The International Olympic Committee decided on Monday to postpone the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo due to the coronavirus pandemic, despite wanting to wait to make a decision.
Initially the IOC had been firm on wanting to wait until late April before deciding whether the games should be cancelled, postponed or moved. The speed with which the pandemic has escalated forced the committee to act more quickly, however.

I was having a good laugh over the commercials NBC was running about the upcoming Olympics.
true the Olympics has become a shadow of its former self but the US has a lot of young track and field stars that I was hoping to watch.....sad for them...hope its only postponed not cancelled...
I wasn’t going to watch it anyway, but it makes sense to keep people from congregating in a large international crowd.

no guarantee that 2021 will work... another virus could roll out next winter... plus the stigma of the chinese virus may still scare off athletes next summer.
I think 2022 is the better choice... the winter olympics are in Beijing and you know those games are gonna happen.

AGREE - even if we have a vaccine before then, we won’t have enough doses to be ready for ‘business as usual’, and that’s the BEST CASE scenario!
