Bernie Sanders has unveiled his own version of the Green New Deal which expands upon the one promoted by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and includes some actual dollar figures. The grand total associated with this plan, according to Sanders, is $16.3 trillion dollars. But Sanders claims all of that would be paid for in fifteen years from a combination of new taxes and cuts in other government spending. Sanders’ plan is quite expansive but here are some of the noteworthy goals: No more fossil fuels: “Reaching 100 percent renewable energy for electricity and transportation by no later than 2030 and complete...

Syrian army advances in northwest Syria are putting Turkish troops in the firing line and threaten Ankara's hopes of preventing a new wave of refugees on its southern border. The offensive around Idlib, the last major rebel stronghold in Syria, has already forced tens of thousands of civilians to flee towards Turkey. It has also cut off a Turkish military post deep inside Syria as the deal to limit fighting in the region, which the Turkish troops were supposed to be monitoring, collapses. The breakdown of that deal would be a significant blow to President Tayyip Erdogan, who has steered...

An Obama-appointed federal judge is forcing Wisconsin taxpayers to provide costly sex reassignment surgery and hormonal procedures for low-income transgender residents who get free medical care from the government. In a recently issued ruling U.S. District Judge William M. Conley writes that Medicaid, the publicly funded insurance that covers 65.7 million poor people, cannot deny the medical treatment needs of those suffering from “gender dysphoria.” Officials estimate it will cost up to $1.2 million annually to provide transgender Medicaid recipients in the Badger State with treatments such as “gender confirmation” surgery, including elective mastectomies, hysterectomies, genital reconstruction and breast augmentation....

President Donald Trump, who recently embraced the title of "King of Israel," has been repeatedly accused of promoting anti-Semitic tropes this week for his assertions that Jewish Americans who vote for Democrats are "disloyal."

Overstock CEO Partick Byrne resigned from the e-commerce company Thursday after making controversial comments about his role in the “deep state.” Shares of Overstock popped as much as 17% after being halted for the news. Shares were up about 9% in the afternoon. “In July I came forward to a small set of journalists regarding my involvement in certain government matters. Doing so was not my first choice, but I was reminded of the damage done to our nation for three years and felt my duty as a citizen precluded me from staying silent any longer,” Byrne said in a...

Sorry to be so obvious, but isn’t it clear that what the United States needs is a Democratic Richard M. Nixon? No, not that one. We’ve had plenty of truth-bending, political dirty tricks and abuse of authority from both political parties over recent years. I’m thinking of the “other” Nixon, the one who longed for a place in history and whose shrewd instinct for the political center produced: the Environmental Protection Agency; arms talks with the same Soviet Union he had built a career on denouncing; wage and price controls that violated every canon of his party’s philosophy; and, of...

Top House Democrat calls on Donald Trump's family to 'engineer a clinical intervention' saying 'this guy is having a complete and total meltdown' after president called himself The Chosen One and the Second Coming Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is chair of the House Democratic caucus He said he hopes the Trump family has the 'good sense' to do 'intervention' President Trump Wednesday called himself the 'chosen one' to take on China He retweeted a conspiracy theorist who said Israeli Jews consider him the 'second coming' and the 'King of Israel' He also blasted 'nasty' comments by the Danish prime minister for...

There will be much to learn in Inspector General Michael Horowitz's upcoming report on the Trump-Russia investigation, but most of it will likely boil down to just two questions. One, how much did the Obama Justice Department spy on the Trump campaign? And two, was it justified? Many Democrats would immediately protest the word "spying." But the public already knows the FBI secured a warrant to wiretap low-level Trump adviser Carter Page a few months after Page left the campaign. The public also knows the FBI used informant Stefan Halper to gather information on other Trump campaign figures. And the...

U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III is facing sharp liberal blowback for eyeing a U.S. Senate seat still held by a relatively popular incumbent who has been fighting for decades for environmental and progressive causes. The 38-year-old grandson of the slain Robert F. Kennedy floated a trial balloon that targeted Sen. Edward Markey in his quest to move up the political ladder, but a building backlash could quash those hopes. “I don’t think Kennedy would be doing himself any favors by running at this point,” said Craig Altemose, executive director of The Better Future Project and a prominent voice in the...

A federal prosecutor in Pennsylvania blamed DA Larry Krasner for a bloody standoff, but the suspect has a long relationship with the government that includes a sentence reduction because of his cooperation. U.S. Attorney William McSwain quickly blamed Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner for the August 14 shooting of six police officers who were trying to serve a warrant. In a statement released less than 24 hours after the standoff ended in North Philadelphia, McSwain, the U.S attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, said the shooting was “precipitated by a stunning disrespect for law enforcement” that was “championed” by...

Starting next week and continuing into October, you might see people carrying laptops walking through your neighborhood and knocking on doors. They’re what the Census Bureau calls “listers” — census workers charged with making sure the bureau has a complete list of all addresses as it prepares for its massive population count next year. It’s the first major field operation of the 2020 Census. Starting next Monday, Aug. 19, listers will begin verifying the remaining 35% of addresses that need double-checking, using maps and a list of known addresses on a laptop. Mostly, they will be checking to see whether...

The Dutch-language AT5 reports, August 19, 2019, that returning from vacation last week, Salih Ozcan, a businessman in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, got a big surprise. First, he found piles of garbage in front of his business property in Westpoort, a borough of Amsterdam. Inside was an even worse surprise. Some 40 “migrants” of We Are Here — a group of failed or refused asylum seekers — were squatting inside the property that Ozcan intends for his car company. He had first rented out the space, but “a bad tenant” used it for growing weed. After he evicted...

BAILEY, Colo.- The search for a mountain lion continues after it attacked an 8-year-old boy in Bailey Wednesday night. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says the child was playing on a trampoline in his yard when he heard a friend calling from down the street. As he ran towards his friend's home, the mountain lion pounced, grabbing the boy by the head. The boy's brother was also outside and heard a commotion. He ran to his father and told him something didn't sound right. His father rushed down the street and found the mountain lion on top of his son. The...

The wild chestnuts around this leafy college town used to grow in such great numbers that locals collected the nuts by the bushel and shipped them off to New York City for a small fortune. These days, though, it can be hard to find a single tree thanks to a devastating blight imported from Asia in the late 1800s.

On August 22, AD 392, an unlikely man was raised to the imperial purple of the Western Roman Empire. His name was Eugenius and for most of his career up to that point, he had been an academic serving the Western imperial court. The pagan historian Zosimus, writing in the early 6th century AD, describes Eugenius’s early career and his path to power: There was in the court a person named Eugenius, a man of learning, who was a professor and teacher of rhetoric. He had been recommended to the notice of Arbogastes by Rictomeris as a person of a...

Contractors began replacing border fencing along a two-mile stretch of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument this week, the first of three projects that will add 30-foot high "bollard" walls along three of Southern Arizona's wildlife refuges. In photos shared with TucsonSentinel.com, construction vehicles and staged piles of steel beams were sitting along a recently bladed 60-foot-wide stretch of earth on the wildlife refuge near Lukeville, Ariz... TucsonSentinel.com reported last week that construction was to begin Monday, despite headlines in other news outlets that the work had been "delayed." The project is a further sign that Trump administration officials are...

VIDEO On the night of July 29, 2019 the forces of Nature aligned in such a way as to provide an absolutely stunning series of intense lightning strikes that ran along a line of about 150 miles long from the south end of Lake Okeechobee almost to the tip of the Florida peninsula. This storm lasted for over 3 hours from about 8 to 11:30 PM and for most of that time the frequency of the lightning strikes maintained its high intensity. I originally uploaded almost 24 minutes of this lightning storm which I was able to view over a...

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently trashed the electoral college on her Instagram Live, saying that the system used to determine the president of the United States every four years is racist and disproportionately advantageous for white people. Tara Ross, author of Regnery's The Indispensable Electoral College: How the Founders’ Plan Saves Our Country from Mob Rule, broke down for Townhall just why AOC is so misinformed. "We’re coming to you live from the Electoral College," Ocasio-Cortez said, showing largely empty farmland. "Many votes here, as you can see. Very efficient way to choose leadership of the country. I mean...
