In response to Gen David Petraeus' denunciation of Florida pastor Terry Jones' right to engage in a symbolic protest of the 9/11 attacks by burning copies of the Quran this Sept. 11, President Obama said: "Let me be clear: As a citizen, and as president, I believe that members of the Dove World Outreach Center have the same right to freedom of speech and religion as anyone else in this country." Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida lauded Obama's remarks, saying America is "a place where you're supposed to be able to practice your religion without the government telling you you...

U.S. Monetary System Is In Serious Trouble Interest-Rates / US Bonds Sep 11, 2010 - 01:20 PM By: Bob Chapman There is no question the US monetary system is in serious trouble and the situation continues to deteriorate. The smug elitist owners of the system are not getting the desired results and there is great consternation among the players. Since 1913 in running US monetary policy the Fed has had one recession after another and two depressions. The second one is the one we are now in. The Fed’s creation was mainly to end recessions and depressions, something obviously they...

MILWAUKEE — Harley-Davidson employees in Wisconsin are being asked to vote in favor of a labor contract that will freeze their pay, slash hundreds of jobs and hand large volumes of work to nonunion workers. As bleak as the proposal sounds, employees may have little choice but to accept it. If they don't, Harley-Davidson Motor Co. has threatened to move its last two Wisconsin operations to another state, leaving about 1,350 employees out of work. Employees are scheduled to vote on the proposed seven-year contract Monday. The results should be available by the evening. The Milwaukee-based motorcycle company blames its...

So how far along are we towards completing the Freedom Tower? Not far along as far as we can tell. Michelle Malkin asks the same question I’ve been wondering about for the last four or five years. Why is the Freedom Tower not done yet? Malkin points to quite a few major construction projects here in the United States that took between 66 days and three years, the latter being Chicago’s Sears Tower, re-branded the Willis Tower. More perspective…

As a Muslim it is my sincere wish Park 51 ‘not’ be used as an official mosque. This decision must be made immediately to save the nation from an anxiety ridden divisive debate and also to spare the 9/11 victim’s families ongoing anguish. I believe I am not the only muslim who feels this way about this difficult issue. We all know everyone is well within their rights to establish a place of worship virtually any place they wish but there is something far more important in this particular case which is getting sidelined as we all get caught up...

Twenty-four students and four staff members at a central B.C. high school were briefly quarantined after a can of sauerkraut exploded Friday in a food science class. The fire department, a hazardous materials unit and RCMP were called to Kelly Road Secondary School in Prince George at about 2 p.m. PT. RCMP Const. Lesley Smith said school officials were concerned about a possible botulism outbreak after the contents of a years-old can of pickled cabbage splattered on students.

Raleigh, N.C. – It looks like there’s a real possibility of a major upset in the New York Senate primary on Tuesday night, with insurgent conservative Carl Paladino leading longtime establishmen GOP pick Rick Lazio 47-44. That 3 point lead is well within the poll’s margin of error. If Lazio is indeed defeated Tuesday night it will be yet another sign that conservatives have a strangle hold on the Republican Party and moderates may or may not be welcome anymore.

For the second time in a week, Peter Orszag has zinged his former boss. Former OMB Director Peter Orszag (Photo by Karen Bleier/AFP/Getty Images) Orszag, who just left his job as President Barack Obama’s budget chief, said Sunday that the president’s policy of making the Bush-era tax cuts permanent for middle-income families would jeopardize the nation’s finances. Last week, he made the same argument in a New York Times column that took the White House by surprise. “We, unfortunately, can’t afford the tax cuts over the medium and long term,” Orszag said on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS.” “We face too...

Raleigh, N.C. – It looks like there’s a real possibility of a major upset in the Delaware Senate primary on Tuesday night, with insurgent conservative Christine O’Donnell leading longtime Congressman and Governor Mike Castle 47-44. That 3 point lead is well within the poll’s margin of error. If Castle is indeed defeated Tuesday night it will be yet another sign that conservatives have a strangle hold on the Republican Party and moderates may or may not be welcome anymore. Castle has an overwhelming 69-21 lead with moderate voters but they only make up 33% of the likely primary electorate. O’Donnell...

MEXICO CITY – Mexican marines have arrested Sergio Villarreal Barragan, a presumed leader of the Beltran Leyva cartel who appears on the country's list of most-wanted drug traffickers. An official in Mexico's Navy tells The Associated Press that Barragan, alias "El Grande," was captured in the state of Puebla. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department policy. Barragan appears on a 2009 Attorney General's Office list of Mexico's most-wanted drug traffickers and has a roughly $2 million reward for his capture. He is listed as one of the top leaders of the Beltran Leyva cartel. Barragan's...

Amtrak officials pushed the agency's longtime inspector general to resign — without telling Congress — after the watchdog official exposed wrongdoing, mismanagement and criminal activity inside the taxpayer-funded rail service, a congressional probe has found. The finding is among the key disclosures in a joint staff report by ranking Republicans of the Senate Finance and House Oversight and Government Reform committees into the sudden departure last year of Amtrak Inspector General Fred Weiderhold. "Because of his expertise, the [Amtrak] Board viewed Weiderhold as a threat," concluded a draft copy of the report, which was reviewed by The Washington Times.

I was watching the 9/11 commemoration and, as if my psyche has not been assaulted enough by seeing again that horrible attack on our nation, I received a disturbing email from a friend. She asked to me read an article titled, “Social Engineering Bill In Senate Will Force You Into City,” by Bob Livingston. It is conceivable that this situation could be more damaging to our society than was the 9/11 attack. I refrain from trusting much of anything I receive via email, without doing some further checking. With just a preliminary check, indeed Chris Dodd did introduce SB1619, the...
