Robert H. Shmerling, MD Senior Faculty Editor, Harvard Health Publishing Do you know your BMI? Increasingly, people know theirs, just as they know their cholesterol. If you don’t know your BMI, you can use a BMI calculator available online, including this one at Harvard Health Publishing. All you need is your height and weight. Or, you can calculate it yourself, using this formula: BMI = (Weight in Pounds x 703) / (Height in inches x Height in inches). So, now that you know your BMI, is it worth knowing? What are you going to do with it? What your BMI...

CONWAY, Ark. — The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed suit against The Kroger Company for violating federal civil rights law in that an Arkansas location allegedly fired two employees who sought religious accommodations not to wear an apron with a rainbow heart on the bib, symbolizing homosexual and bisexual pride. “Although [Lawson and Rickerd] personally hold no animosity toward the individuals who comprise the LGBTQ community, the practices of that community violate [their] sincerely held religious belief,” the lawsuit states, according to the Miami Herald. “[Lawson and Rickerd] believed wearing the logo showed [their] advocacy of the...

A recently leaked phone call between then-Vice President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko directly after the 2016 presidential election shows that Biden sought to sabotage the incoming Trump administration before Donald Trump even took office, and much worse. During the course of the call, Biden badmouthed the incoming administration, saying, “The truth of the matter is that the incoming administration doesn’t know a great deal about [Ukraine]” and that they were unprepared for the transition. This in itself is inappropriate, but it was meant to set the stage for Biden’s next statement and future plans.

Leaked emails between the senior adviser to Nashville's Mayor and a health department official reveal a disturbing effort to conceal extremely low coronavirus cases emanating from bars and restaurants, while the lion's share of infections occurred in nursing homes and construction workers, according to WZTV Nashville. On June 30th, contact tracing was giving a small view of coronavirus clusters. Construction and nursing homes causing problems more than a thousand cases traced to each category, but bars and restaurants reported just 22 cases. Leslie Waller from the health department asks “This isn’t going to be publicly released, right? Just info...

Colin Kaepernick is right about one thing—the NFL’s new social justice messaging campaign is best described as “propaganda.†Kaepernick’s dissatisfaction with the league’s explicitly pro-Kaepernick efforts, however, should be a major lesson for other woke capitalists. Absolutely nothing short of dismantling the capitalist system will satisfy their detractors.Corporations can go to great lengths to mollify critics, but those critics will never be pleased because their worldview is ultimately rooted in radical anti-capitalism. Mark Cuban, for instance, should recognize that Kaepernick and the leaders of Black Lives Matter do not see him or Roger Goodell as allies, no matter how...

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden admitted that while he believes that he would have the legal authority as president to implement a nationwide mask mandate, he “can’t guarantee you that yet.” Speaking to reporters Wednesday in Wilmington, Del., the former vice president remarked that “there is a question” that he believed “can be answered in the positive” over “whether I can mandate over state lines that every single state has to comply.” Biden made the comments after being asked by a CNN reporter how he would implement a national mask mandate. “Our legal team thinks I can do that, based...

A watchdog group is requesting that media outlets release their plans for election night coverage amid heightened scrutiny over vote counting and the prospect that a winner in the presidential race may not be named until days after Election Day. The (*SELF DESCRIBED*) National Task Force on Election Crises, a group of election experts and academics, released a letter Thursday that it sent to The Associated Press, Fox News and the National Election Pool, which includes the three broadcast networks and CNN, urging them to explain to the public how they intend to incorporate the expected avalanche of mail ballots...

Former President Barack Obama will release the first volume of his memoir Nov. 17, two weeks after Election Day. The 768-page book, “A Promised Land” will cover the 44th president’s historic rise to the White House and first term in office. “I’ve spent the last few years reflecting on my presidency, and in ‘A Promised Land’ I’ve tried to provide an honest accounting of my presidential campaign and my time in office: the key events and people who shaped it; my take on what I got right and the mistakes I made; and the political, economic, and cultural forces that...

Alligators were seen lurking in floodwaters in Alabama after Hurricane Sally dumped more than four months of rain in four hours after it lumbered ashore on Wednesday with 105mph winds and left at least one person dead. The death happened in Orange Beach, Alabama, according to Mayor Tony Kennon, who also said that one person was missing. Kennon said he couldn't immediately release details. At least 50 people were rescued from flooded homes and taken to shelters, Kennon said. 'We got a few people that we just haven’t been able to get to because the water is so high,' the...

Some years ago, while flying back to Seattle from Washington, D.C., I sat next to a young marine, who, as we were landing, asked if I would permit him to accompany me to my shuttle, as he “had a personal matter that was weighing heavily” on his heart. While being in our nation’s capital I had already come into contact with many soldiers, all of whom I personally thanked for their service to our country, and all of whom were young enough to be my grandchildren. The young marine reached out to me, not unlike I had with my grandfather,...

To become one of the six-year-old girl’s two legal mothers, the 51-year-old transgender woman would have to adopt her, the Cour de Cassation ruled. Born male, the applicant was recognised as a woman by French authorities in 2011. She then had a child with her wife in 2014, having not undergone the operation to have her male reproductive organs removed. She has fought ever since to be recognised as the child’s second mother, not father. In 2018, an appeals court in the city of Montpellier ascribed her the status of “biological parent”, a new category. But the Cour de Cassation...

Comedian Chris Rock will tell you that the "pandemic crowds" are the best kinds of audiences. “Dude, not only do we want to be here, there is nothing else to do," Rock explained to the New York Times in a recent interview. "There’s nothing else to watch. Thank you.” And so he found himself in front of one of these enthusiastic pandemic crowds when he performed a gig at one of Dave Chappelle's live shows in July. As he explained to the Times, his set focused mainly on American politics. And conservatives are eating up Rock's message for House Speaker...

The Michigan secretary of state misprinted the Trump line on ballots intended to be mailed to troops serving overseas, the Detroit News reported. Jocelyn Benson, who has endorsed President Trump’s rival, Joe Biden, and spoke at the recent Democratic National Convention (DNC), made the apparent error. The ballot listed Jeremy Cohen as Trump’s running mate. Cohen is running for vice president on the libertarian ticket with Jo Jorgensen. The name of the incumbent vice president, Mike Pence, was omitted altogether. Jorgensen’s line lacked a running mate, thus creating three errors on the ballot. Over 400 incorrect ballots were downloaded from...

For evangelical Christians, it is difficult to look at major developments in the Middle East without wondering about biblical prophecy. Should we rejoice over the historic peace treaty between Israel and the UAE and Bahrain? Or is this leading to a dangerous, false peace that will only hasten the reign of the antichrist? Let’s first recognize just how historic this peace treaty actually is. For 30 years, from 1948 until 1978, not a single Middle Eastern nation made peace with Israel. It was not until 1979 that Egypt made that historic move, ultimately factoring into the assassination of the courageous...

Prayers up for all the families suffering from the impact of this virus. And we're praying that the spread continues fading and that an effective treatment and vaccine are developed before the next flu season starts. And we pray that our people are able to go back to work in greater and greater numbers as the great Trump economy comes roaring back. And I believe we the people are going to tire real soon about the democrats allowing the radical leftist revolutionary blackshirt/brownshirt squads of their party using violent organized fascist tactics to rampage, riot and burn our once beautiful...
