The Russian defense industry may not have long to survive. Long the provider of massive amounts of weapons to the Soviet armed forces and those of satellite nations and much of the Third World, today some experts believe that only a massive infusion of funds from the Russian government can save the industry. Further, the best showcase for new Russian aerospace products has fizzled. Writing for the Military Periscope online database, Russian expert Reuben F. Johnson reported on the recent Russian aerospace exhibit (MAKS 2009) in the Moscow suburb of Zhukovsky: The ever-multiplying layers of security and clearance procedures that...

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Despite fierce opposition, the White House and top Democratic allies in the Senate on Thursday predicted they would pass the most sweeping health care overhaul in decades by late November. And President Barack Obama signaled that opposition to his plan -- chiefly from Republicans -- would not derail his goal of a comprehensive remaking of the way the world's richest country manages medicine. "If there are real concerns about any aspect of my plan, let's address them. If there are real differences, let's resolve them," said the president. "But we have talked this issue to death, year...

There are some wild rumors going around and lately I don´t trust anything about Obama and am getting a bit fidgety about what may turn out to be your wreckless conduct that can make Vietnam look like a picnic you were wanting. Today in Palmerola several planes from the US Air Force landed. What is significant about that is because of Hillary and Obama´s stance that what happened here was a coup and the supposed suspension of military cooperation. Tomorrow is Sept 11 and while most people think World Trade Center and 9-11-2001 Hondurans think 9-11-1919 when the US invaded...

Rep. Wilson Outburst Leads Senate Dems to Close Loophole in Health Reform Bill In the Senate, Democrats in the so called "Gang of Six," began moving quickly to close the loophole Rep. Joe Wilson helped bring to light with his outburst during President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night. FOXNews.com Thursday, September 10, 2009 The apologies are out of the way and the offense forgiven. But the underlying policy argument remains, after a Congressman drew fire from both sides of the aisle for his outburst during President Obama's speech Wednesday. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., was...

Based on our analysis of Census Bureau data, we estimate that there are 6.6 million uninsured ILLEGAL ALIENS who could be COVERED BY THE NEW HEALTH CARE REFORM BILL. Even though HR 3200 states that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the proposed taxpayer-funded affordable premium credits, there is NOTHING in the bill to enforce this. An amendment was defeated by Democrats that would have required the use of the effective Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, used by ALL OTHER means-tested programs of this kind. ["YOU LIE!," shouted Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) when Obama said illegal aliens would...

A much-loved garden bird has been exposed as a ruthless killer after being observed seeking out and eating hibernating bats. The great tits were provoked into the unusual behaviour after suffering food shortages during particularly harsh winter weather. Over the course of two winters, ornithologists observed the birds searching for, killing and eating 18 bats in caves in the Bükk Mountains in northeast Hungary. The birds normally live on seeds and insects such as caterpillars and spiders but during the winter these can be in very scarce supply. In particular, snow cover can make it impossible for the great tits...

And then...Presto! Just like magic through stimulus and some fancy footwork the economy begins to look like it is improving, but is it really? Knowing that stimulus money must eventually run out, that the number of American's out of work continues to grow, that Europe's unemployment is at 10 year highs, and that some Asian countries are starting to falter how can we believe this? We shouldn't and through our knowledge of that we should be looking for opportunities to capitalize on the bear market rally's turn around. In particular we should be looking to banking stocks, auto manufacturing stocks,...

A federal hearing has been scheduled in the case of an Army captain seeking to avoid deployment based on arguments that President Barack Obama can’t legitimately hold office. A hearing for Capt. Connie Rhodes is set for 2 p.m. Friday, court records show. Rhodes claims the president is “an illegal usurper” and “an unlawful pretender” and that she cannot lawfully act under his authority. Defendants include Obama, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Col. Thomas MacDonald, Fort Benning garrison commander. Rhodes seeks to stop Gates, MacDonald and others from giving her and others until Obama’s citizenship status is established, her...

One might argue that a man who’s truly sorry for what he did wouldn’t be trying to make a buck off of it, but if the left’s going to monetize his outburst — replete with scolding about what an embarrassment he is from the national embarrassment that we call Joe Biden — I guess he has no choice. Here’s the donation page. As I write this, The Hill is oh so innocently wondering whether Wilson’s shouting might be due to the fact that he’s … some sort of speed freak. We’ve reached a very, very dark point.

Harvard’s endowment tumbled 27.3 percent in its latest fiscal year, largely because of problems with its private equity and hedge fund portfolios, lopping off $10 billion and shrinking its portfolio to $26 billion. The loss is the biggest percentage decline at Harvard in 40 years and has prompted a review of how it manages its money and allocates assets. Jane Mendillo, who took over the endowment on July 1, 2008, intends to manage more of the school’s assets directly instead of using outside money managers and to hire additional people to oversee the management by outsiders. In her letter describing...

There is the dread of leaving the house that morning. People might stare, or worse, yell insults. Prayers are more intense, visits with family longer. Mosques become a refuge. Eight years after 9/11, many U.S. Muslims still struggle through the anniversary of the attacks. Yes, the sting has lessened. For the younger generation of Muslims, the tragedy can even seem like a distant memory. "Time marches on," said Souha Azmeh Al-Samkari, a 22-year-old student at the University of Dayton in Ohio. Yet, many American Muslims say Sept. 11 will never be routine, no matter how many anniversaries have passed.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The coalition of pro-life groups that launched the Stop the Abortion Mandate is back with a renewed campaign, Void The Abortion Mandate. Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie told national Democrats on Thursday that anti-tax tea party participants and those who question President Obama's citizenship are "fools" that get too much media attention. Richie said the president's critics are riding a tidal wave of anti-government sentiment. He said fielding strong candidates and winning local and statewide elections next November is the best way to silence the president's most outspoken critics. "We will no longer have these fools who call themselves teabaggers and birthers and others out there garnering the press," he said. "Instead, we will have people saying, our government does work...

NOTE: Expanded/revised since originally posted. See updated material in blue below. Continued from Part 1 | Part 2 Teaching of the Twelve icon "First Simon, who is called Peter." With these words St. Matthew begins his enumeration of the Twelve, emphasizing the primacy of Simon Peter among the Twelve (Matt 10:2ff). A similar prominence is given to Peter in every enumeration of the Twelve, where Peter is always listed first, followed by the next most prominent disciples, John and James, with Judas Iscariot always in the last position (cf. Mark 3:16ff, Luke 6:14ff, Acts 1:13ff). The word "first," protos, is...
