Congressman Nadler has criticised the proposal to publish itne Ten Commandments in schools, asking which version should be used. There are, of course, differences of language, but not content, between the Jewish version in the Pentatuch, the Protestant version in the King James Bible, and the Catholic version. Since Cong. Nadler is a staunch supporter of Bill (Moses) Clinton, and since Clinton has rewritten the Ten Commandments by his conduct, I have taken the liberty of rewriting them in language suitable for teenagers. This should be acceptable to the Honorable Jerrold Nadler, Member of Congress: The Democrat Ten Commandments I. ...

June 24, 1999 The Fed Must Fight Inflation, Not Growth By Wayne D. Angell, a former governor of the Federal Reserve. He is chief economist at Bear Stearns. In testimony before Congress's Joint Economic Committee last week, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan hinted that the Fed is likely to raise the federal funds rate to 5% when it meets next Wednesday. As he has done before, Mr. Greenspan made clear that his chief concern was keeping inflation down: "Monetary policy is best primarily focused on stability of the general level of prices." Mr. Greenspan is certainly right to raise ...

Will everyone please now lay off Arkansas? Having done everything he could to ruin his native state's good name, President Clinton can't wait to be from somewhere else. Anywhere else. He says he and Hillary will live in New York whether she runs for the U.S. Senate or not, and he expects to change his voter registration so he can vote for her. This lifts an enormous burden from the backs of 2.5 million Arkansans, a lot of whom were giddy with anticipation seven years ago, exuberantly expectant about what a native son in the White House would do ...

Barr backs Forbes Rep. Bob Barr, Georgia Republican, is supporting Steve Forbes' presidential campaign, joining the magazine publisher's effort to attract social conservatives. Mr. Barr said Monday that he is endorsing Mr. Forbes because he is an articulate conservative who "addresses the issues." "He doesn't evade them," Mr. Barr said. He said he would take an active role in Mr. Forbes' campaign, to the extent that his own congressional re-election campaign permits. He cited Mr. Forbes' stance against gun control and his detailed proposal to reform the Social Security system as reasons for his endorsement, the Cox News Service reports. ...

STATESBORO, Ga. - The essence of the military's recruiting problem is penciled in small, neat letters in Army Sgt. Matt Wickham's black book of prospects. "N.I." "Plan Col." That's shorthand for "not interested" and "plans college." He could add another: "$." When asked why the Army faces its biggest recruiting shortfall in 20 years or why the Air Force may miss its goal for the first time since 1979, the Pentagon has a standard reply: "It's the economy." Unemployment was at a 29-year low of 4.2% in May. Usually, what's good for the economy is bad for the military. ...

I attended a lecture by author David Icke. His latest book, The Biggest Secret, claims that the cataclysmic events of recent years have been orchestrated to mold public opinion and grab power. In a slide show presentation, he showed lists of cabinet members of each of that last 5 administrations, and their memberships in the Trilateral Commision, Bilderberg, and the Council on Foreign Relations...also naming the Bush family as one of the most, if not the most corrupt crime families in recent history. The Skull and Bones pedophilia charge surfaced again in that hushed auditorium, as listeners shuffled in their ...

Several government whistleblowers will testify today before a House committee that they were fired, demoted or harassed for reporting the "systematic pillaging" of U.S. military and nuclear secrets to their superiors and Congress. According to documents and advance testimony obtained by The Washington Times, the federal employees say the retaliation and harassment was directly linked to their internal criticism and testimony before Congress. The Government Reform Committee's hearing will focus on the retaliations at the Defense and Energy departments and how advocates of tighter security for technology are facing intimidation. "These witnesses have important information, and it is extremely troubling ...

Listen to conversation between Ideas editor Jim Bencivenga and author Tom Regan Definition of cyber warfare Technology's double-edged sword Electronic Pearl Harbor? For the past three generations of Americans, going to war meant images of Robert E. Lee on horseback, front page stories of a sharpshooting Sergeant York, newsreel footage of Marines storming Guadalcanal, Walter Cronkite interviewing American GIs in Vietnam, or CNN's live coverage of military operations during the Gulf War. But the wars of the future may not be so hands-on. Or so visible. Instead, they may be fought by "cyber-knights," young men and women who sit ...

Predictions of the impact of the Year 2000 computer glitch range from no problem to near-Armageddon. Here's our prediction: There will be problems, and the vast majority of them will be caused by government. First off, don't think we are heading for the hills with survival gear come Jan. 1, 2000. Americans will solve any problems that come along with their usual determination and ingenuity. But we are convinced that problems will occur. And the source of those problems will be the folks at city hall, the state capital and Washington. Not because they are intent on creating chaos ...

SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM TOKYO -- North Korea shelved talks with its southern neighbor on Wednesday and held all-day, closed-door talks with U.S. officials. The meetings, thought to focus on plans for a missile test and the North's nuclear program, were to continue today. U.S. special envoy Charles Kartman began talks with North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Gye Gwan. The U.S. side presented the preliminary findings of a U.S. inspection last month of a suspected North Korean nuclear weapons complex. Officials said Kartman was also prepared to discuss a potential groundbreaking review of Washington's policy toward Pyongyang that could ...

SACRAMENTO (AP) -- Proposed gun control measures now caught in congressional crossfire would make California's gun laws tougher, the state's top law enforcement official says. "There ought to be uniform national policies," Attorney General Bill Lockyer said Monday. "I'm afraid the laissez-faire attitude of gun control in other states contributes to the disrespect for California's gun control law. It's very constructive to have national standards." Despite a 280-147 defeat in the U.S. House last week, there is still hope House and Senate negotiators will include tougher gun control in a juvenile crime bill. California's gun control policy is anchored ...

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Physicians Insurers Association of America (PIAA) strongly urges Congress to pass medical malpractice reforms like those in HR 2242, the "Medical Malpractice Rx Act," sponsored by Reps. Jim Greenwood (R-Pa.) and Chris Shays (R-Conn.). Passage of H.R. 2242 will result in lower health care costs for consumers, increased availability of quality health care for more of the nation's growing uninsured population and a significant reduction in frivolous lawsuits. The House of Representatives has passed similar reforms six times before. PIAA President Lawrence E. Smarr said, "The time is right for medical liability ...

Legacy cleansing ------------------------------------------------------------------------ By Helle Bering THE WASHINGTON TIMES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A few weeks back, President Clinton received a rather astonishing accolade from "some presidential aides and friends" on the front page of The Washington Post. In terms that must have made Winston Churchill spin in his grave -- and the rest of us swallow hard -- the Kosovo campaign was described as Bill Clinton's "finest hour." Mr. Clinton, according to the article, has been nursing a lifelong sense of disappointment -- to the point of feeling "almost cheated" -- that "when it was his turn he didn't have a chance ...

US Runs Out of Words on Bombing AGENCIES in Washington US Defence Secretary William Cohen says he is not sure how America can persuade Beijing the bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade was accidental. "I am not sure how much more can be done to persuade the Chinese that this was, in fact, a serious mistake," said Mr Cohen. Last week, Beijing dismissed an explanation given by special envoy Thomas Pickering as unacceptable and unconvincing. Since the bombing, Sino-US relations have plummeted, with China suspending bilateral dialogue on military and human rights issues. Negotiations over China's entry to the ...

Star Jones, on Mr. Gore: "He's very neat and trim and clean and he looks like Superman. Which is a good thing." Meredith Vieira on Mr. Gore: "Neat, clean and trim can mean boring. . . . ...

Patrons Turn Out for Gun Show By Robert Sanchez Associated Press Writer Monday, June 21, 1999; 12:38 p.m. EDT LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Under a din of banjos and the hum of fluorescent lights, the chatter of bartering from a larger-than-expected crowd echoed through the region's biggest gun show. While Congress debates whether to impose more restrictions on who can buy a gun -- and when -- rebels and average Joes turned out for the weekend show. ``They want to make a stand,'' said Mike Jones, 36, who was carrying his 3-month-old daughter, Debbie. ``They think their rights ...
