President Trump announced on Wednesday that he will be invoking the Defense Production Act in an effort to help the private sector ramp-up manufacturing and distribution of emergency medical supplies and equipment amid the coronavirus pandemic. The act, which was first enacted in 1950 as a response to the Korean War and has since been re-invoked more than 50 times since, will streamline production of medical supplies to help the country battle the coronavirus pandemic and require businesses to sign contracts or fulfill orders deemed necessary for national defense. “If we need to use it we’ll be using it,” Trump...

If you’d told me just a few weeks ago that Trump Derangement Syndrome had reached the point that prominent American politicians and news media people would be openly rooting for a major pandemic to collapse the financial markets, I would not have believed it. Surely, they would never go THAT far, I would have thought. And then I watched it happen before my eyes. I watched ghouls in human form hoping a virus would kill hundreds, if not thousands of their fellow Americans so the Dow Jones and the NASDAQ would plummet, and this could be used to politically damage...

Posted on March 17, 2020 by Msgr. Charles Pope A Picture of Disease in a Time of Trouble The first reading for Mass on Monday (Monday of the third week of Lent) was striking in its relation to the current time of turmoil. It reminds us of our vulnerability. Despite all our strength, we are individually and collectively in need of tremendous grace and mercy from God. For all our concern about the physical threat of this virus, we should be even more concerned about our spiritual vulnerability. In the reading, from 2 Kings 5, we are told of...

UPDATE: A Covid-19 case correlation between malarial and non-malarial countries has been plotted by Dr. Roy Spencer, and the results are stunning – see below. Encouraging news: three new medical studies show a commonly available anti-malaria drug known as chloroquine aka chloroquine phosphate is showing strong results against COVID-19 infections in both China and South Korea. Excerpts from three studies, including one published in Nature are below.

It might be the best-studied of all our senses, but surprises about the way our vision works just keep on coming. Recent research has startling and also salutary lessons about how we see. Your brain makes up a lot of what you “see” Whether you’re walking around or sitting at a desk, you no doubt feel that you can see pretty clearly all around you. Yes, so you might be looking ahead as you walk through a park, say, but you can see a rich world of grass, trees and people to either side of you. Well, you might be...

“This morning a White House official referred to #Coronavirus as the ‘Kung-Flu’ to my face,” CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang tweeted on Tuesday. “Makes me wonder what they’re calling it behind my back.” As PBS NewsHour correspondent Yamiche Alcindor questioned her about the rhetoric, Conway turned to Jiang, who also stood in the slightly social-distanced press scrum outside the White House and demanded to know which official she was accusing. “Weijia, who was it? Tell us!” When Jiang replied by saying, “I think you understand how these conversations go,” Conway shot back, “No, I don’t know how these conversations go,...

A county in Colorado issued a shelter-in-place order Wednesday in an effort to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus outbreak. San Miguel County’s shelter in place order will be in effect until at least April 3 at the discretion of the public health director, according to the county’s announcement. As part of its mitigation plan, San Miguel officials will also test the entire county for COVID-19. The testing will be offered free of charge and will be administered by the county public health department. “We know just testing is not enough to fight this virus. If we invest in the...

...But don’t think it’s a stretch to say that, lucid or senile, Biden is for certain the Manchurian virus candidate. There’s a reason why Forbes wrote last summer that “Joe Biden Is The Only Man Who Can Save China In 2020” and why the “announcement of his campaign alone was enough to encourage Beijing suddenly to take a harder line on trade negotiations with the Trump administration,” as Senator Tom Cotton recently wrote at National Review. It’s that unlike “many other Democrats, he takes its side, reliably,” writes Cotton. (Certain other Democrats take China’s side only unreliably.) For example, as...

China on Thursday reported no new local infections for the first time since the coronavirus crisis began three months ago, reaching a milestone in its battle with the deadly outbreak that has upended daily life and economic activity around the world. As governments in Italy, the United States and elsewhere grapple with the pandemic, China has hailed its success as evidence of what can be achieved when a vast, top-down bureaucracy that brooks no dissent is mobilized in pursuit of a single target.

Back in January, a cow went on the run after breaking out – and she’s been on the go ever since evading the local police. The crafty cow has been described as being “faster than it looks” and a “talented fence jumper.” And in a very Floridian twist, the cow apparently loves to spend time by pools, so Florida residents are being encouraged to keep a lookout for the bathing beauty in their backyards. The Pembroke Pines Police Department created a wanted poster for the cow, which they later tweeted, along with the caption, “For several months a loose cow...

Here's a thought: While self-quarantining with their families in multimillion-dollar Manhattan co-ops, Wall Street wives ought to have a chat with their Master of the Universe husbands about China, globalism and political correctness. Those are the vectors of their robber-baron wealth. Thanks to “globalism” -- i.e., cheap goods from China -- we’ve gotten many wondrous things, for example: -- Toothpaste on American shelves made with a poison found in antifreeze. -- Toxic Chinese drywall installed in about 100,000 U.S. homes, emitting noxious fumes that destroyed electrical wiring and metal fixtures and sickened homeowners. Replacement of the drywall, pipes and wiring...

I have posted the video of this morning’s daily White House press briefing below. One reporter poses a single question about the Wall Street Journal report concerning Trump’s efforts to overcome regulatory hurdles to therapies (at 43:00). President Trump stated that he hadn’t seen the Journal article but that “we are making a lot of progress therapeutically.” There was no follow-up question on the subject of possible therapies or regulatory relief. (The current version of the Journal story adds that “there w[ill] be a news conference Thursday involving the FDA.”) Two reporters raise hostile questions on the propriety of attributing...

... Texas is a red state with exclusively Republican statewide elected officials, but Houston is in Harris County, which is dominated by Democrats. They run elections there. Harris County Clerk and Chief Election Officer Diane Trautman, a Democrat, was in charge of Super Tuesday’s vote. She ran for office promising to consolidate voting locations so people could cast ballots at “countywide voting centers” rather than at their precincts. Ms. Trautman’s staff gave Republicans and Democrats the same number of machines at Texas Southern, though any rookie would know that site would have a much larger Democratic primary than Republican. Ms....

(CNN) - After a brief stay at Rikers Island, disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is moving to a prison in upstate New York. The former producer has been assigned to the Wende Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison in Alden, New York, an official with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision told CNN. The jail, which is just east of Buffalo, New York, houses more than 950 inmates, including Mark David Chapman, who was convicted of murdering musician John Lennon. Weinstein is expected to stay at Wende for an undetermined period of time while authorities determine...

Cabinet Room3:53 P.M. EDTTHE PRESIDENT: Well, thank you very much. And today I welcome the great nurses of our country to the White House and express our gratitude for those on the frontlines in our war against the global pandemic. And it’s been something, but we’re winning it. We will win. It’s a question of when, and I think it’s going — it’s going to go quickly. We hope it’s going to go quickly. I think we all agree. We’re glad to be joined by Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary Alex Azar, Administrator Seema Verma, Dr. Robert Redfield, and Dr....

United States Rep. Ben McAdams, R-Utah, said he tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday after developing “mild cold-like symptoms” over the weekend. In a written statement, the 4th District representative said he returned to Utah from Washington, D.C. on Saturday evening and consulted with a doctor on Sunday. McAdams said he “immediately isolated” himself in his home and conducted all meetings by telephone. “My symptoms got worse and I developed a fever, a dry cough and labored breathing and I remained self-quarantined,” McAdams said in the statement. On Tuesday, McAdams’ doctor instructed him to get tested for COVID-19. “Today I...

We've known about coronavirus since the 1960s. The coronaviruses HCoV-229E, -NL63, -OC43, and -HKU1 continually circulate in the human population and cause respiratory infections in adults and children world-wide. Do the test differentiate between the wuhan and the numerous other coronas?

The company says it has the resources to produce 50,000 or more of the tests daily from its Salt Lake facility. Each test, according to the company, costs about $10 per patient, delivers results in about 90 minutes and can be processed at most medical labs. During a community leaders call hosted Monday by Utah tech sector advocacy group Silicon Slopes, Co-Diagnostics communication director Seth Egan said his company has already earned approval from the European Union for its test, which uses a sputum sample to look for evidence of COVID-19, but continues to await action from the FDA under...
