Mark Milley for what she called "despicable" questioning of the top military general by fellow Republican lawmakers during a congressional hearing, as the Joint Chiefs chairman fielded questions about comments he made following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, and phone calls he had with a Chinese official to assure them that the U.S. was not preparing an attack. Cheney, during a House Armed Services Committee hearing about the U.S.’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, opened her five minutes of questioning by discussing the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, arguing that...

"Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one." On this episode of the Resistance Library podcast, Sam and Dave discuss the forgotten history of the Gonzales flag. “Come and Take It.” It’s a slogan of defiance against government tyranny with roots in antiquity that continues to inspire freedom-loving patriots today. This updating of the classic Spartan molṑn labé (meaning “come and take them”) is a powerful challenge to would-be gun grabbers. Seeking to remove arms from the people will not come without dear cost. For the Texian rebels of the Battle of Gonzales, these words were not mere tough talk. They were words the Texians were willing to...

We found no significant difference in cycle threshold values between vaccinated and unvaccinated, asymptomatic and symptomatic groups infected with SARS-CoV-2 Delta. In a survey of parents in metro Chicago, nearly half of Black parents -- 48% -- said they were reluctant to have their kids vaccinated against COVID-19, researchers say. That's significantly higher than the 33% of Hispanic parents and 26% of White parents who expressed vaccine hesitancy, the findings showed. "As vaccines are becoming available to younger children, and with continued spikes in COVID-19 cases, it is of the utmost importance that we are able to widely distribute the vaccine," said study co-author Dr. Jennifer Kusma, a pediatrician at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The announcement came in the form of a blog post on Wednesday:Working closely with health authorities, we looked to balance our commitment to an open platform with the need to remove egregious harmful content. We’ve steadily seen false claims about the coronavirus vaccines spill over into misinformation about vaccines in general, and we’re now at a point where it’s more important than...

Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough denied a bid by Democrats Wednesday to make language giving millions of immigrants legal status part of the massive $3.5 trillion spending bill — dealing a second blow to the party’s efforts to expand the scope of the already massive proposal. Democrats are hoping to pass the plan through reconciliation, meaning it only requires 51 Senate votes rather than the usual 60. However, Senate rules call for such bills to be focused on the federal budget — as well as for the removal of provisions deemed “merely incidental” to government spending.
