Schools' Ban on Christmas Music Challenged (Maplewood, NJ)

Arguments are scheduled Monday in the 3rd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Philadelphia on a school district's decision to censor Christmas carols – even holiday melodies without words.

Attorneys with the Thomas More Law Center say they will argue to reverse a lower court ruling affirming a policy in the South Orange-Maplewood School District that banned the music after someone complained.

The law firm says the school's ban was specifically aimed at preventing Christmas music, including simple instrumentals without words, during holiday concernts. The district had allowed the performance of traditional Christmas music for more than 60 years but in 2004 suddenly banned it.

"This blatant anti-Christian policy is yet another example of the total and militant hostility that many public schools have towards Christians and Christmas," said Richard Thompson, Thomas More's president and chief counsel.

“Constipational” or not, it’s still a damn shame that the American Communist Liberals Union is able to get away with this kind of crap. The Constitution belongs to the American people. It’s our job to tell the government what something in the Constitution means if the politicians and “judges” can’t understand it. It’s NOT the other way around. Stupidity and ignorance does have consequences.

This isn’t Philadelphia, it’s New Jersey. And I’ll bet I know who filed that protest. I know a woman in Maplewood with kids in that school district. She is a flaming ACLU liberal and has indoctrinated her kids terribly. Just the type to bitch about Christmas music in the schools.

Maplewood has two parts; a well-off side, that looks kind of like Ozzie-and-Harriet land, and a considerably less well-off side, that looks... ahh... well, let’s just say doesn’t look too great.

The idea for compulsory attendance, compulsory funded, government K-12 schools gained traction in the mid to late 1800s. It was in response to the flood of Catholic immigrants coming into the country. At the time government K-12 schools taught a generic form of state established Protestantism. These anti-Catholic government school promoters forgot one thing ( among several):

**Any government powerful enough to force Protestantism on other people's children ( and make the taxpayer pay for it), is powerful enough to force godless humanistic Marxism on OUR kids.***!!!!!

So...The solution is not to try to get the Christmas carols back on the government prison ( oops! “school”) buses. We must shut down government K-12 schools. We must work to see that every child in this nation has access to a **private** tuition-free conservative education.

A group of students gets together at lunch to sing carrols. If they get suspended, next day twice as many show up to do the same thing, along with a group of parents outside the school.

Moreover, if I’m choir or band director, you can bet I’m going to resist by including a couple of songs in this year’s concert.

In today’s America, this kind of rule breaking is a patriotic act.

the USSC has ruled that religious music is fine as long as it’s part of an overall secular performance. The ACLU mom has no case.

A friend of mine works in the office of a public elementary school in Arlington, VA where a very dictatorial rabbi comes in and gives detailed instructions about what the school may and may not do with the holidays. Can you imagine what would happen if it were a Catholic priest or Protestant pastor came into the office of a public school and tried to call the shots? And let's not even imagine what the imams will do once they hit critical mass.

My daughter’s public school band played God Bless America at last night’s football game at half time.

This is getting ridiculous. Even the little school my grandkids go to won’t let them sing Christmas carols. But last year a trio did sing O Holy Night and they were wonderful! Keep suing the libtards who think they can get away with censoring God. Do THEY have a surprise coming to them.

Maplewood, like Montclair and South Orange are basically where the latte lefties of Park Slope and the Upper West Side move when they decide to breed. Interestingly enough, however, there is a strong Christian Haitian community in the portion of Maplewood that borders Irvington, and I can’t believe that they would go along with this.

As mentioned in my earlier post, the portion of Maplewood that borders Irvington has a large Haitian/Carribbean population, while the other portion is comprised of white upper middle class Obamatons, including the largest suburban gay population in the state of New Jersey. I think that the black population was about 22% per the 2000 census, but it has dropped as rising housing costs have forced many of the Caribs out.

If anyone protests this from WITHIN Maplewood, it would be the Caribs. Many of them are Jehovah's Witnesses, so they have a tradition of "making their faith heard."

From what the article states, the ban is on *ALL* religious music, not Christmas music.
