Huawei has launched its own operating system — the HongmengOS, known in English as the HarmonyOS, said the CEO of the Chinese tech giant’s consumer division, Richard Yu, on Friday. Speaking at the Huawei Developer Conference in the Chinese city of Dongguan, Yu said the operating system can be used across different devices from smartphones to smart speakers and even sensors. It’s part of Huawei’s play in the so-called Internet of Things, which refers to devices connected to the internet. HarmonyOS will first be used on “smart screen products,” such as televisions, later this year. Over the next three years,...

Lawyers and staff at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton can now use their preferred pronouns on their email signatures and online biographies. Kilpatrick announced the new initiative via a firmwide email last week, making it one of a handful of large firms nationally to encourage its people to add the gender pronoun that they use, such as “he/him/his,” “she/her/hers,” or “they/them/theirs,” to their communications. “Automatic assumptions about gender pronouns are an unwelcome life challenge for some,” the firm’s email said, and making one’s preferred pronouns known is a way for Kilpatrick to “create a more inclusive environment and build a culture...

Twenty years ago on Friday, Russian president Boris Yeltsin appointed his fourth prime minister in less than 18 months: Vladimir Putin, then a relatively unknown security services chief with scant experience of politics. The departing Yeltsin was casting around for a successor and few could have predicted that two decades later Putin would still be ruling Russia, having taken on a dominant role in world affairs. But the anniversary comes at a time of uncertainty in the leader's reign. Putin's approval ratings remain at a level most Western leaders would envy but they have taken a hit from a stalling...

How many times have we heard that there needs to be a mechanism for warning about threats and dangerous situations? And how many times have we learned that warnings were ignored and mass casualties resulted? The most classic example coming to my mind was when the Minneapolis FBI Agent-in-Charge was concerned about Middle-Eastern men who wanted to learn to fly large jet planes. And the folks at HQ said, "aw, its nothing to worry about". On the other hand, we have had numerous "prank" swattings where cops are sent out in full gear in a targeted attack on a non-violent,...

For the past three years, Washington’s gatekeepers have covered up evidence of two potentially massive and overlapping public-corruption scandals that, if fully exposed, threaten to shake the nation to its core. One involves the Obama administration spying on the Trump campaign while sexing-up Russian interference in the 2016 election to justify it. The other involves it pulling punches in the Hillary Clinton email investigation and clearing her of criminal wrongdoing just in time for the Democratic National Convention. President Donald Trump has granted his plucky new attorney general the power to rip the cover off both these election-year scandals. Trump’s...

President Trump on Friday mocked former Vice President Joe Biden after the Democratic presidential candidate committed a gaffe by telling supporters that “poor kids” are “just as talented as white kids” before correcting himself to say “wealthy kids." "Joe is not playing with a full deck. He made that comment, I said 'woah,' " Trump told reporters as he left the White House for a fundraiser in the Hamptons. "This is not somebody you can have as your president, but if he got the nomination I’d be thrilled," he added.

Daniel Cameron, a black Kentucky Republican running for attorney general, shared that he was the target of a liberal lawyer's racial slur this past week. Yesterday, a liberal attorney said I should stop eating "coon flakes" in a @CourierJournal interview. I am a proud lifelong Republican, part of a diverse @KYGOP ticket, and yes I support @realDonaldTrump. It's time to stop telling black Americans what we're allowed to believe— Daniel Cameron (@djaycameron) August 7, 2019 In an interview with Fox News's Brian Kilmeade Thursday night, Cameron questioned whether the Democrats can really claim to be the party of "tolerance," considering...

A young woman who says financier Jeffrey Epstein and socialite Ghislaine Maxwell kept her as a sex slave also accused a host of high-powered men of being involved in Epstein’s alleged sex-trafficking ring, according to court records unsealed Friday. Virginia Giuffre, who says that Epstein and Maxwell trafficked her to powerful people for erotic massages and sex, claimed in a 2016 deposition that Maxwell directed her to have sex with former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Britain’s Prince Andrew (whom she has accused before), wealthy financier Glenn Dubin, former senator George Mitchell, now-deceased MIT scientist Marvin Minsky, and modeling agent...

MSNBC host Donny Deutsch on Friday said supporters of President Trump "own the blood that happens," arguing that shaming swing voters with that message could help swing the 2020 election. “I think that’s the message that’s got to get out there: 'You own it. You own the blood that happens. You own Charlottesville. You can’t do it. You get the whole package," Deutsch said on "Morning Joe." "And that’s what swing voters have got to understand and be shamed into,” he added. Deutsch, a marketing and branding expert, is a weekend host on MSNBC. His comments come two weeks after...

The first trove of documents have been unsealed in the 2015 defamation case brought against Ghislaine Maxwell by Virginia Roberts. The documents were made public Friday morning just moments after the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit upheld the decision to make public over 2,000 pages of court filings that had previously been under seal. Those documents reveal in great detail the three-year period in which Roberts claims she was Jeffrey Epstein and Maxwell's sex slave. Roberts has said that in that role she was 'forced to have sex with ...numerous prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign...

The Daytime Emmys in 2020 will combine the Outstanding Younger Actress and Outstanding Younger Actor awards into one gender-neutral category, our sister site Variety reports. The National Academy of Television Arts (NATAS) is also expected to announce that coinciding with that change, the new category will include performers from both broadcast dramas and digital series. The Daytime Emmys already keep things gender-neutral with its Outstanding Special Guest Performer category.
