The Bay Area woman charged with starting a California wildfire that destroyed more than 100 homes near Redding will undergo a psychiatric exam before returning to court, multiple media outlets reported. Alexandra Souverneva, 30, of Palo Alto made a court appearance in Redding on Tuesday, and the court agreed with her lawyer's request to have his client meet with one to two psychiatrists to assess her mental stability before her next appearance in November, KTLA reported. Souverneva faces a felony arson charge with an enhancement because the fire ignited during a state of emergency. She pleaded not guilty last month...

It’s an experience Stephanie Brown and her son Dominic will never forget after he brought home a new friend he made while playing outside. As the family was packing up to leave their rental in Massanutten on Tuesday morning, 4-year-old Dominic was outside playing. Stephanie says while she finished taking things out of the fridge, she heard Dominic’s footsteps at the door as he cleaned off his boots. But what she saw when she peeked around the corner definitely took her by surprise. “I see him and the baby deer standing next to each other almost to come inside!! I...

Virginia wildlife rescuers are speaking out against "fawn-napping" after seven people dropped off what they thought were abandoned fawns at the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Rescue of Roanoke over the weekend. A spokeswoman for Roanoke Wildlife Rescue said people often think they are rescuing the baby deer, but, more often than not, what they are doing is "fawn-napping."

WOUNDED DEER, Massachusetts – Emily Dickinson College sophomore Fawn Liebowitz died suddenly last week in a kiln explosion on campus. Liebowitz, 20, a sociology major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was tragically killed while firing a pot in the new kiln in Sylvia Plath Hall. “Messy” was how Wounded Deer Fire Chief Michael Redman described the scene of the accident. “It was hard to tell the pot shards from the body parts,” said the pyrodefense professional. “She just blew like a frog sucking on a cherry bomb,” Redman added. The cleanup of Plath Hall has been further complicated by a thin...

The bad news is that governments do a lot of things they shouldn’t do. The good news is that I never run out of material.I’ve even created some sub-categories, such as my U.S. vs U.K. government stupidity contest and my great-moments-in-local-government series. But I never thought I would have a special category about bureaucrats vs. Bambi.1. Bureaucrats in Virginia filed three misdemeanor charges against a man for the horrible crime of rescuing a deer that was hit by a car.2. Bureaucrats in Maryland fined two men $90 each for not having life jackets when they had the gall to rescue a...

KENOSHA, Wis. —WISN 12 News investigates an operation raising questions about the use of government resources and the state policy that meant a death sentence for a fawn. "It was like a SWAT team," shelter employee Ray Schulze said. Two weeks ago, Schulze was working in the barn at the Society of St. Francis on the Kenosha-Illinois border when a swarm of squad cars arrived and officers unloaded with a search warrant. "(There were) nine DNR agents and four deputy sheriffs, and they were all armed to the teeth," Schulze said. The focus of their search was a baby fawn...

In this video we see a protective mother deer beat up a dog and scare the hell out of a relentlessly curious and foolhardy cat. It's pretty disturbing, but I am glad I watched it. Deer often come into our back yard, and if my kids saw a fawn, they'd probably run over and try to cuddle with it.

The great White Hunter has a question he needs answered. His father sent him these pictures and told him that the owner of the dog came home to find that a fawn was laying on his couch next to his dog. They figure that the fawn followed the dog into the house through the doggy door and just made himself at home by getting up on the couch to take a nap with the dog. The Great White Hunter wants to know if the story related to him by his father is true. If it is true, then he would...

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- Tammy Emery used to think of deer as sweet and adorable, like Bambi. An encounter with a hard-charging doe changed that. The 31-year-old secretary was among at least seven people threatened or injured by female deer last year on Southern Illinois University's campus - attacks that have prompted the school to wage a safety campaign during this spring's fawning season. The attacks in the woods at the 20,000-student university have been attributed to a combination of protective motherly instinct, squeezed habitat and, in some cases, a little too much human curiosity. The message now: Keep your...

This was an email forward. I took the names out for privacy. I had to post, too sweet! Copy and edited: A lady found the fawn under her step (they think the doe might have been hit by a car)... her Ridge Back dog is helping look after it. The family named the fawn Bella. Once she has regained her strength (she was not in good shape when the family found her) they are going to send her to some friends who (in the past) raised two orphan deer and released them to the wild. Right now she is being...
