This is one the most fascinating short videos I have seen in awhile. I love dolphins, and as such I have always been fascinated by their behavior towards humans. Yet, when I ran across this video, I found myself watching it over and over again. Knowing how it would end up, but wishing for a different outcome. Yet dolphins are but big fish, and they must eat. Someone will inevitably reply to me, "Hey it's a mammal." Well I know that, and the carnivores one's like to eat smaller animals, regardless of the category we put them in.Normally when I...

Friday evening the largest Global Warming snow ever hit the Northeast. The storm had been predicted by Al Gore and other patients for years. Scientists had first thought the snow was the ordinary H2O type of snow that has fallen for years. However, closer investigation indicated that the snow was not regular snow but solidified carbon dioxide, (aka dry ice). Drs. Mann, Jones and Hansen speculated that the carbon dioxide had built up quickly because the coal fired electric generator plants had been working at full capacity because of the recent Artic cold spell. What triggered the consolidation and solidification...

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is asking those affected by Snowstorm Nemo to check on their neighbors and follow the direction of local officials as the Northeast corridor begins to dig out from under the massive blizzard. "Everyone has a role to play in the response to this winter storm," said FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate in a statement released Saturday morning. "Follow the direction of your state, local and tribal officials, and if you are told to stay off the roads, stay home, and when it is safe, check on your neighbors or friends nearby who may need assistance or...

FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. — Lorna Jones decided to brave the blizzard on Friday, venturing onto the Long Island Expressway as the snow began piling up. So did many others here in Suffolk County. They all came to regret it. “It’s terrible. It’s cold. I don’t know how long I’m going to be here,” said Ms. Jones, 62, a nurse who stalled near the town of Brookhaven, less than a mile from her destination. “Are there any plans to help us?” She said she had slept fitfully in her car, with no food or water, and only a bottle of Listerine next...

Blizzard Nemo is bearing down on the Northeast- hence the term nor’easter to describe it- so prepare for the folks at Fashion Week, now being held in New York City, to be out in force battling the storm. “The organizers of New York's Fashion Week,” reports the CSMonitor, “a closely watched series of fashion shows held under a big tent – said they will have extra crews to help with snow removal and will turn up the heat and add an extra layer to the venue.” We can only hope that they wear furs. Because we’ll need blizzards of hilarity...

A massive snowstorm packing hurricane-force winds has knocked out power to 400,000 customers in Massachusetts and has shuttered a nuclear power plant. By early Saturday, NStar had reported more than 240,000 customers without power and National Grid had 165,000. Most of the outages are in southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod, where wet heavy snow and winds gusting over 75 mph have been reported. One of the outages was the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, which shut down after losing off-site power. Authorities say there's no threat to public safety. State officials have said about 2,000 utility crews are prepared...

The high winds from the storm will drive a damaging storm surge of 2 - 4' along the coast of Eastern Massachusetts Friday night and Saturday morning. High tide Friday night will occur between 9:30 - 10 pm EST, and minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected along east and north-facing shores, when the storm surge of 2 - 3' rides in on top of the tide. Battering waves of 8 -17' will hit the coast south of Boston in Cape Cod Bay, causing severe beach erosion. Of greater concern is the flooding that will occur during the Saturday morning...

Here we go with another freak out about a winter storm. From naming it like a hurricane to generate more angst, to the continuing reminders that it "COULD" be a top ten storm in all time history, the weather guessers are doing the hype dance. Granted, this one looks particularly nasty, but most sane people will grab some extra milk and get home early Friday before the main bands hit. Take cover NE FReepers and keep us updated on how it's coming along. Post lots of pics from your yards and neighborhoods so we can all OOOOH and AHHHH...

Reporting from Tumaco, Colombia -- Squat, bull-necked and sullen-looking, Enrique Portocarrero hardly seems a dashing character out of a Jules Verne science fiction novel. But law enforcement officers here have dubbed him "Captain Nemo," after the dark genius of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."

Pentagon Makes Fighting Extremism Top Priority Seven years after the Sept. 11 attacks, the Pentagon on Thursday officially named "the long war" against global extremism as its top priority and pledged to avert any conventional military threat from China or Russia through dialogue. The Defense Department, in a new national defense strategy, also emphasized the need to subordinate military operations to "soft power" initiatives to undermine Islamist militancy by promoting economic, political and social development in vulnerable corners of the world. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he hoped the change would help establish permanent institutional support for counterinsurgency skills...

I am curious why none of the media covers the most important aspect of the Malvo shootings. If you look at Newspapers on the dates when the shootings are underway you discover something I find quite interesting. The shootings begin to dominate the news the day before the debate on the Iraq war starts and they catch them the day after the declaration of war??? If you ask most people "do you remember the debate about starting the second Iraq war", they will all answer "yes of course". But if you followup with the question "name one point in the...

I recently received a reply to a post that stated: "This should be beneath a "freeper". Sad." So I asked.. what is it that makes a FReeper? My reply (and I will admit was tasteless) was also questioning. It stirred controversy and was removed? Why Moderators? Can you not tell me? Did it not meet with your "FReeper" mentality? According to all posted guidelines it should be listed but no, you chose to delete it. Yes.. I'm the first one IBTZ, I'm sure you'll nick me for speaking up..

Many argue that communism will never be possible because of "human nature". The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. • This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...

NEWARK, N.J. -- A scuba-diving dentist says Disney and Pixar Animation Studios stole the idea for the hit film "Finding Nemo" from him. In a lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court in Newark, Dennis G. Sternberg, 56, of Allenhurst, said he used experiences as a diver to create an underwater adventure story for children in 1991. He called his story "Peanut Butter the Jelly Fish." He claims he submitted an illustrated manuscript to Disney and talked on the phone about his story with a writer from Pixar. (The two companies have a distribution partnership.) A Disney vice president...

(CNSNews.com) - Disney has agreed to let animal "rights" activists use images from its animated family film "Finding Nemo" to encourage children not to eat fish. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has obtained permission to use stills from the Disney/Pixar movie - which has taken in over $337 million at the box office - in its campaign to promote vegetarianism to youngsters. A "pro-fish" PETA spokesman told Ananova that the organization plans to use characters from the film in posters, leaflets and other materials. "We were delighted to see our tagline, 'Fish are friends not food,' in...
