Nine people were killed and 27 others were wounded, the police said. It was the second American mass shooting in 24 hours, and the third in a week. The gunman who killed nine people, including his sister, early Sunday morning in Dayton, Ohio, wore a mask, body armor and hearing protection, and he possessed a high-capacity magazine capable of holding 100 rounds, the police said. The gunman, identified as Connor Betts, 24, used what the police described as an “assault-style rifle” when he opened fire in a busy entertainment district in Dayton. A shotgun was also found in Mr. Betts’s...

Connor Betts, a 24-year-old from Bellbrook, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, has been identified as the gunman who opened fire early Sunday morning in the heart of a Dayton nightlife district and killed nine people, including his 22-year-old sister, Megan. Betts was killed by police shortly after the shooting began. When authorities in Ohio confirmed the identity of the shooter, some who went to high school with him were not surprised. A former classmate, for example, said she quickly thought of Betts as soon as she heard about the shooting. Why? He was reportedly suspended for causing a lockdown after...

DAYTON, Ohio — In the hours before the mass shooting, Connor and Megan Betts, brother and sister, drove together in the family’s 2007 Corolla to visit this city’s historic Oregon District, an area alive on a summer night with restaurants, bars and nightlife. Then, police said, they separated. It is not clear what the woman, 22, did at that point. But her brother, 24, donned a mask, body armor and ear protection. Wielding an “AR-15-like” weapon with magazines containing 100 rounds, he set out on a street rampage that, while it lasted only about 30 seconds, claimed the lives of...

America has long had a radioactive racist soup in the center of our national life. Donald Trump thinks he is stirring it for political benefit. He’s actually doing something more dangerous. For much of our history, the soup was deadly and uncontained, spewing radiation that led to the enslavement, terrorization, murder and oppression of African-Americans. One hundred years ago this summer, it erupted on the streets of Washington, leaving dozens dead. The president of Howard University narrowly escaped being lynched. The murders, beatings and threats erupted in countless places during the first 200 years of American life. To visit the...

This is a 5-minute read via a series of 40 tweets (It's his style of presentation) He explains how tariffs have been used (and abused) since WW-2, and how OUR POTUS is the only guy big enough and brave enough to remedy the present imbalance. It is pretty excellent as a an explanation of how this is a fine weapon for the trade wars with China and Europe.

The Mexican government on Sunday demanded protections for Mexicans and Mexican-Americans living in the U.S. following the deadly shooting in El Paso, Texas. “We consider this an act of terrorism against the community of Mexico,” Secretary of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard said during a press conference, signaling that Mexico’s prosecutor might make that designation official. Designating the incident as an act of terrorism would “permit Mexico access to all the information related to the case,” and “let us evaluate whether there are other individuals involved or potentially involved” that could put Mexicans at risk, Ebrard explained. He also indicated that...

Disgraced multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein might have been free to live whatever debauched fantasies he pleased months ago, but now he’s fighting for his own life, at least according to a lawyer involved in the case. Epstein’s recent apparent brush with death first hit the pubic eye July 23 when guards found him sprawled on the floor with neck injuries. Officials put the convicted sex offender and alleged child sex trafficker under suicide watch, and the matter seemed closed.

Tribe first said that Trump should be impeached for inciting violent acts, then took it a step further and outright accused the president of the United States of terrorism. “How many more people have to DIE violent deaths at racist hands before impeaching the president for inciting white nationalist terrorism and violence is taken as seriously as impeaching him for obstructing justice? The real national emergency is Donald J. Trump’s terrorism,” Tribe tweeted Sunday morning.

Hunter Pollack @PollackHunter After the Parkland school shooting where my sister died, the left pounced on the opportunity to attack republicans and the nra. They used my sisters death to advance their radical agenda. They are doing the same thing with the El Paso shooting. It’s pathetic and wrong.

This is quite something, isn't it? People who now casually talk about a legal decision whether to keep healthy, born healthy babies alive are righteously and furiously indignant about the rise in shooting rampages. I'm sorry that the anti-Christian secular culture of death that they were so eager to usher in also includes savages of other stripes that they could do without. Probably should have considered all the terms of the deal before signing on.

When “Freaky Friday” and “Tootsie” meet “The Great Escape.” A Brazilian gang leader tried to escape a high-security prison by dressing up as his teenage daughter — even planning to leave her behind in jail, according to authorities. Clauvino da Silva, 42, pretended to be a 19-year-old girl Saturday to walk out of the front door of Rio’s Gericinó prison, with smooth skin, long black hair and a cute pink T-shirt with doughnuts and love hearts. The convicted drug dealer’s amazing get-up was so convincing prison staff only stopped him at the end of visiting time because he started acting...

A look at the full lifetime emissions of the vehicles call into question the ecological assumptions around “micromobility.” Bird boasts that its dockless electric scooters allow customers to “cruise past traffic and cut back on CO2 emissions—one ride at a time.” Its rival Lime claims the vehicles “reduce dependence on personal automobiles for short distance transportation and leave future generations with a cleaner, healthier planet.” But the mere fact that battery-powered scooters don’t belch pollution out of a tailpipe doesn’t mean they’re “emissions free,” or as “eco-friendly” as some have assumed. The actual climate impact of the vehicles depends heavily...

The production studio behind ABC’s The Rookie says it has launched an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and racial bullying made by cast member Afton Williamson, who quit the series after sensing that her complaints had been largely ignored. As first reported by TVLine, Williamson is not returning for Season 2 of the procedural, where she played training officer Talia Bishop opposite Nathan Fillion’s title character. In a message posted to Instagram early Sunday morning, the actress alleged that starting with the pilot shoot in spring 2018 and throughout all of Season 1, she “experienced racial discrimination/racially charged inappropriate...
