Former FBI Director James Comey said Saturday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller did not succeed in his mission due to "inadequate transparency." "He didn't succeed in his mission because there was inadequate transparency to the American people on whose behalf he was investigating," Comey said during the Politicon political conference in Nashville. He said there were two major ways that this "transparency" was lacking: "the way in which his report was spun, massaged and, in my view, misconstrued by the attorney general," and "they way in which it was physically presented made it impossible for the American people to have...

U.K. lawmakers on Oct. 24 debated the escalating tensions in Hong Kong, and whether to give British nationality to residents of the former British colony. Dozens of young Hong Kong supporters watched the debate from the public gallery. Among those at the debate was the last governor of Hong Kong, Chris Patten. He said that, for a dozen or so years, the one country two systems worked well, but in the past few years there’s been a tightening of Beijing’s control over Hong Kong. He described the introduction of the extradition bill as “extraordinarily foolish,” and urged protestors not to...

During the Obama presidency, Biden was the US proconsul for Ukraine, and he was involved in many corruption schemes. He authorised transfer of three billion dollars of the US taxpayers’ money to the post-coup government of the Ukraine; the money was stolen, and Biden took a big share of the spoils. The Ukraine has a few midsize deposits of natural gas, sufficient for domestic household consumption. The cost of its production was quite low; and the Ukrainians got used to pay pennies for their gas. After the 2014 coup, IMF demanded to raise the price of gas for the domestic...

Bill Kristol Tweet: "If John Kelly spoke privately with the ten Republican senators he knows best, and Jim Mattis spoke with the ten senators he’s closest to, and if each told the senators how much he fears for the country with Trump, untrammeled and unhinged, at the helm...Trump would be gone."

After again shutting power to hundreds of thousands this week, California’s utility PG&E disclosed Thursday that it had discovered a broken jumper cable by the ignition site of a wildfire blazing across Sonoma County. The company has warned of more blackouts this weekend and perhaps for the next decade as it refurbishes its aging grid. Gov. Gavin Newsom is trying to deflect political blame. “It’s about dog-eat-dog capitalism meeting climate change. It’s about corporate greed meeting climate change. It’s about decades of mismanagement,” Mr. Newsom declared. But Democrats for years have treated PG&E as their de facto political subsidiary. The...

AN ASTEROID the size of the World Trade Centre is on a dangerous Earth-bound orbit that could see the rock smash the planet during Christmas festivities. The asteroid, known as 216258 2006 WH1, is set for its closest approach to Earth on December 20 - just days before Christmas. The 540 metre space rock is the same size as the World Trade Centre and would cause a significant amount of damage and mass extinction. ... The asteroid hasn’t yet been measured on the Torio Impact Hazard Scale, but will likely be listed as a serious threat when and if it...

An exclusive restaurant in Lima, Peru, has been fined over $60,000 for its practice of giving men and women different menus. La Rosa Nautica, a popular gourmet restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean, provides women with a gold menu without prices while giving men a blue one with the cost details. The Associated Press reported that La Rosa Nautica defended the tradition during legal proceedings. The restaurant’s owners argued that their menus without prices “extoll the position of women, considering it a pleasure for them to enjoy a romantic evening with their partner, without taking into account the cost of the...

For the third consecutive week, a top-10 team fell in stunning fashion and shook up the potential College Football Playoff race. Unranked Kansas State’s 48-41 upset of No. 5 Oklahoma on Saturday follows South Carolina’s upset of Georgia and Illinois’ stunner against Wisconsin in jumbling the top of the rankings. With the Sooner bandwagon toppling over this week, much like its Schooner did last week, Oklahoma will start the CFP rankings well outside the top four. Their loss, combined with Notre Dame’s faceplant at Michigan, shakes up what the initial CFP rankings will look like on Nov. 5. It’s safe...

He’s confused me. Again. Mr. President, that is. Oh, I know some of you like him, but he still confuses me. Like this week, when he said, “We’re building a wall in Colorado. We’re building a beautiful wall. A big one that you can’t get over and you can’t get under.” Now, I’m wondering WHERE in Colorado? Maybe he’s thinking that New Mexico is part of old Mexico, so that’s where the wall will be built. Representative Diana DeGette added to the President’s remarks “And New Mexico will pay for the wall.” I know he came back later and said...

After dozens of House Republicans demanded access to a secure facility in the Capitol on Wednesday where House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., was preparing to depose a Pentagon official, Democrats expressed outrage at the breach of protocol. “They’re doing this because this is what the guilty do,” said Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif. “Innocent people cooperate with investigations. Innocent people follow the rules of the House.” Well, people engaged in impartial investigations aimed at finding the truth don’t violate every precedent and standard of due process set during previous presidential impeachments. Contrast today’s partisan inquiry with the Nixon impeachment....

North Korea said Sunday the United States must not exploit the "close personal relations" between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump as negotiations over Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal remain deadlocked. Talks between Pyongyang and Washington have stalled since a second summit between Trump and Kim in Hanoi in February broke down without an agreement. The two have since blamed each other for the failure of the summit, with the North demanding the US bring forward a "new method" by the end of the year.

October 27 2019 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading 1 Sir 35:12-14, 16-18 The LORD is a God of justice, who knows no favorites. Though not unduly partial toward the weak, yet he hears the cry of the oppressed. The Lord is not deaf to the wail of the orphan, nor to the widow when she pours out her complaint. The one who serves God willingly is heard; his petition reaches the heavens. The prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds; it does not rest till it reaches its goal, nor will it withdraw till the Most High responds,...
