Pet cat becomes 2nd to test positive for coronavirus after its owner infected in Hong Kong

A pet cat has tested positive for coronavirus in Hong Kong, in only the second such case in the world. The city's Agricultural and Fisheries department said the cat was tested after its owner was confirmed as having the virus. 'The cat had diarrhoea, kept vomiting and had breathing difficulties. The researchers found the virus in the cat's faeces,' the country's top virologist said. It is the second cat to test positive after another feline was found to have the virus in Belgium last week. Two dogs have also tested positive, also in Hong Kong, although experts say there is no evidence that pets can spread the virus to humans. (Thought animals couldn't be infected? 'No evidence it cannot transfer' doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.....)

The first of the two dogs infected in Hong Kong was a pomeranian, belonging to a 60-year-old woman who had tested positive for the virus.

The agriculture department said the case was 'likely to be a case of human-to-animal transmission'.

The dog later died after being released from quarantine, officials said.

The second infected dog was a German shepherd living in the Pok Fu Lam area on Hong Kong Island.

The pet was sent into to quarantine along with another mixed-breed dog from the same residence.

Is it WuFlu or Feline Coronavirus?

They are two different bugs.

I would hate for my little buddy to get this thing.

Sure cats might say screw you and turn around and walk away when you tell them to “come here”.

And they are not shy about using you for food.

But it’s about what WE perceive that matters.

And my cat Spaghetti was my best buddy when I was home recovering for many years from an injury.

We would sleep together every night during those dark times.

But we never had children.

Well, yes it does say coronavirus....but there are multiple strains. Since they’re back to selling bats and such for consumption in China...along with dogs, cats, and got knows what else, this is going to start right back again over there.

I never understood how people could get so upset when their pets die. Until our first dog did.

Watched some movie the other day. The one guy is explaining how the bad guy beat up the woman, killed her cat, stalked the woman, raped the woman, killed her, burned her house, etc.

“That guy killed her cat? I’m gonna’ kill him.”

(Something like that anyway).

Today I suspect some reporter from CNN will ask Trump why we’re not testing cats.

Before these two, there was a report in London of a guy who got it and his cat died. But I don’t think the cat was ever tested. Kitten actually. Kitten just coincidently died while his owner was sick with CV.

Stay safe crazy cat ladies.

No evidence? It came from animals. It can return to animals. Especially after the Chinese heathens eat them.

Thank you for stating the obvious. The news makes for fear where it wants and suppresses where it doesn’t. In this case the animals outweigh the people. What’s new?

I hadn't heard about the dog flu. For anyone else curious...

Canine influenza

Vaccine is considered a lifestyle vaccine, and Nobivac's runs about $250. Ouch.

experts say there is no evidence that pets can spread the virus to humans.

How does that logic work?
