TORONTO -- The CEO of Maple Leaf Foods spoke out Sunday against the U.S. government, days after an Iranian missile accidentally shot down a jetliner, killing all 176 people on board -- including the family of a company employee. Michael McCain said in a series of tweets that the time since Wednesday's crash has not quelled his anger over what he describes as a "needless, irresponsible series of events in Iran.""U.S. government leaders unconstrained by checks/balances, concocted an ill-conceived plan to divert focus from political woes. The world knows Iran is a dangerous state, but the world found a path...

The cabin roof caught fire around 1 or 2 a.m., Tyson Steele said. That’s when the first jolt of terror seized him and spurred him to action. He leapt out of bed, pulled on his felt-lined pac boots, and stumbled out the door. The temperature was 15 degrees below zero, but Steele hardly noticed. Standing outside he looked up at the roof and saw flames lighting the sky. The 30-year-old homesteader figures the date was either December 17 or 18. He’s not certain because he’d been living alone since September in a remote corner of the Susitna Valley. Miles and...

Very, very sad to get the news that Sir Roger Scruton has died of cancer. Details yet to come, but I want to ask your prayers for him and for those who loved him. This past summer, my friend Laura and I visited him at his farmhouse in Wiltshire. I interviewed him for my forthcoming book about what the experience of resisting Soviet-bloc communism has to teach us about resisting the soft totalitarianism emerging today. Sir Roger was strongly supportive of this book, telling me it was urgently important. I feel so humbled by his friendship and encouragement. Sir Roger...

If your home isn’t carbon neutral, Elizabeth Warren might not let you build it. And if that means no new homes get built, she’s OK with that. In an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday, the Massachusetts senator and fading presidential candidate talked about her Thunberg-lite plan to help end climate change. (Climate crisis? Catastrophe? What are we going with these days?) She promised “to do everything a president can do all by herself, that is, the things you don’t have to do by going to Congress.” This includes putting an end to energy mining and drilling on federal...

On the wind-whipped hills north of Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, Berthenid Dasny holds the keys to the gated memorial erected for Haiti's earthquake victims. Thousands of bodies are buried here in a mass grave dug after a magnitude 7 earthquake shook the country on Jan. 12, 2010. "They've forgotten about this place; it should look better than this," Dasny says as she walks past the overgrown grass, rusted metal statues and brittle brush. For the past year, she has been the memorial's groundskeeper, though she has never been paid. "You must remember the humans buried here. They were just like us...

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Democrats are beginning to grow worried that if their impeachment effort fails, they'll have to resort to plan B: nominating an electable candidate and winning an election. "The real danger here," said Nancy Pelosi in a meeting of top Democrats, "is that the normal way of getting rid of a president---impeachment---fails. Then, we'd have to try to find someone who isn't a smug, smarmy doofus and get the public to like them." "What about Andrew Yang? He's pretty nice," said one aide, who was then asked to leave the room for such reckless hate. "I could run for president....

As Isaac and Rebekah struggled to become pregnant, God intervened. During the pregnancy there was a struggle in the womb, and “When she went to inquire about this from the Lord, she received a prediction from Him: Two nations, that is, twin progenitors of two nations, were struggling in her womb and the younger would triumph. Indeed the Israelites (Jacob’s descendants) and the Edomites (Esau’s descendants) fought continuously. God’s election of Jacob the younger over Esau the older was against the natural order. [1] Ancient Near Eastern customs for a family with multiple sons, would be once the father has...

Michael Lee and Angela Peang can hardly wait for the birth of their first child — even if it results in them spending time behind bars. The husband and wife from Eagle Mountain, Utah, are first cousins: Peang’s father is the older brother of Lee’s mother. Since the baby’s existence proves they had sex, they could face up to $10,000 in fines and five years in prison, because intercourse between cousins is illegal in their home state, due to the long-held fear of birth defects. (According to a 2018 Columbia University study, the chances of cousins having a genetic disorder...

A twisted leftist was sentenced on Thursday to 90 days in jail for spitting on a 67-year-old, MAGA-hat wearing Trump supporter in October. The surprising justice meted out to Matthias George Ajple was attributable at least in part because the crime was caught in on camera in living color at Hurricane Grill & Wings in Vero Beach, Florida. The registered Democrat will not only sit and stew in the Indian River County Jail for three months, but he will also serve 12 months on probation, pay a fine of $695, and fork out restitution in the amount of $155 to...

While the Constitution does give the House broad discretion in impeachments, there are limits. The most explicit of these is that impeachment can only be for, “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” (Art. II, Sec. 4, U.S. Constitution) However, the articles for impeachment voted on by this entirely partisan Democratic Congress, which are currently being unconstitutionally withheld from the Senate, charge no such offenses. In fact, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are not crimes of any kind, high or low. Therein lies the real reason why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has refused to send the two...
