New research has found that fruit and vegetable consumption and exercise can increase levels of happiness. While the link between lifestyle and wellbeing has been previously documented and often used in public health campaigns to encourage healthier diets and exercise, new findings published by the Journal of Happiness Studies show that there is also a positive causation from lifestyle to life satisfaction. This research is the first of its kind to unravel the causation of how happiness, the consumption of fruit and vegetables and exercising are related, rather than generalizing a correlation. The researchers used an instrumental variable approach to...

The Limes Africanus refers to a series of fortifications and defensive lines that delineated the southern border of the Roman Empire in Northern Africa. There is no supporting text to propose that each of the Limes operated as a singular or coordinated defensive line, nor was the North African Limes ever referred to as Limes Africanus by the Romans (modern invention). The Limes served to protect the coastal provinces from raids by the native peoples of the Sahara, and to control trade through taxation of goods that came from Sub-Saharan Africa.Unlike the Limes in other parts of the Empire that had...

In recent years, long-term trends in economic inequality have attracted growing attention from social scientists, which also reflects civil society’s increasing awareness of the deepening economic disparities. In this context, particular attention has been paid to the share of the total income or wealth earned/owned by the top of the distribution – usually the top 1%, 5% or 10% among individuals or households. The share of the top richest is both interesting per se (as it is informative of “how rich” the better-off are), and as an indicator of the overall trends in economic inequality. New time series of wealth...

The special counsel’s final report on the Clinton campaign’s manufacturing of the Trump–Russia collusion narrative will be very interesting reading. There is a long game and a short game going on in special counsel John Durham’s indictment of Democratic Party lawyer Michael Sussmann on a false-statements count. The short of it is this: A false statement was allegedly made by Sussmann to the FBI’s then-general counsel, James Baker, on September 19, 2016. In federal law, the false-statement crime has a five-year statute of limitations, meaning it had to be charged by this Sunday (September 19, 2021). Consequently, even if Durham...

Going on to explain why the move to legalise cryptocurrencies is a good option for Panama, the 32-year-old congressman listed the enhancement of job creation, the support for innovation, government transparency, the emergence of new businesses or ventures, decentralisation, and the expansion of what the country’s financial services industry currently offers. “Today, we present the Crypto Law. Earlier this year, researchers at Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky witnessed a cyberespionage campaign targeting Microsoft Windows PCs at government and telecom entities in China and Pakistan. They began in June 2020 and continued through to April 2021. What piqued the researchers’ interest was the hacking software used by the digital spies, whom Kaspersky had dubbed Bitter APT, a pseudonym for an unspecified government agency. Aspects of the code looked like some the Moscow antivirus provider had previously seen and attributed to a company it gave the cryptonym “Moses.” Moses, said Kaspersky, was a mysterious provider of hacking tech known as...

A TOUR OF THE PICKETS--MR. RAYMOND SALUTED. Mr. RAYMOND to-day made the tour of our outer pickets from Chain Bridge to Alexandria. He was frequently within eight of the rebel pickets. At Bailey's Cross Roads he saw the rebel fortifications on Munson's Hill. While observing them from an open window of the house in which our pickets are stationed, he was honored with a message from a rebel rifle. The ball passed high, going over the house. There was little of interest occurred on the outposts. The men at Fort Ellsworth were practicing at the guns. The balls going over...

New York state has fixed an issue with the Excelsior Pass Wallet that allows users to acquire and store COVID-19 vaccine credentials. The issue -- discovered by researchers at the NCC Group -- allows someone "to create and store fake vaccine credentials in their NYS Excelsior Pass Wallet that might allow them to gain access to physical spaces (such as businesses and event venues)... The researchers found that the application did not validate vaccine credentials added to it, allowing forged credentials to be stored by users. New York State was notified of the issue on April 30 but spent months...

A man who wears a mask and a badge saying he’s fully vaccinated followed a woman around a Target store, harassing her, because she wasn’t wearing a mask. The woman clearly tells this mask nazi that she has natural immunity, but he doesn’t care. He doesn’t see a mask and proceeds to call her a bad person and a bad American. Seriously. She humorously responds, saying she is a bad person AND she voted for Trump. Someone in the background started cheering ‘yeah Trump, me too!’

As the nation grapples with the threat of high inflation, Bloomberg News is reporting that Americans are now feeling the heat of price spikes. The outlet published a damning story Sept. 17 headlined, “Americans See Worst Buying Conditions in Decades on High Prices.” Specifically, according to Bloomberg News, buying conditions “for household durables deteriorated to their worst since 1980 because of high prices.” The declines, based on the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment report, were attributed to “complaints about high prices.” The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board stated July 19 that Biden’s “policies have abetted a spike in inflation that...
