Just for Today...My 9-11 tribute
Me I wrote it this morning | 9-11-09 | cyborg

Posted on 09/11/2009 1:34:02 PM PDT by cyborg

Just for today…

I won’t worry about money and paying bills because there was once a man or woman on their way to work in the Towers with money on their minds.

I won’t pester or fight with my husband because on the morning of 9-11, a husban and wife had a fight and he left angry and she is left with a lifetime of regret.

I won’t worry about what I’m eating or drinking because I’m alive to eat and drink.

I won’t ask God for more stuff because I should be thankful for the breathe in my lungs in the first place.

I WILL live life as if life was full of infinite possibilities (it is!).

I WILL affirm the sanctity of life in everyone (because someone somewhere didn’t give the folks in the WTC and the airplanes that honor).

I WILL love and appreciate my family esp. my husband

I WILL love myself and take care of the body that I have in honor of the deceased heroes and heroines of 9-11.

There are mistakes in it. I wrote it from the heart. I’m not correcting it because I wrote it after reading another 9-11 thread and thinking about life.

after reading another 9-11 thread and thinking about life.

I spent the night in the Highland Mountains (actual name) so as to see the sun come up and to again experience the silence of the days following (when all flights were grounded in Boston).

Sometimes I feel so unworthy and disgusted with myself that God made me a nurse and gave me the honor of caring for people’s dying parents. Well I try not to feel that way all the time and I thought that this day wasn’t the day to be feeling that way!

The mountains sound beautiful. It’s raining and the day is totally gloomy. Good for writing brooding, depressing poetry ;-)

In the days that followed 9-11, Edwards AFB,CA was closed, so I took my family for a hike on a portion of the Burkhardt Trail that we had not been on before. This trail hugs the northern slope of the San Gabriel Mountains, the mountain range north of Los Angeles that the recent Station Fire burned all the way through. At one point during the hike, the skies totally clear and silent, I noticed that we were walking in a garden. The mountain side was extremely steep crushed pink granite with dwarf live oak trees carefully spaced, and loaded with the largest acorns I have ever seen. While we filled our shirts with acorns, I thought, the indians must have known about this place. Then it became clear to me that the indians are most dear to God because, despite this life’s hardships, they live always as if they are in a garden, trusting in God to provide them with all that they need. We came home from that hike knowing that God would be with us.

Thank you!

I remember hearing about the attacks from one of my colleagues at school. She came in telling me that a plane had flown into the Twin Towers. I thought that impossible... as the news unfolded it became increasingly clear we were under attack. (I could only hear bits and pieces with my class working.... First graders.)

Getting home that night it was horrifying to see the coverage on television. I hadn't seen anything up to that point.

Later in the evening, after all planes had been granted, I took my daughter outside to look and listen to a quiet and still sky. Off in the distance we heard a jet aircraft. After making calls to the local sheriff's department, we were referred to the FBI. We got a hold of them. They asked where we were calling from and gave them our location. After about two minutes of waiting they acknowledged a U.S. Air Force re-con aircraft flying the northern route.

You’re welcome. I don’t want to disappoint the memory of the victims by living a sad life. It’s important we cherish life and do uncommon acts of greatness. I thought it was impossible too but there’s nothing more dangerous than someone with no regards for their lives.

I grew up in New England. I miss the terrain, the trees, the rain, the snow. I really miss riding (m/c) through woods trails and walking on the fallen leaves.

Here, the mountains are almost too close and the trees are without variety. Fall/winter is a day or two apart, Summer is mostly on the calendar and spring is about water or bed construction.

I've grown to appreciate (and miss here) rain/snow foul weather days. I consider them time for us to step back and recharge ourselves, reflect and attempt to get over some problems.

You posted...['Sometimes I feel so unworthy' -- and more]

I wish I could do what you can do.

We should learn from history that we never want to fight this mindset on equal footing. I mean, I think what the Knights of Malta did was awesome, but I don’t think anyone should want to repeat it.

We were sent home from work mid-morning. The kids were kept at school. Early in the afternoon, I heard a plane flying overhead. It sent absolute chills and panic through me. Turned out to be Air Force One. President Bush was kept at Offutt Air Force Base (used to house Strategic Air Command) for awhile until things cleared up. Also at the office, one of the ladies (I don’t work there any longer) was married to an Air Force Officer, so she had “inside” knowlege that there was a missing plane (flight 93) and that the military was planning to shoot it down.

So much in your post that I could reply to. I believe that your last line (above) IS the most succinct.

Wow... I can't even fathom what you must have thought or experienced.

God Bless you, and all those affected by that tragic day. I guess that's us all.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, with the focus on the eternal over the temporary through a good attitude each day towards all. The comment about “not worry[ing] about what I’m eating or drinking because I’m alive to eat and drink” ties in especially — I vividly remember losing any desire to eat.

September 11 (August 29 according to the Orthodox church’s “old” calendar) is a day of fasting and prayer to commemorate the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. Not incidentally, it has traditionally been a day of remembrance of those who have given their lives in defense of their country.

The tragedy made the purpose and sense of that fast day very real: fasting for St. John the Baptist, who died for truth; fasting for those fallen in defense of their country who died for truth; now fasting as well for those who perished on September 11, 2001 in a battle waged by Islam for world terror and against truth.

Thanks again for sharing.

“The Galleys at Lepanto” by Jack Beeching is a must have must read book. You can find it used at www.abebooks.com or amazon.com. He recounts all the major battles leading up to the miraculous victory at Lepanto.
