Consumers concerned about the survival of their local businesses amid the coronavirus outbreak can now help, through new technology-enabled platforms that allow shoppers to buy for a better future. On Wednesday, online small business lender Kabbage launched a service that allows any business to sign up and sell gift certificates to consumers for future use at their retail locations. Small businesses on the platform can sell gift certificates ranging from $15 to $500. Revenue is then received by the small business within one business day of purchase.

Before the US economy disintegrates into nothingness — Will any so-called expert out there also notice that the WHO Director caused a global coronavirus panic over a basic math error? * * * * * * * * * * The controversial Ethiopian politician and Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, claimed in a press conference in early March that the fatality rate for the coronavirus was many multiples that of the fatality rate of the common flu. This egregiously false premise has led to the greatest economic panic in world history. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/03/hello-world-before-economy-totally-disintegrates-will-anyone-else-notice-who-director-made-basic-math-error-in-causing-global-coronavirus-panic/

Some years ago, I wrote a book titled "The Things That Matter Most." It was a critique of the continuing impact the '60s generation has had on the country. The coronavirus pandemic, too, offers us an opportunity to consider what matters most in our nation and individual lives. We are told to stay indoors, not travel, avoid restaurants and bars and crowds of more than 10 people. Many have been ordered to work from home. Some are being laid off or have had their hours reduced. Entertainment seems limited to the few things worth watching on TV. Rather than lament...
  • German coach Joachim Loew says coronavirus shows that Earth is defending itself from a ‘do everything’ culture

    03/19/2020 8:21:32 AM PDT · by TigerClaws · 21 replies
The coach of the German national men's soccer team is having deep thoughts about the coronavirus pandemic. “The last few days have me very thoughtful,” Joachim Loew said Wednesday via a remote link press conference. “The world has experienced a collective burnout. Not just individuals but everyone.” Loew, who led the German team to World Cup victory in 2014, made the comments a day after the 2020 Euros were postponed until next year due to the virus. “I have the feeling the Earth seems to be defending itself a bit against people who always think that they can do everything...

It’s not every day you see a detailed map of your hometown splashed across the news. Then again, the National Guard was never asked to set up a containment area there — until now.So if you’re wondering what it’s like to have my New York hometown figure prominently in the story of a virus from Wuhan, China? It’s been completely surreal.New Rochelle, New York, is home to about 80,000 people. It’s a small city, but because it sits in New York City’s long shadow, it’s more like a large suburb. I still remember being a teenager and complaining to...

As the Wuhan coronavirus is ravaging countries across the globe, there may be some promising news on the horizon. According to Gregory Rigano, an advisor to Stanford University School of Medicine, a world renowned French researcher tested a promising COVID-19 treatment option with a drug that’s been around for decades and is typically used to treat malaria.  “As of this morning…a well-controlled peer reviewed study carried out by the most eminent infectious disease specialist in the world—Didier Raoult, MD, PhD—out of the south of France, in which he enrolled 40 patients…that showed a 100 percent cure rate against coronavirus," Rigano...

Hillary can’t help it. The woman still smoldering with resentment over her upset in the 2016 presidential election sparked a new round of recriminations on Wednesday with a Twitter post accusing President Donald Trump of racism for accurately labeling the coronavirus plaguing the country as “Chinese” in origin. Stoking divisiveness when the United States needs a unified front against a dangerous enemy is a classic Democrat desperation tactic – whether it’s taking the side of terrorists in the years after 9/11 with incessant, exaggerated complaints about the prison at Guantanamo Bay (still open even after eight years of a Barack...

CARACAS - Venezuelan utilities have hiked fees and the government plans to raise taxes, as the economy deteriorates further due to the spread of coronavirus and the crash in global oil prices adds to the strain on public coffers. Businesses in the South American country have seen surprise increases in monthly bills for services like trash collection, electricity and telephones over the past month. Earlier this week the government announced a 2,900% increase in the unit used to calculate taxes. Venezuela’s annual tax collection has fallen below $2 billion, according to local consultancy Ecoanalitica. President Nicolas Maduro’s socialist government last...

Posted on March 18, 2020 by Msgr. Charles Pope A Lament from Scripture, Well-Suited to the Current Crisis The reading for Tuesday’s Mass (Tuesday of the Third Week of Lent) was astonishingly applicable to our current situation. It also brings up a controversial question: are we experiencing punishment for our sins? The modern world has grown proud; we have largely forgotten our vulnerability. Worst of all, we have collectively cast God aside. In this sense we do not need to directly attribute this chastisement to God. Rather, the deep wound to our own sense of invincibility is itself the...

An atheist that I was dialoging with a while back tried to support his disbelief in Jesus through the use of the “Spiderman fallacy”, which is a contrived argument that has been defined in the following way by Urban Dictionary:(Courtesy of Robin Schumacher)Archaeologists 1,000 years from now unearth a collection of Spiderman comics. From the background art, they can tell it takes place in New York City. NYC is an actual place, as confirmed by archaeology. However, this does not mean that Spiderman existed.Often used to illustrate the flaw in the assertion by evangelical Christians that archaeologists unearthing biblical cities...

As the commercial airline industry grounds itself and travel restrictions bite in the face of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, the private jet alternative is thriving thanks to the insatiable demands of the wealthy and the well-connected. According to AFP, the demand from the super rich has never been stronger. Richard Zaher, CEO of a U.S.-based private jet charter company, told the news service emails and phone calls just keep coming. “Inquiries have gone through the roof,” he told AFP, noting his company Paramount Business Jets had seen a 400 percent increase in queries, with bookings up roughly 20-25 percent. “It...

It would seem that protecting America from crime, disease, and lawlessness is an idea most people could support. In our hyper-polarized, decidedly irrational world, however, that is not the case. Grandstanding politicians openly defy federal immigration laws, while activist judges give them cover by thwarting attempts to restore order. It’s enough to make people ask, when will the law be applied for the good of the American people and the country? To those who ask the above question, here’s some good news: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is utilizing new legal tactics to combat the dangerous effects of illegal...

Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has announced the end to her campaign following continued low placement in national polls, a weak finish during Super Tuesday and subsequent contests and failing to meet the thresholds to participate in the most recent series of Democratic National Committee sponsored debates. The Hawaii congresswoman announced her bid in January 2019. By the time of her departure from the race, the once diverse field of candidates dwindled leaving Gabbard the last person of color, veteran and millennial seeking a bid for the White House.

Biopharma companies have scrambled to start new R&D projects and repurpose existing medicines amid the COVID-19 crisis. Now, Bayer is getting ready to donate an older treatment to the U.S. government for potential use, Axios reports. The company is preparing a large donation of malaria medicine chloroquine, the publication reports, citing a senior HHS official and another unnamed source. The drug is decades old and available for cheap. A Bayer representative didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Just a simple prayer request for family. Dad's (91) death was expected last year after a few years of dementia decline. Mom's (88) death was sort of a shock, even though her heart was weak. She was very clear minded and engaging. She told my sister last week she was dreading the anniversary of Dad's death. Like so many couples, they were very close. It's not uncommon for grief to reunite couples. Both were very strong Christians.

This is a question on a lot of people's minds. Sadly, I won't be able to give an exact date because the actual date will depend on a lot of other things, like if everyone has 237 rolls of toilet paper stashed behind the couch. But we have a good way to talk about it; however, warning, there will be math. Here's the real answer, and no it really doesn't depend on how many rolls of toilet paper you have. The virus will be contained when R0 is less than 1. That's what to look for: R0 < 1. "Fine,"...

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff moved to dismiss a lawsuit seeking access to secretive subpoenas the California Democrat issued for call records he made public during last year’s impeachment investigation of President Trump. His legal team, led by Douglas Letter, the Democratic-led House’s general counsel, told the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Friday that “these requests and subpoenas were integral to the Committee’s inquiry and consistent with its mandate to investigate and issue a report” about whether Trump should be impeached. . . . In their filing on Friday, Schiff's lawyers argued Judicial Watch “has...
