The marketing executive at the center of a controversial series of Washington Post-sponsored dinner "salons" has resigned from the newspaper some 10 weeks after the events were canceled, The Post said Friday. Here is video of CNN's Jean Meserve explaining how they mistook a Coast Guard Training Exercise on the Potomac River in Washington D.C. today, for a real live-fire incident. Meserve explained they heard audio from the Coast Guard saying "10 rounds have been expended." There were boats on the river that appeared to be trying to evade the Coast Guard as well. CORUNNA, Michigan -- The Shiawassee County Prosecutor's office has charged Harlan J. Drake, 33, of Owosso with two counts of first-degree, premeditated murder in Friday's slaying of an anti-abortion activist in Owosso and an Owosso Towship gravel pit owner. County Prosecutor Randy Colbry said Drake also had plans to kill an Owosso realtor but was arrested before he could carry out his alleged plan.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty has ratcheted up his criticism of President Obama's health care overhaul plan, invoking states' rights as a way to avoid implementing whatever might become law. During a conference call Thursday night with reporters and conservative activists, Pawlenty said "asserting the 10th Amendment" of the U.S. Constitution might allow Minnesota and other states to sidestep federally-imposed changes to the health care system.
