An Israel Navy (IN) Dolphin-class (Type 800) attack submarine has crossed the Suez Canal for the first time and conducted manoeuvres in the Red Sea that are widely perceived to be another signal to Iran about Israeli intentions. The IN has until now been reluctant to send the nuclear-capable submarines into the Red Sea, since in passing through the shallow Suez Canal they are exposed to the possibility of attacks from shore. A defence source told Jane's on 6 July that the manoeuvres, which began in mid-June, involved a drill in the Red Sea by the Leviathan , which returned...

Chico 4th July Tea Partyby OneVike It was a beautiful day for a Tea Party and when I showed up, a bit late I might add. Jack Lee had just finished giving a pep talk to the many that showed up at the Elks lodge for the vehicle procession to Bidwell Park. As I walked around chatting with those involved I was impressed with the variety of people who showed up. There were bankers, businessmen, bikers and children all ready and eager to show the people of Chico they were fed up with the current situation in Washington and California....

When it comes to climate change legislation, Senate Democratic leaders find themselves in a similar spot to where their House counterparts stood a few months ago: pledging passage of a comprehensive bill without a clear path on how to get there. Majority Leader Harry Reid yesterday insisted that he wanted to get a sweeping energy and global warming measure onto the Senate floor between mid-September and early October. But the Nevada Democrat and his lieutenants were less specific when it came to defining their strategy for crossing the all-important 60-vote threshold needed to defeat an expected Republican filibuster.

CQ Politics picks up on the unions’ vehement opposition to taxing health benefits, a proposal that has been floated by members of Congress working on healthcare. It was the unions after all who attacked Sen. John McCain in the 2008 presidential campaign, drumming up support based on claims that he wanted to tax their health benefits. Now unions are worried that this may come to fruition with the President they elected and are starting to experience some buyer’s remorse: Michael Wilson, international vice president of the 1.3-million-member United Food and Commercial Workers, said union leaders told workers that 2008 GOP...

Climbing the stairs, housework, walking and even washing were made easier if elderly people worked out two or three times a week, researchers found. People lose muscle as they age, which can make daily chores more difficult. But working out by using small weights or elastic bands can help to rebuild these muscles, a review of the available evidence shows, while the risks of developing an injury are low for older people. Chiung-ju Liu of the Department of Occupational Therapy at Indiana University, who carried out the study, said: "Older adults seem to benefit from this type of exercise even...

Leading Republicans on Capitol Hill see Sarah Palin’s bombshell announcement last week that she’ll resign as Alaska governor as a potential win-win for her and their party. Their thinking: As a private citizen, she’ll be free to raise big bucks for 2010 candidates and at the same time restore her credibility and stature within the bruised party. The reasoning goes against the grain of the current political conventional wisdom. Palin’s relationship with the Washington GOP has been chilly ever since she vaulted into national prominence as the running mate for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) — who told POLITICO Tuesday that...

Senior Palestinian Authority clerics are still teaching Arabs that Jews are evil, that Jerusalem has no Jewish sites and that Jesus was a “Palestinian” and not a Jew. The incitement violates the American Roadmap, as noted succinctly by the Obama administration while it campaigns against Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. In a recent interview on PA television, the Authority’s chief religious justice, Tayseer Tamimi, taught Arab residents that the Koran states that Jews have been evil throughout their history, that Jerusalem has no Jewish holy sites and that the Israeli government is trying to destroy the foundations of the...

We have to get back to the America that grew into the greatest country in history. This means electing people who love and respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as they are written. We conservatives must search for new leaders; candidates who would step forward and say: “Give me a pen and I’ll sign right there under John Hancock!” Today both of these sacred American documents are under ferocious assault from a Marxist cabal bent on destroying them and rewriting every line. The Marxists are clear about what they want. Conservatives have to be equally clear about our...
