The University of Tampa said Saturday that five of its students who traveled together during their spring break recently tested positive for the novel coronavirus. "UT has been notified that five UT students, traveling together and with other UT students during Spring Break, have tested positive for COVID-19," the university said in a tweet on Saturday. The university did not disclose the names of the students, nor where they traveled during the break, which was earlier this month. However, the university added that it "sincerely" wishes the students and others "who may be affected, a full and rapid recovery."

More than 1.5 billion people around the world have been asked or ordered to stay home to slow the spread of coronavirus, but Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is refusing to do the same -- and pointing to New York as a reason why. The Tampa Bay Times reports DeSantis said Monday that New Yorkers are fleeing the state and flocking to Florida to avoid NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s stay-at-home order, a near lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “If you look at what happened in New York, when they did the stay at home order, what did people do?” DeSantis said....

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic games will be postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic, a committee member told USA Today in an interview Monday. "On the basis of the information the IOC [International Olympic Committee] has, postponement has been decided," veteran IOC member Dick Pound told the newspaper. "The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know." The IOC will announce its next steps soon, said Pound, a Canadian former swimming champion. "We will postpone this and begin to deal with all the ramifications of moving this, which...

President Donald Trump hinted in a tweet late Sunday night that his administration is considering reassessing its coronavirus regulations restricting people going to work. "We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself," Trump wrote in all capital letters. “At the end of the 15 day period, we will make a decision as to which way we want to go!” Vice President Mike Pence also signaled a change in tone when he said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is going to issue guidance permitting those exposed to the coronavirus to go back to work earlier by...

House Democrats will introduce a sprawling plan to blunt the economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic as efforts to pass a bill in the Senate hit roadblocks Monday. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said her caucus would unveil legislation Monday “that takes responsibility for the health, wages and well-being of America’s workers.” It would include, according to a statement from the California Democrat: Requirements that corporations getting bailout money shield workers’ wages and benefits, and limits on CEO compensation, stock buybacks and layoffs. Direct payments to Americans, along with expanded paid family and medical leave. Grants and loans to small businesses....

Multiple liberal outlets have capitalized on the coronavirus outbreak to push climate change propaganda. The essential message: Hey, at least pollution is down. The New York Times, Bloomberg News and Axios all published stories touting how the quarantines, restrictions, social distancing policies and business shutdowns are helping climate and reducing pollution. Really.

The International Olympic Committee decided on Monday to postpone the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo due to the coronavirus pandemic, despite wanting to wait to make a decision. Initially the IOC had been firm on wanting to wait until late April before deciding whether the games should be cancelled, postponed or moved. The speed with which the pandemic has escalated forced the committee to act more quickly, however.

Flubros day 5! It’s just the flu, bro. Starting this thread earlier in the day today so that East Coasters can see it more easily. How do you become a flubro (or flubra) and join the caucus? Easy - all you have to do is correctly recognize that Wuhan Chinese flu is not really that dangerous compared to an ordinary flu and the government/media/health care industrial complexes are overblowing things. Swine flu killed 12k in one year a decade ago in the USA and hardly anything got shut down. The economic consequences of this overreach will kill more than this...

House Representatives Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) are proposing to cancel student debt with new legislation aimed at helping borrowers adversely affected by the coronavirus, or COVID-19. The legislation, called the Student Debt Emergency Relief Act, proposes the cancellation of at LEAST $30,000 in outstanding debt, tax-free, and proposes that the Education Department (ED) “immediately assume responsibility” for the monthly payments of borrowers who hold federal loans while suspending involuntary collections or garnishments of wages or federal income tax returns amid the crisis. “During this unprecedented crisis, no one should have to choose between paying their student loan...

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Monday accused President Trump of dithering in the early days of the coronavirus, saying that a “failure of planning and preparation” by the White House has worsened the health and economic crises the nation faces. Speaking from a makeshift studio at his home in Delaware, Biden made his first public remarks about the coronavirus in nearly a week, addressing concerns from some on the left that he has been ceding the spotlight to Trump. “My point is not simply that the president was wrong,” Biden continued. “My point is that the mindset that was...

The U.S. economy is in trouble, and if you can believe it, that trouble isn’t simply the closure of Main Street, the massive number of nationwide layoffs, and the danger of financial crisis we’ve all heard about. As companies run out of cash, pushing them toward insolvency, our country’s business-to-business trust is at risk of coming apart — tearing and ultimately collapsing the delicate system that keeps industries as diverse as farming, chemicals, and aluminum...

A recent French peer review study by renowned infectious disease specialist Dr. Didier Raoult which was published in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents showed promising results in the treatment of COVID-19 with Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ). The French study also showed a significant decrease in “viral shedding,” from patients treated with HCQ. The lower the shedding, the less likelihood that the virus can be communicated to other individuals. As the medical profession evaluates different treatment options, public health officials should adopt early treatment measures with the existing tools at our disposal. HCQ is an inexpensive, safe drug that has been used...

CNN’s Jake Tapper is admitting he knew Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told a lie about President Trump on his Sunday show and he chose to not challenge or correct her. Here’s what happened… Ocasio-Cortez appeared on Tapper’s State of the Union Sunday and repeated the long-debunked lie that Trump described the coronavirus as a “hoax.” After Tapper was criticized online for not challenging or correcting her, he smugly took to Twitter and admitted he chose to allow her to lie to his audience, and then bizarrely blamed Trump for his own moral lapse. “I thought about it, because the president...
