandate and a new state-proposed minimum staffing requirement could devastate the industry. President Joe Biden’s 100 percent vaccine mandate for healthcare workers is expected to throw thousands of employees out of a job, in an industry that has struggled to find workers in the last decade. Around 35 percent of Pennsylvania’s nursing home workforce is unvaccinated. That amounts to roughly 33,000 workers who would lose their jobs if they don’t get the shots, Zach Shamberg, CEO of the Pennsylvania Health Care Association told The...

China has confirmed the loss of its Shiyan-10 satellite, despite an otherwise successful liftoff on Monday (Sept. 27). The Shiyan-10 satellite launched to space on a Long March 3B rocket, which lifted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China around 4:20 a.m. EDT (0820 GMT; 4 p.m. local time) on Monday (Sept. 27). For the past 18 months Australians have endured onerous government restrictions imposed on their lives in the name of fighting Covid. Basic activities once considered the birthright of every Australian such as going to work or school and spending time with family have been banned during the pandemic as governments pursued the ultimately impossible goal of stamping out the virus. Australia was alone among democratic nations in preventing people from leaving the country and imposed caps and mandatory quarantine for returning citizens - while states have used public health laws to impose intrusive QR codes, mask wearing, psychologically devastating isolation...

In 1950, during one of his most important speeches, Mises identified the most dangerous ideology on the global stage: "They reject socialism no less than capitalism. They recommend a third system, which, as they say, is as far from capitalism as it is from socialism, which as a third system of society’s economic organization, stands midway between the two other systems, and while retaining the advantages of both, avoids the disadvantages inherent in each. This third system is known as the system of interventionism. In the terminology of American politics it is often referred to as the middle-of-the-road policy." This...

Unlike many private insurance plans, Medicare does not currently cover the cost of wigs. Massachusetts Representative Ayanna Pressley would like to change that.“[To] be bald as a woman really does disrupt conventional and societal norms of what is appropriate, what is professional, what is attractive, what is feminine,” Pressley — who has hair-loss causing autoimmune disease alopecia — told Vanity Fair in an interview Thursday. The same day, she unveiled a bill requiring Medicare to pay for wigs for those experiencing hair loss due to disease or medical treatments. The new bill is brought by Pressley and her Massachusetts House...

The grand master of over the top sanctimonious hyperbole, Jon Meacham, has struck again and this time he did not disappoint. Meacham got up on his MSNBC soapbox on Morning Joe on Thursday and proclaimed unto all the peoples of the world that the very fate of Western liberalism depended on just two people: Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. For good measure, Meacham also tossed in the fate of the Constitution as well. According to Meacham all this could fall if Manchin and Sinema fail to rally to save the reconciliation bill.

WASHINGTON, Sept 24 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation on Friday to protect abortion services against growing Republican-backed state restrictions, including a Texas law that imposes a near-total ban on abortion, but the bill is unlikely to pass the Senate. The Democratic-controlled House voted 218-211 largely along party lines to pass the legislation called the Women's Health Protection Act. Just one Democrat, Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas, voted against the proposal. The bill would protect abortion services and pre-empt many restrictions Republicans have passed at the state level, such as those requiring ultrasounds or other tests. The...
