Now this is another deadly bite to worry about, more so because the antimalarial drugs available in India may soon lose their teeth against the vector-borne disease, like in Myanmar and Cambodia. In the first research report on drug-resistant malaria from India, scientists at the National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) have traced a mutation in the disease-causing parasite. “Of the 384 samples we sequenced, non-synonymous mutations in the propeller region were found in four patients from the northeastern states. Though their presence did not correlate with ACT treatment failures, this mutation in the parasite comes as a major threat...

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz Tuesday said that while significant allegations of government misrepresentations merit investigation, withholding operational details surrounding the killing of Osama bin Laden would be appropriate if that furthered national security. Journalist Seymour Hersh set off a firestorm Sunday when he published a story accusing the Obama administration of lying to the American public about a host of details surrounding the death of bin Laden in 2011. Some other media outlets and the administration have questioned parts of or that full story. But Cruz, who is no defender of the White House, said national security concerns could...

Hard-core Communists in Hollywood, and by that I mean those with party cards and whose allegiance was to Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union, not the United States, made a major effort to take over the movie industry and nearly succeeded. The much-maligned House Un-American Activities Committee, as even liberal Hollywood historians Larry Ceplair and Steven Englund acknowledge, uncovered over 200 party members in Hollywood. My dad, Morrie Ryskind, one of the few outspoken anti-Communist screenwriters in Hollywood, said the number was closer to 300. They were part of a broad conspiracy of subversives who had penetrated America’s most critical...

As a state investigator escorted several small children out of a child care center in Minneapolis Wednesday, federal investigators were inside searching files and computers. An FBI spokesman would not comment on the extent of the investigation but confirmed a search warrant was executed at the Salama Child Care Center, 1411 Nicollet Ave. S. Investigators with the Minnesota Department of Human Services were also seen entering and exiting the building but directed all questions to the FBI. Parents trying to drop off their children for daycare were turned away at the door. Investigators were later seen carrying files and computers...

In 2011 archaeologists happened upon a stunningly well-preserved shipwreck off the coast of Panama. The wreckage, a mere 40 feet underwater, was untouched by looters and still carrying a full load of tools and weapons. Now, after years of work, scientists finally know the ship's story.

RUSH: From the UK Daily Mail. And I think this is -- well, I'll withhold my characterization of it, just give you the headline. "Poor People’s DNA is Declining in Quality, Say Scientists: Study Reveals How Stressful Upbringings Damage Genes. Stress can leave damaging and lasting imprints on the genes of the urban poor. This is according to a new study that claims poor people's DNA is declining in quality as a result of difficult upbringings. Now, is that even possible? DNA as a result of sociological circumstance? This story claims that not only is it likely, it's happening. "The...

RUSH: Speaking of narratives, let me ask you people a question. Do you recall first ladies being criticized or laughed at, ridiculed, or made fun of before Hillary Clinton? (interruption) Do any of you recall Nancy Reagan being laughed at and made fun of? (interruption) You do? What was she laughed at for? (interruption) Okay. That's exactly right. You know, you are exactly right. When Nancy Reagan came out and said "Just say no" as a policy for drug abuse, the media mocked her, the Democrat Party mocked her, called her a simpleton, said that certainly wouldn't work. "What do...

The 2015-16 session of the Michigan Legislature is underway, and like a new baseball season anticipation and hope are in the air. House Republicans recently unveiled an ambitious action plan that seeks to continue Michigan’s recovery. Many of the proposals in the House agenda are ideas recommended by Mackinac Center experts: Safeguard public employees’ retirement and protect taxpayers by closing the underfunded pension system and moving public employees to a 401(k)-style system. The school employee pension system is $25 billion in the red, while Michigan’s 50 largest cities have an additional $3.4 billion in unfunded liabilities. Stretch public resources by...

WILLIAM MacDonald, known as The Mutilator and NSW’s oldest and longest-serving prisoner, has died in Sydney’s Prince of Wales Hospital. MacDonald, who would have been 91 next month, terrorised Sydney in the early 1960s, killing four men in city parks and one earlier in Brisbane by luring them into dark places and then mutilating their genitalia. Many believe he was Australia’s first high-profile serial killer. His victims, mostly derelicts, were stabbed dozens of times with a long-bladed knife before MacDonald would cut off their penis and testicles. Between 1961 and 1962, MacDonald was responsible for a series of grisly murders...

Conservatives in America are sick and tired of letting the elitist political establishment in both parties, as well as the leftstream media, select Republican presidential nominees (RINOs who lost like: Ford, Dole, McCain, Romney), leaving the country with the false choice of two liberal candidates. One organization and one man are doing something to turn around this treacherous strategy that results in loss after loss, and has given us the worst president in history, Barack Obama. Election after presidential election, we are informed by the Karl Rove-types on who the “most electable” candidate is, and conservative icon Brent Bozell and...

RUSH: Did you know that there continue to be murders and shootings in Baltimore? (interruption) What do you mean, it can't be? (interruption) No, no. It's not peaceful at all since the cops have been arrested. It's not peaceful at all since Marilyn Mosby has come on the scene. It's not peaceful at all since Ray Lewis and other notorious Baltimore athletes have spoken to the community to calm them down. "The increase in violence," Baltimore Sun, major newspaper of the region. "The increase in violence that has followed the death of Freddie Gray continued through the weekend, with four...

To the casual observer, the American right can appear an undifferentiated wall of denial and obstructionism on climate change, but behind the scenes there are signs of movement. A growing number of conservative leaders and intellectuals have come to terms with climate science and begun casting about for solutions. Led mainly by libertarians and libertarian-leaning economists, they've begun to coalesce behind a carbon tax, which they consider the most market-friendly of the available alternatives. Jerry Taylor, a longtime veteran of the libertarian think tank Cato Institute who recently founded his own libertarian organization, the Niskanen Center, is a vocal proponent...

RUSH: Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, Barack Obama went to Georgetown University and participated in some kind of a conference on poverty and spirituality and just a whole bunch of stuff. And I am telling you, it is a gold mine. We have more from Barack Obama yesterday in terms of helping everybody understand who he is and who he has been from the beginning. He perfectly illustrated the chips on his shoulder about this country, the aspects of it that he doesn't like and his ongoing efforts to transform it and change it. The things that he said yesterday were...

Who is Barack Obama to lecture anyone, let alone Fox News, about "malicious" stereotypes concerning poverty? According to our "Uniter in Chief", I'm the racist equivalent of White Privilege who needlessly clings to guns and religion because I'm an ignorant Right Wing Extremist instead of an educated patriot who knows the constitutional charter of individual liberty - Checks & Balances - is the single greatest deterrence to executive unilateralism and government tyranny. Stereotypes, Mr. President? Unlike you I'm armed with cutthroat common sense and unflinching perspective: that's the catharsis of the "unreported truth" in liberal vernacular. If I may, Mr....

ROME — The Vatican said Wednesday that it had concluded a treaty to recognize Palestinian statehood, a symbolic but significant step welcomed by Palestinians but upsetting to the Israeli government. Formal recognition of a Palestinian state by the Vatican, which has deep religious interests in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories that include Christian holy sites, lends a powerful signal of moral authority and legitimacy to the efforts by the Palestinian Authority’s president, Mahmoud Abbas, to achieve statehood despite the long paralyzed Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Israel has grown increasingly alarmed about the increased international acceptance of Palestine as a state since the...

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri House Speaker John Diehl apologized Wednesday for his "poor judgment" following a newspaper report that he had exchanged sexually charged text messages with a college student who was serving as a Capitol intern. While asking for forgiveness, Diehl also appealed to his colleagues to retain their support as Democrats launched an effort to try to remove the Republican from the chamber's top position, which he was elected to in January.

Ssshhh. They don't like it any more than you do MOZILLA has released Firefox 38, bringing the spectre of Digital Rights Management (DRM) to the platform for the first time. The organisation has traditionally shyed away from DRM as it considers the technology something that goes against the openness of the Mozilla platform. However, Mozilla was forced to admit in May 2014 that taking on DRM was essential to avoid losing ground to rivals by not being able to play streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify. Andreas Gal, CTO and vice president of mobile for Mozilla, said in a...

BIBLIANO and AMIGO: Discussions on Eschatology (Lesson #2) by Charles S. Meek AMIGO: We are in the Last Days! The end is near! BIBLIANO: My friend, why do you think that? AMIGO: I watch the Trinity Broadcasting Network. You know—ISIS, Iran getting the nuke, blood moons, riots in the streets. Just read the newspaper! BIBLIANO: Have you ever seriously studied what the Bible says about the so-called Last Days? AMIGO: Don’t have to. All I need is TBN. Those preachers can’t be wrong about this. They sell a lot of books. BIBLIANO: Well, I hate to break your bubble, Amigo....
