It’s an experience Stephanie Brown and her son Dominic will never forget after he brought home a new friend he made while playing outside. As the family was packing up to leave their rental in Massanutten on Tuesday morning, 4-year-old Dominic was outside playing. Stephanie says while she finished taking things out of the fridge, she heard Dominic’s footsteps at the door as he cleaned off his boots. But what she saw when she peeked around the corner definitely took her by surprise. “I see him and the baby deer standing next to each other almost to come inside!! I was completely shocked! I froze for a second because I literally didn’t know what to do!” she said.
That’s when she quietly walked away to grab her phone to snap the picture that has now gone viral on Facebook. Stephanie says Dominic acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary and wanted to bring his new friend inside for some cereal. “After I got the picture I asked Dominic to walk his new friend back to the woods so his mommy could find him,” she said. Dominic then walked his new friend back to the woods and the family left.
I couldn’t resist. So adorable! I’ve gotten close to fawns but nothing like this.
I remember that movie. Sad though :(
He’s wearing his Christmas jammies.
That’s very sweet. Glad it ended nicely.
If Mama Doe thought the boy was somehow a threat, it may have been a different story. It sounds like an adult was around during the whole encounter, so the boy was safe enough. He won’t forget this for a long time.
“followed me home, can I keep him?”
Just too cute by far.
Nice to see some innocence for a change.
Oh, he will never forget :)
That little deer is looking like it’s asking to come in with the boy...LOL
Who says deer can’t read?
Look at the kid’s outfit/jammies.
Yes is most certainly is.

When I was a kid, I fed peanuts to the squirrels. One was tame and took from my hand. It actually followed me into the house one day and my mom screamed and it ran out. Good memory.
Recently I came across the backstory to that movie. It's roughly based on a true story about author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings when she lived at in rural Florida. The movie is called Cross Creek. I think it is free on Amazon Prime. Stars Mary Steenburgen (Ted Danson's wife) and Rip Torn. It's worth the viewing.
Awww....too cute!! :-D
Thanks! I just may have to watch it as I’ll be snowed in all weekend.
I live in the country so I see deer mostly every day.
There was one young one a few winters back that started
sleeping next to the big outdoor wood heater...
I would go out to put in wood during the night and she would be there sleeping.
I would put out hay and corn for her...
She disappeared during deer season :-/
I also have a bear that shows up occasionally...it has some kind of radio beacon on a collar... I guess the wildlife folks are keeping track of them for some reason.
