“Mystery virus kills 160”
Hindustan Times ^ | August 25, 2008 | Pawan Dixit,
Posted on August 26, 2008 4:55:54 PM PDT by StACase
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Rural Kanpur is fighting its most frightening scourge a mystery disease that has left a long line of bodies in its trail and doesnt seem anywhere finished.
What started from one village two weeks ago has now spread to 350 and has so far claimed 160 lives. Thousands more are bed-ridden. On an average, 15 to 20 people have been dying every day; Saturday saw the highest toll in a day: 24.
The districts health department is somewhat confused about the nature of the disease that has struck. At the beginning, the diagnosis was viral fever. Then doctors concluded that it was falciparum malaria. But after two weeks, they have ruled out both but still dont have an exact answer.
We really dont know what exactly it is; we are depending on the finding of a team of specialists from New Delhi, said Dr RC Agarwal, the districts new chief medical officer.
Specialists from the Infectious Disease and Surveillance Programme, New Delhi, have collected the blood samples of a few patients. The team will make its findings known in a few days.
But the fear of the unknown has resulted in a mass exodus of villagers.”
You’re welcome.
BTW, did you know a big bunch of communists are meeting in Denver this week?
Well, I heard a rumor -— (shhhh!!!) that a whole lot of interesting characters are in Denver.
That’s why I like to go out and pull weeds; it clears my mind.
:-)
Wear gloves.
Grinning...ditto that.

“S.A. Airport Officials Delay Plane Because of Suspicious Passenger”
Last Update: 8/26 5:16 pm
(News 4)
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A plane was detained at the San Antonio International Airport Tuesday because of what airport officials called a suspicious passenger.
The plane was heading for Washington, D.C. and set to depart at noon.
According to an airport spokesperson, a man set to board the plane was stopped at a security checkpoint Tuesday morning because he was carrying an MP3 player that was wrapped in tape and batteries and connected with wires to another electronic device.”
Although the MP3 player was cleared, United Airlines requested the plane be swept by security workers and search dogs.
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Airport officials said the MP3 player was not the only warning signal for the passenger. There were also other suspicious devices in the man’s luggage, and he had booked 3 one-way tickets from Dallas to San Antonio and then to Washington, D.C.”

“New Wave of Violence Against Christians in Orissa State”
By Michael Ireland
Chief Correspondent, ASSIST News Service
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “ORISSA STATE, EASTERN INDIA (ANS) — More than 600 churches have been demolished, 4,000 Christians forced to flee from their villages, and at least 25 killed as a result of violent persecution in the state of Orissa in eastern India.
Reports from the area say Vishwa Hindu Parishad religious leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his associates were murdered in the Kandhamal District of Orissa on Saturday, August 23.
Although a Maoist group claimed responsibility for the murders, supporters of the slain leader claim that Christians were behind the killings. Hindu fundamentalists have launched a series of attacks against Christians in retaliation.
Since Sunday, August 24, churches, schools and other institutions, prayer rooms, and homes of Christians have been ransacked, burnt and destroyed. Christians have been assaulted and reportedly at least twenty-five have been killed, some of them burnt alive or cut into pieces.”
