I dont get it. The modern-day Murrow told us last night that Joe Wilson was wrong, wrong, wrong.
If a man cant trust Keith Olbermann to tell him the truth, who can he trust?
The controversy over Republican Rep. Joe Wilsons shouting out You Lie! at the President over his claim that illegal immigrants wouldnt benefit from health-care reform apparently sparked some reconsideration of the relevant language. We really thought wed resolved this question of people who are here illegally, but as we reflected on the Presidents speech last night we wanted to go back and drill down again, said Senator Kent Conrad, one of the Democrats in the talks after a meeting Thursday morning. Baucus later that afternoon said the group would put in a proof of citizenship requirement to participate in the new health exchange a move likely to inflame the left.
Why would the left be inflamed? Putting laws on the books about illegal immigrants and then studiously ignoring them is a longstanding American tradition. Meanwhile, as expected, Wilsons starting to rake in big dough from his outburst; a flash poll shows him actually trailing Rob Miller by a single point while the national media throws everything theyve got at him, but expect Millers lead to go the way of The Ones bounce in the next few weeks as things calm down.

TORT REFORM!!!
... and, somewhere, a broken and embittered John McCain is weeping disconsolately. ;)
When I heard this yesterday, I burst out laughing. How dumb do they think we all are?
The Senate should close that whole Communist conceived act of terrorism on our economy anyone who votes for that Pinko Mumbo Jumbo needs imprisoned for life.
Will that cover them going to the ER also?
300 pages was added to the carbon tax bill in the middle of the night. Don’t expect this to last.
Social Security was established in 1935 - they've had 74 years to get it right; it is broke.
Fannie Mae was established in 1938 - they've had 71 years to get it right; it is broke. Freddie Mac was established in 1970 - they've had 39 years to get it right; it is broke. Together Fannie and Freddie have now led the entire world into the worst economic collapse in 80 years.
The War on Poverty was started in 1964 - they've had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our hard earned money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor"; it hasn't worked.
Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965 - they've had 44 years to get it right; they are both broke; and now our government dares to mention them as models for all US health care.
AMTRAK was established in 1970 - they've had 39 years to get it right; last year they bailed it out as it continues to run at a loss!
The Dept of Energy which was formed in the late 70's to reduce our reliance on foreign oil, foster development of alternative energy sources, develop better batteries, etc. In 30 years, they have accomplished nothing.
This year, a trillion dollars was committed in the massive political payoff called the Stimulus Bill of 2009; it shows NO sign of working; it's been used to increase the size of governments across America , and raise government salaries while the rest of us suffer from economic hardships. It has yet to create a single new private sector job. Our national debt projections (approaching $10 trillion) have increased 400% in the last six months.
"Cash for Clunkers" was established in 2009 and went broke in 2009 - - after 80% of the cars purchased turned out to be produced by foreign companies, and dealers nationwide are buried under bureaucratic paperwork demanded by a government that is not yet paying them what was promised.
So with a perfect 100% failure rate and a record that proves that each and every "service" shoved down our throats by an over-reaching government turns into disaster, how could any informed American trust our government to run or even set policies for America's health care system - - 17% of our economy?
Maybe each of us has a personal responsibility to let others in on this brilliant record before 2010, and then help remove from office those who are voting to destroy capitalism and destroy our grandchildren's future.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labours of the people under the pretence of taking care of them.
-- Thomas Jefferson
Joe Wilson was RIGHT and Obama is a LIAR. What is this health exchange? Are those the co-ops?
BRILLIANT and BRAVO!
If Paul Harvey were still with us, what you just posted would make an excellent commentary for him, in fact I’ll bet YOU could do a fine job in his place!
I’m copying and sending your post to everyone I know.
Thank You FRiend!
So very true.
It’s amazing that for something that doesn’t exist ... it needs fixes.
Something out of the Twilight Zone or Orwellian or something.
As I understand it (and if they haven't changed the definition), the "health exchange" is comparable to the Connector under the execrable MA health "reform" plan -- a central clearing house that supposedly helps individuals find the appropriate insurer.
Warning... The House version WILL get through conference committee.
About equally as dumb as most of their supporters really are.
Dumb enough to elect them again. Lets prove them wrong.
The inflamed fistula of Washington politics - closing the “loophole” that nobody will even admit exists.
But the whole bill, and the rationale for its very presence, has to be excised from the legislative hopper.
There are some very good suggestions for REAL reform of how health insurance, and financing of medical expenses, in this country, the first of which is, GET RID OF TORT LAW, at least insofar as it applies to medicine and medical procedures. An arbitration board, which has binding force, is the more appropriate venue for resolution of questions of medical practice, not a jury of “peers”. And certainly not on a contingency basis.
Secondly, coverage in Amerca is OPTIONAL, which means, selection of the combination of risk and benefit on an individual basis, not a “one size fits all”. A major medical coverage, which protects against catastrophic expense, combined with personal responsibility for most medical treatment of a lesser nature, either through personal preventative care, and making a dedicated “medical savings account” part of the accepted civil code, or acknowledgement that when such expenses arise, they shall be reimbursed out of the individual’s own resources.
At the individual’s option, the medical coverage selected should be fully portable, which means the employer no longer has a duty or responsibility to provide coverage to the employee, but may do so as a “perk” of the job. Health insurance, over time, should become fully severed from an individual’s place of employment.
The portion of annual income spent on medical support for oneself or the family, should not be subject to taxation. Fully deducted would be the amount used to set up the “medical savings account” and purchase of major medical coverage, and the earnings of any interest from either that account or as stockholders in the major medical insurance corporation.
And open up competition between medical insurers across state lines, first by eliminating “mandates”, then by standardizing policies, allowing such customization as the consumer desires to be part of the direct negotiations between the insurance company and the buyer.
Patient goes to the doctor, gets treated, then, depending on the severity and terms of the treatment, pays for the medical services (or makes other arrangements for payment), and turns the receipt in to the insurance company, which then reimburses the patient. The doctor never deals with the insurance company, because his purpose is to heal patients, not fight endless battles with bean counters.
What about those who cannot afford any of these solutions, you say? There are charitable organizations that take on the very difficult cases, particularly in the instance of children, where compassionate care is extended through a combination of “pro bono” medical services, and drives for support of these institutions through voluntary giving, a most peculiar institution that has enjoyed great support down through the history of this nation.
Just make these things possible, and get out of the way. So very many things do not have to be “fixed”.
Anyone voting for Obamacare needs to be defeated and in the House most that voted for Pelosi as Speaker need to go.
