These words are a quotation of the words that the priest says in the Mass, at the consecration of the...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The Homeland Security Department is appealing a judge's ruling against its proposal to force employers to fire workers whose names don't match their Social Security numbers, and promises to try to make the policy a law. A federal judge in San Francisco blocked the "no-match rule" in October, saying it would likely impose hardships on businesses and their workers. Employers would incur new costs to comply with the regulation that the government hasn't evaluated, and innocent workers unable to correct mistakes in their records in time would lose their jobs, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer wrote....

BEIJING (AP) - The communist government's leading newspaper called Saturday to "resolutely crush" Tibetan demonstrations against Chinese rule. The statement came as international criticism against the crackdown on Tibetan protesters swelled. A senior EU official said European countries should not rule out threatening China with an Olympic boycott if violence continues in Tibet. Republican presidential hopeful John McCain and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi also joined the growing chorus of critics. Fighting back against the criticism, Beijing has begun releasing tallies of statements of support from foreign governments and trying to get its version of events before the international...

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Allison Banks stands with friends on the street where her son Elleek Williams was shot and killed. "It was uptown-downtown," she said. "My son changed his life, you know, at the end of his life. Yes, he was a kid running the streets of Albany, and as we know, this is what goes on." But before he got the chance to pursue his new ambitions, including working with kids, Williams was gunned down on Sheridan Avenue. He was celebrating his 24th birthday. And just last week, the man charged with killing him, Dushan Wilson, was found not...

Known as the "Shameless" family among horrified neighbours, the McFaddens "boast" three generations of adults who are not working. All ten members of the clan share a council house and live off benefits amounting to around £32,000 a year. And very happy they are, too.

Fidelity to revealed truth and historic Christianity should trump unity in the debate surrounding schism within the Anglican Church. This contrasts sharply with the views of Rev. Paul Gibson, a liberal Anglican theologian who garnered attention for his essay recently on the Anglican Church of Canada website, in which he said schism is "not a catastrophic event" and is preferable to placating those who do not treaty "gays as equal" simply for the sake of unity. This statement neatly ignores the reality one can treat gays with dignity and respect without necessarily condoning their behaviour or defying clear Scriptural teachings...

With the Supreme Court opening this week the first extensive examination of the constitutional right to bear arms in nearly 70 years, now seems a pretty good time to ask a question that’s been perplexing me for nearly as long: Why is that American Jews are so overwhelmingly anti-gun? I’ve been stumped by this communal aversion to firearms ever since I was a 6 year old, back in 1947. While flipping through old Life magazines one day in my grandparents’ living room in the Bronx, I came across photographs taken at the liberation of concentration camps. I saw the pictures...

China says using Dalai to reach ulterior motive doomed to fail China said Friday that near 100 countries had already demonstrated their support for China's action in the Tibet riot, noting that attempts of "using Dalai to reach ulterior motive" were doomed to fail. The governments of almost 100 countries had conveyed to China or demonstrated in public their support for China's action to safeguard the national sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability in Tibet and condemned the violence and those who masterminded the crimes, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a written statement, "It is a clear proof that...

During the final 10 minutes of many Rangers home games, the spotlights focus on Section 407 as Larry Goodman, a longtime season-ticket holder, pumps up the crowd with a goofy dance. Kevin Jennings said he stopped attending Rangers games for a month because of homophobic epithets shouted at players. As Goodman’s routine is broadcast on the giant monitors above the ice, a familiar chant picks up momentum. “Ho-mo Lar-ry!” the crowd shouts. “Ho-mo Lar-ry!” The chant is one example of what several gay hockey fans describe as a toxic atmosphere during Rangers games and that Madison Square Garden, which owns...

All along Clinton’s campaign trail in Terre Haute, it was hard to find anyone who was buying her negative national image – certainly not Jackie Bishop, who joined a crowd of at least 1,000 in the parking lot behind the Saratoga with hopes of grabbing just a glimpse of the woman who wants to be commander in chief. Sporting a homemade sign that proclaimed, “I GOT A CRUSH ON HILLARY,” Bishop said she had taken the day off from her job as a cashier at Wal-Mart to come downtown. Her sign featured 11 photos of Clinton. When Hillary asked the...

Perhaps the most apt manner to describe multiculturalism as an ideology and government policy in western liberal democracies would be what the incomparable English writer, journalist and non-conformist, Malcolm Muggeridge, wrote in his 1970 essay, The Great Liberal Death Wish. Perhaps also no contemporary of Muggeridge (1903-90), nor anyone after him, made as incisive a dissection of the deepening liberal malaise in the 20th century as he provided. He also exposed apologists of liberalism and their untiring efforts to discredit and dissolve the West as a uniquely gifted civilization. In every culture there are to be found some dissidents or...

China defies international calls for Tibet talks By David Eimer in Beijing Last Updated: 3:45pm GMT 22/03/2008 China has defied international calls for it to hold talks with the Dalai Lama and pledged to intensify its brutal crackdown on Tibetan protests against its rule. Nancy Pelosi challenges world over Tibet Alice Thomson: Gordon Brown must back Tibet's freedom fight An editorial in People’s Daily, the mouthpiece of the ruling Communist Party which is often used to announce state policy, promised to "resolutely crush the conspiracy of sabotage and smash Tibet independence forces." "Torn Between Two Lovers" was an absolutely wretched pop song that rose to the top of the charts in 1976-77. You couldn't punch a button on the car radio with being subjected to the rotten piece of garbage. The artist, Mary MacGregor, must not have been too crazy about it either, because she sang the song sounding like she would have rather been anywhere but in the studio recording it. Because it was co-written by bigtime liberal Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul , and Mary fame), I offer no apologies for my parody of it. On the contrary, "Torn Between...

Just saying: Seems more and more, like there's not a whole lot of behavioral difference between those on one side of the aisle who see everything through the prism of hating Bush,... And those on one side of the aisle who see everything through the prism of hating John McCain. Please. Stop attacking the Republican.
