The coronavirus has canceled April Fools’ Day. Countless businesses and websites have decided to forego pranks this year. Meanwhile, a handful of countries have even outlawed jokes related to the coronavirus. Such steps are arguably justified, seeing as how we’re living in a time of unprecedented panic and hysteria. However, canceling April Fools’ is sad indictment of how society, in an age of mass digital media, has lost the ability to separate fact and fiction.

Click above for a video excerpt from The Ecclesiastical History of Evagrius describing a personal encounter with the dreaded Plague of Justinian. The thought of pandemic troubles many souls these days. It is well to keep in mind that as bad as things may seem with regard to the deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, we are not even within shouting distance of the type of utter and absolute societal devastation caused by the typical catastrophic historical plague. One of these epic pestilential events was the so-called Plague of Justinian of the mid-to-late 6th century AD. Erupting in AD 542,...

China's "wet markets" have reopened - selling bats, pangolins and dogs for human consumption. The move is dangerous as scientists believe that the Covid-19 causing coronavirus first lurked in a bat in China and hopped to another animal, before getting passed on to humans. Various reports suggest that a 55-year-old man from China's Hubei province could have been the first person to have contracted Covid-19 through one such "wet market". "The markets have gone back to operating in exactly the same way as they did before coronavirus," Washington Examiner quoted a correspondent of "A Mail on Sunday" as saying. However,...

The worldwide spread of the coronavirus, which originated from communist China, has brought serious detriment to Beijing’s credibility and image as a global leader. Through a series of public relations campaigns, Beijing had hoped not only to repair its credibility, but also to come out of this pandemic even stronger by casting itself as the only reliable global leader. However, Beijing’s absurd blame game and a number of faulty exported products may destroy this hope.As more than 1 billion people worldwide...
