BEND, OR -- Every year, more than 500 people in Oregon take their own lives, while another 1,800 attempt suicide, a rate 33% higher that the national average.

When you encourage suicide, more people commit suicide.
is this really true? Did they reject Christ? This is serious.....
Oregon is, I believe, the most unchurched state in the USA.
Nothing like that at all. It's SAD, or "Seasonal Affected Disorder".
It is TERRIBLE. Apparently all that rain and gloom and no sun make people do wierd things, or at least those who MAY already have such tendencies.
Very bad juju, is SAD.
It would be interesting to see a geographical distribution. I would suspect that most suicides are on the coastal side of the Cascades. The coastal side exhibiting more gray overcast days.
Is the difference accounted for by the number of new “medical suicides”?
I didn’t know that. and it is sad.... I’ll pray....
To fairly evaluate the question, one would have to look at historical suicide rates. Gloomy grey weather isn’t something that came to Oregon just yesterday.
is this what Oregon does?
With local newspapers running crap like this, it’s no wonder:

Whether this is involved as a cause or an effect isn’t clear to me. It might mean Oregon happened to get settlers that largely did not want churches in the first place. Its history would be an intriguing thing to look at.

My liberal cousin (who is a psychiatrist and loves to visit ashrams) told me Oregon is the most ‘progressive’ state in the union. ‘Progress to death’.
Oregon was the first U.S. state and one of the first jurisdictions in the world to permit some terminally ill patients to determine the time of their own death.
The people happiest with staying alive live in Washington, DC!
Those gummit benefits must be real comforting.
A very sad Oregon ping

Then how do you explain anyone alive in Seattle? They get maybe 10 days of sunshine a year (I was there for over a year). And how about Canada? Or Russia?

Add interminable drizzling rain.
Repeat.
Yeah, at first I was surprised, and then I thought...well, of course, it’s likely really nice having someone else do everything for you!
