It’s cool to have that link. Thanks.
I read the book in the bathtub, on Hallowe’en, sometime in the late 1960s :-)
(The only reading I’ve ever done in the bathtub.)

I can think of a few freepers who would have bought that martians had landed in NJ.

When the current hysteria started, this story was my first thought.

In 1938, Orson Welles was the star of a sci fi radio program, so realistically performed, almost all of America (those with radios in 1938) were convinced we had been attacked by Martians)
Grab a glass of whatever and sit quietly for about an hour ..... THEN listen/watch the story behind the radio broadcast.
True American history.

Heh, Orson Wells said clearly at the start of the broadcast that it was “fake news”.
The MSM in modern times somehow neglects to state the same before their broadcasts.

Believe it or not, we studied this event in high school.

But it didnt bring down the entire US economy. In those days, the US economy was already in the tank.

Hell, from the turn of the century through the 40s, folks around the world were falling for communism, anarchy, Nazism, fascism, etc. Why not Martians?
Heck, they are falling for all that crap now! A lot of folks haven’t learned anything!

Martians! Ahhhhhhhh!

When (if) you listen to The Untold Story, you’ll understand who the American people were then and what they were doing .... almost all tuned in after the intro and began well into “the invasion” ....... they didn’t know it was a program.
