One week ago, we said that in what is increasingly a stagflationary burst (or, as BofA put it “transitory hyperinflation“) right out of the 1970s playbook (and that was even before the latest blistering hot CPI and PPI numbers printed a few days ago)… … amid this dismal “transitorily hyperinflationary” landscape where those whose incomes aren’t similarly hyperinflating find themselves at risk of being unable to afford a roof above their head, “there was one ray of hope: renting, with rent prices tumbling in recent months and according to the BLS’ monthly CPI metric, rent inflation had just dropped to...

Chicago has a lot of great things to offer. It's super windy, freezing in the winter, scorching in the summer, the homicide rate is off the charts, and there are legions of rats roaming the streets. At least the deep-dish pizza is good! To solve the rat issue, Chicago has decided to release a ninja-army of 1,000 feral cats: Yep, Chicago was named "rattiest city" by pest-control group Orkin for the sixth year in a row.

Paul: Instead, government authorities, self-interested in continuing gain-of-function research, say there's nothing to see here. There may be some truth to the assertion of self-interest. The international community of virologists is relatively small, and they tend to know one another. Peter Daszak, head of EcoHealth Alliance, which has been the main conduit for NIH research funds on coronaviruses to the Wuhan lab in China, and has worked closely with scientists in China, has been criticized for having a conflict of interest in his role as a member of the World Health Organization team that investigated the origins of SARS-CoV-2.
