Trump takes control of Metro Police, deploys National Guard to take on Washington crime

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he is activating National Guard troops and is taking over the Metropolitan Police Department to tackle crime in Washington, after beefing up federal law enforcement presence in the nation's capital Saturday.

"I'm deploying the National Guard to help reestablish law, order and public safety in Washington, DC," Trump told reporters at a Monday press conference. "And they're going to be allowed to do their job properly."

Trump also said that he would federalize the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington to respond to crime, placing it under the authority of Attorney General Pam Bondi.

National Guard troops are reserve forces that are mobilized in response to state and federal operations, including natural disasters, and are typically overseen by their respective state governments. However, Trump controversially deployed National Guard troops from California to respond to immigration riots in June, bypassing the California Gov. Gavin Newsom to dispatch the troops.

The federal government oversees the District of Columbia National Guard.

Can he federalize the cops? There will be litigation, I fear.

Taking over the local cops and giving them backup.

It will work.

Thugs in danger.

Need it in other big cities.

Might not just be about DC. Might be a test case.

use eminent domain to seize all residential property in DC, and then expel every person who lives there from DC. DC is for government buildings only, not a place for people to live.

DC is federal government territory so he can take over.
The other big cities are not.

Good. The dems have allowed crime to go totally out of control in the district.

I did a search on google and on bing: “dc crime out of control”
Both have had their results manipulated so they contradict Trump. You cannot trust the search engines.
I’m going to try an AI.

Here’s what one AI said:
D.C. has nearly 9 times the violent crime rate of NYC per capita.

Its homicide rate is over 6 times higher, placing it among the most violent jurisdictions in the U.S.

NYC, despite its size, maintains a relatively moderate violent crime rate, especially compared to other large cities.

This is what I voted for.

We have an entire generation of people/kids, who need to see what this country used to be like and what it can be again, instead of a steady diet of anarchy and chaos to the point where it’s normal for them.

I’m not a lawyer, but I think that, if the courts block his direct takeover, he could turn to Congress for a joint resolution or targeted bill explicitly authorizing federal control of the MPD.

Congress has plenary constitutional authority over the District of Columbia, so it can override the D.C. Home Rule Act at any time. Such a measure could define “public emergency” more broadly or create a standing presidential authority for certain crime thresholds. If passed, it would remove most legal uncertainty around the action.

I think that would be considered human trafficking. They should build a large facility in DC to hold them. I’m not sure what else they can do.

A few radicals will complain, but this is long overdue, and deep down, everyone knows its

Despite all the money of Fed.gov flowing through DC, its become ungovernable in places because of worship of the DEI, Woke, neo-marxist race cult.

It looks like a 3rd world capital - rich suburbs and a few nice/protected areas (in Northwest) with the rest being under the control of gangs, thugs and homeless.

Fun fact: Since 2023, noncitizens can vote in local DC elections. And that includes the election for mayor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_of_Columbia_home_rule#Non-citizen_voting

The Founders never put a requirement in the Constitution that only citizens can vote in American elections. I suppose that was because it was obvious. Pity that the Founders could not anticipate the insanity of today’s Democrats.
