Arguments are scheduled Monday in the 3rd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Philadelphia on a school district's decision to censor Christmas carols – even holiday melodies without words. Attorneys with the Thomas More Law Center say they will argue to reverse a lower court ruling affirming a policy in the South Orange-Maplewood School District that banned the music after someone complained. The law firm says the school's ban was specifically aimed at preventing Christmas music, including simple instrumentals without words, during holiday concernts. The district had allowed the performance of traditional Christmas music for more than 60 years but...

I'm going to record coverage, but I can record only one channel. Which would you choose to preserve today's events -- C-SPAN or Fox News? I'm thinking C-SPAN would be straight video and audio; Fox News would have commentary and commercials. Your thoughts?

Karen Armstrong says we need God to grasp the wonder of our existence Richard Dawkins has been right all along, of course—at least in one important respect. Evolution has indeed dealt a blow to the idea of a benign creator, literally conceived. It tells us that there is no Intelligence controlling the cosmos, and that life itself is the result of a blind process of natural selection, in which innumerable species failed to survive. The fossil record reveals a natural history of pain, death and racial extinction, so if there was a divine plan, it was cruel, callously prodigal and...

No doubt some filmgoers will be more than a little surprised by the overtly religious themes explored in A Serious Man, the latest film from brother-filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen***** While they are Jewish and were reared in a religious home in suburban Minneapolis, the Coens have never dabbled in heavy-handed religious fare à la Cecil B. de Mille's epics, Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ or, more unfortunately, John Travolta's tribute to his Scientology faith, Battlefield Earth. A Serious Man is a black comedy set in the Coen brothers' real-life hometown of St. Louis Park, Minn., in 1967...

I know that this is not a place to ask questions, but everyone hear seems pretty intellegent, and if my question could be answered it would put my mind at ease. I recently inherited some money from a relative in NY, but I live in RI which has a death transfer tax. This relative has no personal or real property in RI. Am I responsible for the transfer tax in RI, or is everything taken care of in NY. I sure hate these liberal states they are taking everything from us.

The Census Bureau has reluctantly announced that ACORN will not be employed for the 2010 Census, no doubt buckling under the mountainous weight of the almost daily revelations of ACORN's thuggish, criminal, traitorous behavior. We also know that ACORN is comprised of over 300 interlocking criminal organizations, typical of communist and fascist groups made up of cells, making a true picture of the entire ugly thing impossible. So... what stealth ACORN group will be given the census? For it is certain that this is what will happen. How do we unravel this knot?

Sandy LaPierre's pet cat Smoka has truly lived up to her name. Presumed to have perished in a fire, the lucky feline was found alive last week, 26 days after a blaze broke out in LaPierre's apartment building in Franklin, Ohio. The tenacious kitty even managed to survive two rounds of demolition work before she was discovered. A crew from Stark Wrecking Co. spotted Smoka's head sticking out from under 16 feet of debris on September 4.

“Mr. Obama didn’t lie. The bills before Congress declare illegal immigrants to be inelligibile for subsidized benefits. It is impossible to imagine any final bill doing otherwise.. Mr. Wilson was a boor, but some Republicans still insist that he was right because the bill doesn’t ensure that the undcocumented have no insurance. Time for a reality check.” So editorialized the New York Times on Friday, September 11th. As the furor continues over the cry of “You lie!” by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) during President Obama’s address on health care on Wednesday (September 9), the national media omits two important details:...

I’m always amazed by how many Americans completed their educations while believing that the job of the U.S. Supreme Court is to interpret the Constitution and that this means “to figure out what the Founders intended.” Those who were paying a bit more attention, or who took political science classes in college, often know that there are different ways to interpret the Constitution. There are a lot of different interpretive models, but I’m going to focus on two: “the living Constitution” and “original public meaning.” “The living Constitution” became popular in the mid-1930s in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s...

Now, it can't deny there is a problem. France Telecom, the once proud and efficient French public company, is in trouble, big trouble. Twenty-two of the company's employees have killed themselves in the last 20 months and all have left letters or testimonies incriminating their work conditions. This week, another employee tried but failed to take his own life. Some have even committed the desperate act in their own office. For months, France Telecom denied these "accidents" had anything to do with the company's work ethics. Now, the problem is staring it in the face. For the first time this...

(Manassas, Virginia) Longtime conservative Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, provided training to about 120 Tea Party leaders at a seminar he held in conjunction with the group's march on Washington, D.C. The seminar covered the following key topics: How to use new and alternative media ('under-the-radar' media) to challenge blue dog Democrats in primaries; How to get money, volunteers and members for your Tea Party; How to challenge big-government Republicans in primaries; How to challenge Massachusetts legislators who support changing their election law regarding Ted Kennedy's replacement; and How to bypass the mainstream media, and go directly into voters'...

.Ship’s engine won’t meet Calif. standards Unless the Lady Washington reduces its carbon footprint, Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority members fear they will not be able to sail the ship to California, due to the state’s strict air pollution regulations. The Seaport announced this week it is beginning a “sailing green” capital campaign to raise $100,000 to purchase a new, more fuel efficient engine as well as make upgrades to the ship’s electrical system, Seaport communications director Joe Follansbee said. The Lady’s current engine, a 1950s-era Detroit Diesel 8V-71 no longer meets environmental standards, Follansbee said. The Seaport says if...

Fox's attempt to smear ACORN Thursday September 10, 2009 is despicable, part of a coordinated, long-term campaign by Fox to damage ACORN, the premiere community organization of low- and moderate-income people in the United States. Every day ACORN members are working for health care reform, living wage jobs, to end the foreclosure crisis, and to strengthen our public schools. For its part, Fox is running a campaign to demonize ACORN. They will get attention, but they will not succeed. In July 2009, Fox agents attempted to enter ACORN offices in New York, in Philadelphia, in San Diego, in Los Angeles,...

I have a good friend…no, a great friend, who was born and raised in New York City. He’s one of these guys who can live anywhere in the US, but still call himself a New Yorker; it’s like the Hudson River runs through his blood. He lives in Pennsylvania, damned near halfway between Pittsburgh and The City, but you can’t get this guy to look West for a team to cheer, he’s Yankees and Giants and six rings be damned. With him it’s all about Big Blue and The Wrecking Crew, guys with a “T” in their name…Tarkenton, Taylor, and Tittle,...
