Stuck rationing toilet paper because you didn't stockpile during the coronavirus panic over the last few days? Don't worry, according to supply chain experts. "All the grocery stores are going to have pallets of toilet paper sitting in the aisles and nobody is going to buy it because who needs to buy toilet paper when you got a year's worth sitting in your garage," Daniel Stanton, a supply chain expert and author of "Supply Chain Management for Dummies," tells CNBC Make It. But what about food? Even if the COVID-19 pandemic stretches over months (President Donald Trump said it could...

The numbers:The Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index in March plunged to -12.7 after registering 36.7 in the previous month. That’s the lowest reading since June 2012. Any reading below zero indicates worsening conditions. Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected a 8 reading.

Prince Albert of Monaco has tested positive for coronavirus, the royal palace said today. Authorities in the tiny state said the 62-year-old ruler had been tested for the pathogen at the start of this week. His diagnosis makes him the first known head of state to be infected with the virus. The Mediterranean enclave had confirmed nine cases of the virus in its latest update yesterday. The first was recorded on February 28.

The White House is considering the sale of 25- and 50-year bonds to help finance the fiscal stimulus package aimed at cushioning the economic blow from the COVID-19 outbreak, according to a Bloomberg News report citing sources familiar to the matter. The report briefly sent long-term yields higher, until a sharp surge in initial jobless claims pulled rates lower again. Some investors and analysts have called for the Treasury to issue longer-term debt to take advantage of the current low level of borrowing costs. At the same time, investors say the climb in bond yields this week could complicate the...

A drug developed over half a century ago to treat malaria is showing signs that it may also help cure COVID-19 — especially when combined with an antibiotic, a promising new study reveals. Hydroxychloroquine, sold under the brand name Plaquenil — and also used to treat arthritis and other ailments — was determined to be effective in killing the deadly bug in laboratory experiments, Forbes reported, citing findings published March 9 in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal. Now, French physician-researchers have completed a largely successful clinical trial using the drug — approved for use in the US in 1955 —...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., implored President Donald Trump on Thursday to use his authority to force the mass production of critical supplies that the U.S. is lacking in the fight against the coronavirus. “The president must immediately use the powers of the Defense Production Act to mass-produce and coordinate distribution of these critical supplies before the need worsens and the shortages become even more dire,” Pelosi said in a statement from her district in San Francisco. Pelosi emphasized that the federal government can’t afford to waste time in addressing “shortages of critical medical and personal protective equipment” that she...

Gin distilleries across Britain have switched to making hand sanitiser in a bid to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus. Distilleries from Dundee to London have shifted their production lines to make hand gel after shortages were reported across the country when the virus began to gather speed earlier this month. People across Britain have been advised to regularly wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or to use a hand sanitiser which contains at least 60 per cent alcohol to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There are currently 2,626 cases of coronavirus confirmed...

With empty shelves at grocery stores and businesses and schools closing, it’s understandable that Americans are worried about what the future holds. As someone who worked alongside the professionals and civil servants who are helping manage this crisis, I hope to offer some small comfort to Americans hunkered down in their homes. You may have seen an extraordinary woman named Ambassador Deborah Birx front and center at the president’s recent press conferences. I had the privilege to work with her for over two years and travel with her around the world implementing America’s global HIV program called PEPFR. At President...

A gang of thugs smashed a Sainsbury's shop front in south London in a nighttime raid as supermarkets come under huge pressure amid coronavirus fears. Six men tried stealing alcohol from the New Kent Road store in Elephant and Castle at around 10.50pm yesterday by 'concealing spirits in their clothes'. Police said that Sainsbury's staff confronted the men, who became 'hostile and threatening' and fled outside before trashing the store front. Video shows thugs throwing a blue sign at the glass entry, which shatters. A larger group then runs away, leaving a trail of carnage behind them.

The New Jersey health care worker who was the state’s first coronavirus case says “nobody knows” when he’ll fully recover from the bug — and is struggling with weeks of isolation from his wife and little girl. “I don’t know what’s exactly going on with me,” James Cai, 32, told The Post via text message. Cai — who was initially hit with diarrhea, chest pains and a fever despite having no underlying medical conditions — remained in isolation Tuesday at Hackensack University Medical Center, where he’s been since March 2.

GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan was tipped off by users of the GasBuddy app that the Spur 7 BP in on state route 25 in London had dropped below a buck. Don't head there looking for a deal right now, though, because an employee at the station told Fox News Autos that the price was already 99 cents on Wednesday and that they're currently sold out of fuel and didn't know when the pumps would be open again. Commenters on Gas Buddy say the station is known for its low prices and is often very busy.

Millions of Americans are at risk of contracting a fairly nasty respiratory infection, COVID-19. At times like these it’s a shame consumers have so little control over the medical care they receive and have little chance to avoid surprise medical bills from out-of-network providers gaming our health care system. While most physicians on the frontlines of this pandemic consider COVID-19 their worst nightmare, many others in the medical industrial complex see opportunities. Opportunities to price gouge that is. From labs charging exorbitantly high prices for testing, to hospitals charging outlandish fees for emergency room visits to the surprise medical bills...

The former vice president issued a demand on Wednesday that President Trump invoke the Defense Production Act related to coronavirus recovery products. Biden’s plan says to “prioritize and immediately increase domestic production of any critical medical equipment required to respond to this crisis — such as the production of ventilators and associated training to operate — by invoking the Defense Production Action.”

On January 1st of this year, The Global Times -- that's an English language Chinese propaganda outlet -- reported that eight people had been arrested for spreading "rumors" about a pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan in China. Those rumors were shared by eight physicians. They described the illness on WeChat, a Chinese social media app. Now, it's obvious what they were warning about. During the week of January 11th through January 17th, Wuhan authorities insisted there were no new cases of this mysterious disease. That of course, was a lie and a deadly one. We've got to emphasize that.

Sen. Lindsey Graham is using the coronavirus recovery bills to dramatically expand the award of EB-5 green cards to wealthy Chinese if they lend money to U.S. real estate investors and other companies, according to several activists and Politico magazine. “How can people pushing this not see how politically explosive this is?” said Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies. “An EB-5 increase would almost exclusively benefit Chinese: It is hard to imagine what they are thinking.” The plan by Graham, (R-S.C.) was provided to Politico, which said it would “boost the number of [EB-5] visas offered to...
