In an era of renewed great power competition, China’s military modernization effort, including its naval modernization effort, has become the top focus of U.S. defense planning and budgeting. China’s navy, which China has been steadily modernizing for more than 25 years, since the early to mid-1990s, has become a formidable military force within China’s near-seas region, and it is conducting a growing number of operations in more-distant waters, including the broader waters of the Western Pacific, the Indian Ocean, and waters around Europe.China’s navy is viewed as posing a major challenge to the U.S. Navy’s ability to achieve and maintain...

Responding to frustration from Iowa parents, the Republican-dominated Legislature in Iowa passed a measure Thursday that would require all school districts in the state to reopen by no later than Feb. 15. Gov. Kim Reynolds (R), who made the legislation the top priority of the 2021 legislative session, promptly signed the bill, saying, "It's time to put local control into the hands of the parents where it belongs. So that they can choose what is best for their children." All Iowa schools have offered at least partial in-person learning since last summer, when Reynolds signed a proclamation mandating that school...

As the family was packing up to leave their rental in Massanutten on Tuesday morning, 4-year-old Dominic was outside playing. A new buzzword on social media, cable news, and among leftist activists is “deprogramming.” Along with terms like “reprogramming,” “de-Baathification,” and “deplatforming,” deprogramming refers to cleansing the incorrect mentalities of former Trump Administration officials—and even those who voted for Trump. Note that deprogramming does not refer to elites who peddled the “Russian collusion” hoax for years, despite the abject absence of evidence. Not long ago, two Washington Post columnists offered some solutions to the Trumpist threat. One, Max Boot, wished to ban Fox News and other conservative stations from cable subscriptions. The other, Eugene Robinson, suggested that there was a...
