"In May, we are going to be doing more testing in this country," Admiral Brett Giroir promised at Monday's coronavirus task force briefing in the Rose Garden. States with the least amount of testing will double the overall amount per capita that South Korea has done in four months, he said. That includes 20 million swabs scattered among the states. ABC's Jonathan Karl asked the task force about a promise they made on March 13 that the government would be drastically increasing drive up testing sites. By his count, he said, only 69 of those test sites had been set...

Now we know why patients are being diagnosed with COVID-19 even if they haven't been tested, why the official cause of death for deceased patients is COVID-19 even if they weren't tested and/or if the cause of death was something else, and why countless patients are put on ventilators despite poor outcomes and less invasive options for certain patients. According to a report at The Daily Wire, hospitals are reimbursed more for patients with a diagnosis code for COVID-19.  And patients on ventilators bring in even more money.  A lot more. Hospitals get paid more money if a patient is coded for the...

WASHINGTON - A group of top American scientists backed by billionaires and industry titans says it has the answer to the coronavirus pandemic, and has delivered a report to the White House through backdoor channels. The scientists compiled a confidential 17-page report that suggests a number of unorthodox measures to combat the coronavirus, including the use of powerful drugs that were intended to be used against Ebola in far heftier doses than tried in the past, reported The Wall Street Journal. Specific recommendations made by the group, such as slashing manufacturing regulations and requirements for specific coronavirus drugs, have already...

If you’re still clinging to the things of this world, my advice is to surrender now. Don’t go kicking and screaming into the kingdom He’s prepared for us. But seeing all these things happening around you stand up and lift up your head because your redemption is drawing near. Remember, this is not a surrender into defeat. This is a surrender into victory.

If a railroad locomotive is an iron horse, then a vast herd of them has been put out to pasture in Salt Lake City. They’re lined up, nose to tail, waiting to go nowhere — at least for now. By some estimates as many as 200 railroad engines — each one costing about $3 million — have been sidelined over the last year or so in a Union Pacific rail yard just north of downtown Salt Lake City. And it has nothing at all to do with the new coronavirus. A company spokeswoman for Union Pacific refused to answer detailed...

John posted the compelling video of Drs. Dan Erickson and Artin Massihi in “A report from the front lines” over the weekend in two parts. At the time John posted the videos, they had more than 2,000,000 views. The doctors decried California’s COVID-19 related lockdown in particular on medical and economic grounds. Part 1 carried the heart of the doctors’ remarks in about 50 minutes. Drs. Erickson and Massihi are the proprietors of Accelerated Urgent Care in Bakersfield, Fresno, and Temecula. Their remarks were based on their experience dealing with the virus in Kern County. They focused on their own...

The Denver Police Department arrested Jafar Partowmah on April 26 at the Capitol for openly carrying a firearm. The man was carrying two pistols. He is a permitted carrier. He was on the sidewalk and not starting anything. He was not brandishing or threatening. His shirt blew in the wind and the cops saw his weapon. He was arrested around 2 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lincoln Street. A protest was held at the Capitol Sunday because of the COVID-19 closures. Facing fierce blowback, House Democratic leadership announced Tuesday the House will not resume session next week as planned because of risks associated with the coronavirus pandemi c. Majority Leader Steny Hoyer declared the sudden about-face a day after a lawmakers revolted. He said after discussions with the Capitol physician, the risk was too great. The physician has privately warned senior lawmakers it will be at least a year before Congress can return to business as usual. “We will not come back next week,” Hoyer told reporters on a conference call. “But we hope to come back very soon.” Hoyer, D-Md.,...

The hottest thing on Capitol Hill right now, that is, before Adam Schiff kicks off his next impeachment inquiry over the Administration’s response to Wuhan virus, is a proposal for the federal government to bail out state governments for lost revenue. This revenue, mind you, was lost because most governors were stampeded into shutting down their state’s economy in the fanciful hope of preventing the spread of a virus that, outside of New York, looks neither spreadable nor dangerous. The letter followed a similar plea a month earlier from 20 Republican governors — including many Trump allies such as Govs....

The corporate moguls in control of Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter have all promised to censor users "who try to spread misinformation about COVID-19 and undermine the government's policy of shelter in place," said creepy Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. "Posts that try to minimize the threat of the virus or spur opposition to the lockdowns intended to fight the contagion will be removed. The collective well-being of all depends upon unanimous obedience to the directives our government has issued. If we let a trickle of dissent go unchecked the entire dike holding back disaster may crumble." YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki was...

Over the last few weeks, the country has managed to stabilize the spread of the coronavirus sufficiently enough to begin debating when and in what ways to “reopen,” and to normalize, against all moral logic, the horrifying and ongoing death toll — thousands of Americans dying each day, in multiples of 9/11 every week now with the virus seemingly “under control.” The death rate is no longer accelerating, but holding steady, which is apparently the point at which an onrushing terror can begin fading into background noise. Meanwhile, the disease itself appears to be shape-shifting before our eyes.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—While President Trump and some Republican governors are pushing to reopen the country soon, Democrats are much more cautious as they see a looming disaster if America ends the shutdown early: Trump getting credit for a growing economy. “Right now, we have record joblessness, and GDP is certainly going to take a huge hit,” said Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. “That’s exactly what you want in an election year when you’re running against an incumbent. If we reverse that too soon, we’re basically helping Trump’s reelection.” “If we reopen now, it could be an absolute disaster,” added Senate...

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey says she will allow for the reopening of the state’s economy through a phased-in approach starting at 5 p.m. Thursday. The easing of restrictions comes under a new “Safer at Home” order that runs through May 15, replacing the governor’s stay-at-home order that will be allowed to expire on April 30. Ivey says the state is encouraging people to stay home and follow good sanitation practices in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, but that some businesses may reopen with conditions attached. The news of the economic easing comes despite there being...

The White House has told government agencies to start preparing for the transition should Donald Trump lose to Joe Biden in November as Democrats worry the president won't cooperate with a handover should one become necessary. Russell Vought, acting director of the White House's Office of Management and Budget, issued a memo on Monday ordering 20 different agencies to appoint a transition director by Friday, in accordance with the Presidential Transition Act. Each agency's director will make up the Agency Transition Directors Council, which will meet on May 27, Vought wrote.

The M240 SLR from Ohio Ordnance Works is an excellent replica of the M240 light machine gun, and it is a pleasure to shoot. Variants of the M240 general-purpose light machine gun may have earned a reputation for ruggedness and reliability on the battleï¬elds of Iraq and Afghanistan, but this 7.62x51mm NATO belt-fed beauty has provided U.S. Army and Marine Corps infantryman with hard-hitting ï¬repower since the 1990s. And, although the weapon is heavier and more complicated than the Vietnam-era M60-series light machine guns it replaced, those drawbacks are far outweighed by the simple fact that it works much better....

Steve Bullock was the lame-duck governor of solidly red Montana, fresh off a failed Democratic presidential bid, when he pivoted and announced he’d challenge Republican Sen. Steve Daines for his seat. Days after announcing his candidacy last month, the first coronavirus cases appeared in Montana. That shifted the spotlight onto Bullock as he leads the state’s pandemic response, leaving Daines in the unusual position of a sitting senator competing for attention. “I look forward to when I can spend more time thinking about the campaign and doing that work,” Bullock said last week. Right now he’s making sure “lives are...

Dear Governor Inslee, Thank you for your announcement reopening most fishing and hunting in Washington starting May 5. That provides welcome relief about when we can get back to some of our favorite spring activities. However, and while in no way do we wish to risk public health, we call on you to help fast track reinstating ocean fishing to, at the very least, private boats by working with coastal communities to ensure that that is possible in a safe manner. Our state – with its variety of fish and wildlife and vast array of state lands and water access...

...Including nursing home deaths in overall COVID-19 data can paint a misleading picture of coronavirus risk if those figures are extrapolated and applied to the larger society. For example, researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital recently conducted antibody tests on 200 random members of the general public in Chelsea, Massachusetts. They found 32 percent of those tested had antibodies, which suggested that about 12,800 people in the city had been infected, of which 41 died, an infection fatality rate of about 0.3 percent. Yet of those 41 victims, 27 were residents of just two of the city’s nursing homes — accounting...
