Former first lady Michelle Obama on Thursday slammed President Donald Trump and those who rioted in the U.S. Capitol, saying they “desecrated the center of American government.” “Like all of you, I watched as a gang — organized, violent, and mad they’d lost an election — laid siege to the United States Capitol,” Obama wrote in a statement shared to social media. “They set up gallows. They proudly waved the traitorous flag of the Confederacy through the halls. They desecrated the center of American government.” Link“[O]nce authorities finally gained control of the situation, these rioters and gang members were led...

I keep hearing conflicting reports about a DC officer's death. Was he hit by a fire extinguisher? Was he returning to the station and suffered a stroke? Is he dead? Is he on life support? Does any media outlet anywhere have an accurate report?

Yesterday, January 6th (the official day of Epiphany) was quite and epiphany of its own,. Currently in our country we are dramatically and almost evenly divided. The huge crowd that gathered yesterday was largely peaceful and came to express concerns about the conducting of the last election. Fine; and probably worth further investigation. But the rioters who broke into the Capital acted immorally and deserve the same condemnation as those who rioted in the racial demonstrations of the summer. Legitimate grievances do not allow the endangerment of life, the destruction of property, or the desecration of sacred or special places.None...

Parapapaaa! Sound the field trumpets, the cavalry’s arrived. Well, the Army at any rate – and not a moment too soon. Brigadier Phil Prosser of the 3rd Division was introduced at yesterday’s Downing Street press conference as the man in charge of rolling out the vaccine. And thank goodness for that. The Brig certainly inspired confidence. Towering over the Prime Minister, here stood a man who clearly Gets. Things. Done. Granite jaw. Thousand-yard stare. Haircut you could time your watch to. Judging by his no-nonsense manner, I’d say a fair few corporals have felt the short sharp sting of his...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they weren't military personnel who were set on fire but rather uniformed police officers, and I think these police officers were retreating at the time this occurred. And compare/contrast that with Biden's now broad brush stroke of calling Trump supporters "domestic terrorists".

The FBI released a photo of a person suspected of placing two homemade bombs at the Democratic and Republican national committees’ headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Along with providing the suspect’s photo, the federal agency announced Thursday night that it is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to a conviction in the case. The homemade improvised explosive devices were found at the headquarters of the political parties as a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol. The FBI in their release described the devices as “suspected pipe bombs.” In the photo released by the FBI, the suspect,...

Images of a mob of Donald Trump supporters surging past overwhelmed police to storm the US Capitol have shocked the world. Many have also asked why they bare such a stark contrast to the heavy police presence and violent tactics deployed when Black Lives Matter protesters took to the streets of Washington DC last year. "This is a complete disgrace. Over the summer we saw federal law enforcement use tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber bullets on Black Lives Matter protesters without provocation. Where are the riot squads now? Are they standing down as white supremacists attempt a coup?" asked...

Just past midnight Thursday after one of the more surreal days in U.S. history, NBC News presidential historian Michael Beschloss all but donned a tinfoil hat on MSNBC to offer some utterly unhinged conspiracy theories, all cheered by 11th Hour host Lyin’ Brian Williams. Over the course of 11 and a half minutes, Beschloss suggested U.S. Capitol Police wanted and ensured violence took place inside the Capitol building, ruled he’s too scared to sleep at night, predicted President Trump will declare martial law, and use nuclear weapons before leaving office.

The fact that scores of conservatives and Republicans have come out and condemned both the violence at the Capitol, as well Donald Trump himself, is apparently lost on MSNBC. Rachel Maddow on Wednesday night smeared the entire GOP as “fascist,” “violent, insurrectionist party.” Joy Reid mocked Republican condemnations, saying they “don’t matter.” But first, Maddow slimed, “I mean the idea that the Republican Party is going to somehow defy the label of being a violent, insurrectionist party with fascist markers is hard to see when their internal discipline is stern speeches and no rebukes.”

The president of Chicago’s police union came to the defense of the pro-Trump rioters who stormed the Capitol Wednesday, arguing that referring to the the demonstrators as “treasonous” is “beyond ridiculous and ignorant.” In a phone interview Wednesday evening with Chicago public radio station WBEZ, John Catanzara, who leads the city’s Fraternal Order of Police, claimed that the riots, which led to four deaths and many more injuries, was the result of “a bunch of pissed-off people that feel an election was stolen, somehow, some way.” “There was no arson, there was no burning of anything, there was no looting,...

Shellshocked Republicans on Thursday said President Trump’s grip on the party is significantly weaker after he incited a mob to attack the Capitol, but some questioned whether their party would be free of his hold anytime soon. The challenges to Trump are clearly mounting. There is chatter his Cabinet could invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him, an idea favored by at least one GOP lawmaker. Tensions between Trump and his long loyal vice president are clear, and there is evident anger in the Senate GOP with the president. National Republicans interviewed by The Hill said Trump may have permanently...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump’s top communications regulator said on Thursday he did not object to decisions by Facebook and Twitter to block the president from their social media platforms. “Given the circumstances that we saw yesterday... I’m not going to second-guess those decisions,” Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai told C-SPAN on Thursday, according to a recording of the interview seen by Reuters. Asked if Trump bore responsibility for the violent actions Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters, Pai said “it was a terrible mistake to suggest that the results of the election, and particularly...

The Chinese province of Hebei announced it was shifting to “wartime mode” against an outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus and locked down travel between its capital Shijiazhuang and the nearby city of Beijing on Wednesday. “Hebei reported 20 new confirmed COVID-19 [Chinese coronavirus] cases and 43 asymptomatic cases on Tuesday, making it the place with the most daily newly added cases in China. Among all the cases, 19 confirmed ones and 41 asymptomatic ones are from Shijiazhuang,” China’s state-run Global Times reported. Shijiazhuang has a population of about 11 million. The emergency restrictions imposed on Shijiazhuang included “controls on highways...
